Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in | w/o Aug 6th

  • Hi all, joining in over here as of today!!  Can you please add me to the list :) My EDD is 2/4/19.

How far along? 14 weeks today!

    Appts this coming week? None.

How're you feeling this week? Actually feeling a lot better than I previously was.  I do have sore hips today which seems odd since I haven't done anything to warrant that, but I also get a lot of RLP lately so maybe things are just really stretching!

Rants/Raves: None (for now).  Except I got a passion tea lemonade from starbucks this morning and drank half before I decided to google it and discover you're not supposed to drink passion tea during pregnancy.  So now it's sitting on my desk staring at me.  After all the spotting I had in T1 I'm too freaked out to do anything to cause more so I know I'm not going to be able to finish it which just makes me sad.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby? Yes... 2 dogs.  We have a 6 year old smooth vizsla and a 1 year old wire haired vizsla (why did we do that to ourselves?).  We have a friend that's brought their baby over and the 6 year old just wants to lick it to death (I don't remember her doing that with my 3 yo but maybe I just got used to it?) and the 1 yr old I don't trust enough to let get close enough.  Should be interesting!

  • Welcome to 2nd tri, @mayflower513. Also, I can't believe y'all have 2 vizslas, one would be plenty for me!

    How far along? 26+1

    Appts this coming week? None

How're you feeling this week? Miserable. My while body aches like I have the flu, but I'm not sick. I'm really crampy as well. I well prolly call my dr just to let them know since all my issues need to be reported.

Rants/Raves: Rave: Ds has been really good lately and I'm so thankful. He's still a very opinionated 2 year old, but he's been really good at playing on his own, eyc. Which is lovely since I feel like death.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby? We have a 4 year old dobie. She is wonderful. She was great with ds and I know she will be just as great with our new babe.

Thank you @wildrainbow!  I can't believe it either, we are crazy!
I hope you feel better!  I wonder what could have you feeling so poorly.

  • Welcome @mayflower513! Congrats on 2nd trimester! I didn't know we weren't supposed to have passion fruit during pregnancy -thanks for sharing, although it sucks that you won't be able to finish your drink :disappointed: What made you google it?!

@wildrainbow I'm sorry you're not feeling well! I hope things ease up soon and get more comfortable for you.

How far along? 23 weeks 2 days!

Appts this coming week? Nothing this week. I had a regular check-up on Friday and mostly everything was good. Heard baby bean's HB (which isn't as fun as it used to be since I have the doppler at home and listen most days anyways!). The only real concern was that I put on 8 lbs. since my last visit, but 4 of those were just from last week! The NP said we'll keep an eye on it for the next 2 weeks or so since rapid weight gain could be a sign of preeclampsia.  But, in retrospect, it was a pretty bad eating and exercising week for me and I feel like baby (or my bump, at least) had a pretty substantial growth spurt last week. So we'll see. I'm not too concerned for my overall weight gain yet, b/c it's only been 11 lbs. so far. Just hoping last week was a fluke and I can keep everything at bay!

How're you feeling this week? Definitely having several braxton hicks contractions each day. I feel like my calves are always on the verge of tightening into a bad cramp. Other than that, ok. Energy is good and still no real swelling.

Rants/Raves: I bought these maternity lounge pants from Amazon and they are so comfortable! I was tired of wearing my regular sweats and such and having to roll them down - these are just so much better! I plan to live in them during the fall and will definitely be taking them to the hospital with me!

GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby? We have a 9-year old shih-tzu poodle. He's definitely spoiled right now and very protective of DH! I think he'll be very jealous of DH holding the baby and such, but other than that he should be fine. He's very good with my 2 nephews, (3 and 5), so I don't think there will be any problems.

@mag1cbeli3ver thank you!  I googled it because I know some herbal teas are not OK (like chamomile), and sure enough hibiscus isn't good because it can do things to uterine lining/cause bleeding.  I read it's mostly during first tri to really avoid but, no thanks, especially because I'm barely out of first tri!

That's scary to even think about Pre-E.  I had a week or 2 with big weight jumps during my first pregnancy and it was just a growth spurt like you said.  I actually had high BP at like 35/36 weeks during my that pregnancy as well and it ended up going back down that day, and it didn't come back until I went in for delivery (which was actually fine with me because they'd have sent me home without it).  11 lbs isn't bad, so we will go with growth spurt!

    Hello ladies!

@mayflower513 welcome! I drink chamomile tea all the time, and from my studies (herbalist) in moderation it's totally fine. You just want to stay away from the ones that cause uterine contractions or have abortification effects.

@mag1cbeli3ver my midwife said they are not concerned about numbers at all, everybody and every pregnancy progresses differently. As you know so far I gained 24 pounds, so if that's not a concern you probably completely ok, your body must be catching up :)

    How far along? 21w5d

    Appts this coming week? none

How're you feeling this week? Same, miserable nights from pain all around: both sides and back. I seriously dont want the night time to come bc I dont know how to sleep. Nothing I tried seems helping. :(

    Rants/Raves:

GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby? No pets.
  • @ilky thank you - and good to know!  I think hibiscus can cause uterine contractions, I am sure though that starbucks tea doesn't have all that much of it, especially when mixed with lemonade!

  • @mayflower513 Welcome!

@mag1cbeli3ver I also felt like I’d maybe two pounds, then another 6-8 rather quickly - but I think I blame our recent restaurant week (not great to be off diet since my a1c was high like 3 weeks in to this pregnancy and I just *barely* squeaked by my 1-hr glucose test at 12 weeks by like 2 points - next test is at the end of the month).  But I guess the weight gain isn’t necessarily linear?  At my last appointment my doc mentioned I didn’t want to be up more than 15 lbs at 28 weeks - I was like, if I’m up 10-ish, that doesn’t leave a whole lot to go!  One of my girlfriends is a couple of weeks ahead of me and hasn’t gained any weight at all - her doc has revised her weight gain goal for her whole pregnancy to 15 lbs (and there wasn’t all that much to her to begin with).

Good to know about the rapid weight gain being a pre-e thing - I also have chronic hypertension (usually managed with meds), but I’ll definitely look out for that as well.

    How far along?

    20w3d

    Appts this coming week?

    Nope

    How're you feeling this week?

My back’s started bothering me :(. I have back issues anyway (herniated C5/6 and L3-5), but had hoped doing prenatal mat Pilates exercises might have helped more.   Otherwise, I could use more sleep but really can’t complain.

    Rants/Raves:

Departing for our babymoon this Friday!  It’s going to be so hot and humid, but it will be nice to get away.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby?

We rescued a now 2 year-old dobie mix (most popular guess is Rhodie for the other half, but her color makes vizsla a possibility) last year and she’s super sweet.  She was already housebroken and good with kids - no clue why her previous owner surrendered her or how she spent 3 months at the dobie rescue. She does tend to get jealous of...well anything else to which DH gives attention (I was weary of getting a female dog because I suspected she’d try to replace me - and DH might let her), but we’re super excited for her to be a big sister.

Appts this coming week? Appointment on Thursday and hoping I can finally come off of Pelvic Rest since the spotting has completely stopped and been stopped for about a week now
How you're feeling this week? I feel overall pretty well. I get tired more quickly and I am started to get back leg and feet cramps in the middle of the night which are no fun but other than that feeling good!
Rants/Raves: I really need to find more maternity stuff that I think will stretch through this twin pregnancy with me. It has been a challenge so far since I hope not to spend a ton of money.
GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby? We have one dog and so far he has done fine with DD so I am hoping when the twins get here it will be similar.

  • @artemis618 Baby moon! How exciting! I hope you have a great time - where are you headed?

@Ilky I've been having problems sleeping, too. The other night I actually tried sleeping with my back propped up against the headboard (with my mat pillow and a couple others for support). It was more comfortable than the side sleeping, but I don't know if it qualifies as sleeping on my back, which I know isn't good for baby anymore. But I guess it's sort of like sleeping upright in a chair or on a couch or something, so maybe it's worth trying?

@Joslynj11 GL with your appointment on Thursday! Hope you get some good news about the pelvic rest. And I feel your pain with maternity clothes. I really need to break down and get some stuff for work since I go back to full-time next week, I just don't wanna spend all the $$$$!

@mag1cbeli3ver one night I tried what you described and it was fine. My doctors and midwife say dont get stuck on side sleeping thing, sleep whichever way you are comfortable at the end your sleeping is more important not sleeping and being miserable. So, with that in mind I tried exploring sleeping on my back (especially tilted sideways) and it was working for a few nights, now even that hurts.  :s I'm checking out rockers/recliners and if I can find something good and decent priced I'll buy one and see if that helps better.
  • @mag1cbeli3ver We’re headed to Montreal - neither DH nor I has been there before.  I’m tempted to as the Canadian ladies if it’s okay to eat Poutine...

@Ilky Since I shared my favorite girl name with DH last Thursday morning when he found our her gender, he’s admitted to thinking of her as “Teagan” (though he’s undecided about how he feels about the alliteration).  Striking early may have helped :p

Hi everyone! I am joining you this week. Please add me to the list. My due date is 2/4, but it will be a planned c-section about 2 weeks before. It's a boy. I currently have an almost 19 month old son. He is a super happy kid, but the first couple weeks were pretty difficult. He was not a problem and was pretty easy to figure out, luckily.  Now that I have some experience, I'm not as nervous about the newborn, but I'm nervous about managing a toddler while I have restrictions after the c-section. He's a good natured kid, but also very curious and has a mind of his own. I am the bad guy who has to get him when he's not cooperating. When DH shows up, DS knows it's playtime.

How far along? 14 weeks and 3 days
Appts this coming week? It was last week
How're you feeling this week? I'm okay so far  I've started an exercise routine  so it's giving me a little energy
Rants/Raves: not too many complaints. My life is really focused on my son and trying to get other things done before the school year starts (I'm a teacher) and things I want to get done and figure out to prepare for the baby  We keep have construction going on in one of the bathrooms  so I'm trying to work around the mess from that.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? How do you think they'll be with baby
We don't have any, but my inlaws have a dog 2 weeks younger than my toddler but 3 times bigger  The dog is crazy with everyone except my son. DS loves dogs and is still learning how to be gentle, so the poor dog puts up with being poked and handles it well. I'm not too worried about the dog being with the baby. The dog is kept in the kitchen when we are there, but I think he'll be okay with our kids once they can be in the same room
  • Welcome @LynnNJ!  I’m due 2/4 too!  Somehow I’m 14+2 today though and you had 14+3 yesterday, I’m confused how we can have the same due date but different number of “weeks/days along”.  Is that what you’re measuring?

Was your first c-section planned?  I have a friend that had one after laboring with her first son and had a rough recovery and is having a much easier time this time around since it was planned.  There won’t be getting around chasing a toddler around, but will you have H or someone home for a little while after to help while you recover?

  • Welcome @LynnNJ! I will be having a c section as well. I have a 2 yo ds who has one speed: go. My DH is taking off for 2 weeks after the baby is born to wrangle ds and help me. I've heard that recovery 2nd time around is much easier, so hopefully we have that going for us.
  • @LynnNJ Congratulations on reaching the 2nd trimester! I teach as well and I've bene trying to get as much done as possible before the semester starts in a few weeks because I know I just won't have the time or energy! How fun that your son will have a little brother to play with and grow up with!

  • @Joslynj11 ugh I was just wondering yesterday if I’ll ever be off pelvic rest.  My SCH was gone at my 11 and 12 week ultrasounds, and I haven’t had any spotting at all since July 29th and that was so minor and brown, it’s been since 7/20 that I had any significant spotting... but I’m so paranoid to hurt anything that even if I get cleared I may not have sex until this baby comes out!  Poor H... it’s already been 4.5 months!!

  • Mayflower513 The last one was a planned c-section I needed a myomectomy in 2015 in order to get pregnant, so I knew all along it would be a c-section.
I honestly it a lot during my recovery and I didn't think much about my pain. It just added to the exhaustion. I hope my experience with baby 1 helps me this time around

Wildflower you'll have to let me know how it goes and give me tips. Because my husband did not take off last time I don't expect him to this time either. I am getting a mother's helper for the evenings when my son is home and I will manage the baby on my own most of the time.

@mag1cbeli3ver yay for feeling the kick! It's an amazing and weird feeling. It makes you really realize that your body is growing another human being lol. I dont have anterior placenta but it's been a week or so that I feel him. Mine usually pushes against my belly so you can definitely see and feel something bulging and is super hard. My hubby just felt it two days ago and he seemed a little creeped out lol.
  •  @mayflower513
I was on pelvic rest for 1st tri and first week or two of 2nd tri due to intermittent light spotting....but after that, I really was just so anxious about sex causing bleeding again (due to cervix irritation) and freaking me out that I think we did the deed only a handful of times during my pregnancy. And honestly, I really wasn't that interested either :p
