@echo-charlietango nope, just thinks I'm over indulging I guess. I was told to decrease my portion size and focus on protein. I will do the GD screen in about 4 weeks.
@hens_hoes I’m sorry you were upset after your appointment. Weight is such a sensitive topic. As long as you and baby are healthy, the number on the scale shouldn’t matter!
@Jens_Hoes glad baby is doing well but so sorry you are getting grief about weight, especially when you’re making an effort not to agonize about it. Can you talk to your doctor about how upsetting the conversation was, and how you’re trying so hard to have a healthy approach to weight gain in pregnancy? I think that feedback is really important, and maybe can help shape a more constructive conversation next time?
Anyway, hugs & solidarity. ❤️ Weight and pregnancy is so complicated.
@Jens_Hoes Oh, I'm so sorry. I find that reaction to weight during pregnancy *really* varies by doctor. My OB is super chill about it, but my primary physician is incredibly strict and freaks out at the drop of a hat. I wouldn't take it too much to heart. Obviously, listen to your doctor, but don't beat yourself up. Pregnancy is not like normal life! I always find that my weight jumps up at a certain point in pregnancy, even if my diet is relatively the same. Last time I had a 12 pound jump in one month! Then it stabilized after that, but I swear I wasn't even doing much differently during that month! Anyway, hugs, I know weight can be such a sensitive topic and I'm sorry you were made to feel bad.
Thank you all for the support. I’m on mobile now so hard to tag, but the way in which she talked to me about it wasn’t bad. She wasn’t mean and told me that they’ve seen worse and to just keep an eye on it. Seeing the number on the scale was scary and jarring enough, probably because I wasn’t expecting it. I have been relatively sedentary the last year and a half so I’m going to try to walk on my lunch break a few days a week. @maureenmce that’s basically what it was, 11 lbs in 4 weeks. Im going to try to be more active and not have that second cookie lol and see what happens at my next visit in four weeks
@hkom I haven't had any bills yet, either. We have pretty good insurance, so I'm not too worried about the final cost, but it's definitely strange.
@Jens_Hoes Sorry they made you feel poorly about your weight gain. I agree with PP; your body is doing something amazing, and I hope you don't beat yourself up too hard about it. Hugs.
Had a regular appt yesterday at 23w exactly. They gave me the glucose drink to bring home for next visit in 4 weeks. Read the instructions and I don't have to fast for this one. So excited!! Lol. Measuring right on track, got a dr note for a prenatal massage, heartbeat was 140, and I'm doing good.
I had a good checkup today. Everything from my a/s last week was good and on schedule. The cramping and contractions I had on Monday night she said hopefully were just dehydration plus overexertion, but if it happens again she wants me to come in for another ultrasound to check my cervix. I thought I was drinking plenty of water, but it’s been really hot, so maybe not enough?
Fwiw, my OB thought the prolonged vibrating/buzzing sensation might been spasming of some of the abdominal muscles — which are getting stretched a lot at this stage when the bump starts to pop out more. That makes as much sense to me as anything (not that I really felt like there was any reputable medical info about it on the interwebz).
Had my 24 week check this morning. Baby sounds great, HB 150, and my blood pressure and urine were great. My weight, not so much. They had to counsel me about how much I've gained in the last four weeks which made me feel SUPER shitty. I cried all the way to work because I've been trying SO very hard to not stress about my weight this time around and then this happens.
It didn’t feel good my last appointment when I was told I gained quickly that month and to be careful. My brain understands, but I still feel defensive. Im pretty sure I’ll be counseled again my next appointment because I’ve gained probably more than I should (I’m still exercising though!). My next will be my 24 week appointment too. I have no advice, just commiserating with you.
@jens_hoes I charted my last pregnancy weight gain from going back in my chart history. I gained a lot last pregnancy and I'm trying not to this go around. There were multiple weeks where I gained that amount or more. I feel your pain. Hugs, friend. Pregnancy is hard.
@jen_hoes@Activebaby I met with my nutritionist yesterday and asked her about weight gain and how to make sure I was keeping on track week by week. She mentioned that she doesn't like to necessarily use ranges (even the 25-35 pound range that's usually given). She said that in her pregnancy she gained 41 pounds, but that the things she was doing were even more important than the weight gain. Basically, they're worried that if you gain too much weight, the baby will be too big. But she said that if you are eating healthy most of the time (like plenty of veggies, protein, healthy fats, and a moderate amount of good carbs - so not cheetos or candy like I was doing a few weeks ago lol), then even if you gain "more than recommended" the baby probably won't end up being too big. (Her kid was in the 8-9 pound range and came at 42 weeks.) Also, try to make sure you are drinking enough water and getting walks or other exercise in. But, try not to think too much about the weight! *hugs*
Both my babies were 7lb and I gained appropriate weight, but it’s still stressful. I didn’t gain (only lost) in first tri, but 2nd tri I am. I do need to be cognizant of my weight and I try to be, but I also feel like if I’m keeping active and staying strong, that things will be okay later that’s what I’m telling myself.
@katy0990 and @hkom, I haven't gotten a bill or estimate from my regular OB, just MFM. I actually asked about it at my OB appt on Wed. They said they don't do estimates since anything and everything can happen during L&D and the bill can vary drastically based on that. So basically, no clue what we're looking at. Only way I will get a bill ahead of time is if I switch OBs or switch insurances (which hopefully will happen if/when SO and I tie knot, preferably sooner than later).
@Jens_Hoes how was your BP? Sometimes dr can be concerned about rapid weight gain due to possibility of preeclampsia. If that's not a concern, just keep eating healthy, get in some more walking if possible, and don't stress about it. Your body is doing what it needs to. As long as baby is doing well and you're staying healthy, the numbers shouldn't matter that much.
@scaredunprepared I do not understand their reasoning because their bill is different from the hospital bill (at least for my OB). My bill from my OB will be the same regardless of what happens at delivery, but the hospital bill will vary significantly. Last time, I planned a vaginal birth, but ended up with an induction, c-section, and 5 night hospital stay. The bill from my OB was the same as what I had been quoted at 12 weeks, but the hospital bill was higher than the estimate I had been given when I called and asked about it ahead of time. My OB actually requires you to pay in full or develop a payment plan prior to 36 weeks, so they have to know in advance. Actually, come to think of it, they had to send an estimate to your insurance to receive preauthorization for all of your prenatal care. That’s so odd that they won’t just tell you. ETA: We did receive an additional bill from my OB after birth for my son’s circumcision, which wasn’t included in the original estimate, since that was billed for him and not me.
@katy0990 all I know is they won't give me anything until after delivery. I am dreading all these bills, as if having a newborn won't be stessfulI enough! I think a big part of all is my crap insurance, though. I'd probably be much happier and carefree if my insurance would pay what I thought they would pay.
