I posted this in the ticker change but it’s bragworthy so I’m posting it here. I finally got my office to change their parental leave policy so now everyone gets 12 weeks paid! Before it was based on how long you had been there, and since I’ve been there 2 yrs I was going to get 8. I know that’s still more than some get, and I recognize that my ability to get this changed has everything to do with the perfect set of circumstances (new law was going to compel this by 2021 anyway, my boss agreed with my and advocated with management repeatedly until they put it in their agenda and did something about it, etc.) Still, had I said or done nothing this wouldn’t have happened now. So I’m proud of speaking up and not being afraid to ask.

Jeff's approval for life insurance went through today! (I was approved a month or two ago.) We're so adult now.

@sliztee hopefully in 2 1/2 years. I have gone from 186k in debt to I am now down to 46k in 4 years. Would be lower if not for 4 babymoons, 6 IUIs and 2 IVF cycles...womp womp, lol. The payback rate will slow down with a kid, but we are hoping to have the rest of my debt gone in 2 1/2 years, and then I am gonna get it

That's so amazing, @kiwi2628! I love to hear when people make their debt a priority and absolutely crush it. What a relief it is to have the weight off your shoulders.

@kiwi2628 and (everyone else!) As someone who has worked in both life insurance and annuities I suggest that you might want to talk to a financial planner if you haven't already (make sure it's a financial planner and not just an insurance agent selling to sell).  And maybe bc of my work experience I'm super paranoid but having life insurance is so so important.  A planner can go over finances and submit applications for quotes to various companies to be reviewed by underwriting and give you an idea of what would be best with your debit to savings ratio.

@kiwi2628 Good good!!!  I'm totally jealous of your loan pay off too!  I'm going to be paying back my loans for what feels like forever, and I only did a four year degree!  you guys are crushing it!

I need to refinance my student loans... They seem crippling. I have 12 years left on them, but I can only make the minimum every month and they are insane.

@sliztee - Congratulations!  I did that in 1st Trimester, and it was such a huge relief to be done with it.  (I also don’t even want to think about what would have had happened to the premiums if I had waited and was still in the middle of the underwriting process in the last two weeks...)

@kiwi2628 - Congratulations on paying down such a huge chunk of your student debt!   Student loans are a nightmare, and what you have accomplished is incredible.

Finished packing for our move tomorrow! Today I went to the house to supervisor the lighting install to ensure the heights etc were correct. It's starting to look/ feel like a home!

The past couple of days I have been able to eat actual meals and more than one a day! This is huge since this pregnancy the HG and food aversions have been awful, and I have only gained about 10 lbs total so far.

@spartan4life thanks! It's a labor of blood, sweat and tears over the last 2 years of me designing, purchasing all the materials and managing the construction. So it's finally nice to see it come together! I'll post overall shots when it's finished completely.

+1 to life insurance being important. My H is a financial advisor so he deals a lot with life insurance. We both got small amount last year that would've covered us, and now that I'm pregnant we're both upping it. We've actually had a couple of friends/friends of friends husband's pass in accidents in the last couple of years (only in early 30s) and their life insurance policies/lack of life insurance was so so important. It's very adult, and scary to think about actually needing it, but man, if you do....

I'm so glad my company offers basic life insurance. I can up it if I want, but they pay 2x my salary. I also have a policy on DH and ADD (since he works in manufacturing) and a small policy on SS. I know that if I were to leave the company it'd be gone, but I don't plan on doing that any time soon.

DH and I both have life insurance through my work which is great. I also have a small policy from when I bought my first car and had my first apartment. It was a bundle deal that reduced my rates to have everything together and I have just always kept it. Also, DH's parents are insurance agents so he has several policies from life insurance to mutual funds that we don't even really know about, hopefully we're covered lol.

Big kudos re life insurance, student loans, and general financial planning. I find it takes so much effort to get started on that stuff.

Friday I passed my Nurse Aide state exam, which brings me one step closer to nursing school! Taking an eight week summer class (including a three week clinical rotation) plus stressing about this exam has not been easy while pregnant. I'm so relieved that it's over and I can enjoy the rest of the summer!!

Just spent 30 minutes altering my dress for my baby shower...that I need to leave for in 30 minutes...and it looks damn good now. So proud of myself, plus now my torso isn't swimming in excess fabric! 

I've been paying tailors money all this time to just sew a line down a dress to take the waist/torso in?!?! Gah.
