  • My sister (the one who is also pregnant) apparently has shingles. WTF? I thought that was something that old people got but she said it can happen to anyone who has had chicken pox, especially if you have a weakened immune system for some reason....like pregnancy. Apparently it's not contagious to anyone who has had chicken pox or the chicken pox vaccine, and it can't harm the baby, but there's not much they can really do about it. Just so weird!

  • @lifesabeach85 I had shingles when I was probably in middle school. It was fairly mild and I don’t remember it causing any issues or having to miss any school or anything, just annoying from it being itchy. Haven’t had a problem since, but that makes sense about it happening during pregnancy due to the weakened immune system.
  • @lifesabeach85 I got shingles when DS was about 5 months. We were not sleeping great (his sleep has sucked since the 4 month regression), I was super stressed at work, and DH was travelling a ton. I had a very minor case of the chicken pox when I was younger, so that could have been part of why I was so susceptible. It was on my neck and looked horrible. I so hope I never get it again.

  • +1 for sore hips, I swear I have to switch sides every 20 minutes all night long or my entire hip/leg throbs. Wish we had a recliner on the way.

@msb11182018 have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your lower legs/knees?  Earlier in 1st tri I had awful sore hips and would have to switch sides often.  I took a firm pillow and I put it between my lower legs (knee to ankle) to ensure I don't cross my ankles in my sleep and it's gotten drastically better since then.  Just a suggestion!  I've slept that way ever since figuring that out much to MHs annoyance.

    @smulrich16 ^^^same advise to you <3

  • @lifesabeach85 I had shingles when I was 24. It was, thankfully, very mild and only showed up on my thigh/hip. It was soon after my step-mom passed away and I was still incredibly stressed out. The worst part is that I was told it can come back multiple times throughout my lifetime >.<

@lifesabeach85 I had shingles when I was about 10.  All I remember is being very itchy and my back (where mine was concentrated) feeling like it was on fire.  And taking blue pills for it (they were anti-virals, I guess).

My aunt had it as an adult and had permanent nerve pain from it where the rash was (that can sometimes happen and be extremely painful).

You can get it more than once, too, since the virus is always dormant in your system once you've had chicken pox.

  • Wow I didn’t know shingles was so common! Makes me waaaaaay more appreciative that they have a vaccine now for chicken pox! And also way more scared that I’m gonna get it one day since I had chicken pox as a toddler.

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I do sleep with a pillow between my knees, which helps a bit, but it's always whatever hip that I'm laying on that gets super sore. That being said, I've had hip problems since I was 16, so extra hip pain during pregnancy does not surprise me. Thank God for an amazing chiropractor (who I get to see today)!

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I also sleep with a pillow between my legs, I have replaced it with a much firmer one which helps a bit but still have to turn over a lot which is even harder with a pillow lol. Thinking needing a new mattress is really the issue but that will have to wait.
  • @msb11182018 & @smulrich16 I had been sleeping with a pillow between my knees but really had to focus on placing it between my lower legs/not crossing my ankles for it to make the difference.  Again, maybe you both are already doing that, but that was the the biggest factor for me.  Hope it gets better!

  • @booksandcoffee Congrats on the new car! We also got a new one and it is way bigger than anything I have ever had. Don't worry! You will get used to it
  • Ds woke up at 5:30 and climbed in our bed. He was really good until 6 when he started asking me to get him a waffle and to watch Mickey. Kid didn't fall asleep til after 10. He's been fighting sleep hardcore. I'm already looking forward to nap time.
  • @highsteaks Thank you.  We all feel better after our nap, that's for sure!

I'm just feeling negligent for falling asleep without having the other one somewhere where I knew he wasn't able to potentially get into trouble.  He was limited to the living room and kitchen because of baby gates and everything is baby-proofed, so it wasn't the end of the world.

Just mom guilt things, I guess!

  • @mojiejo I get maybe feeling a tiny bit guilty but don't feel ashamed of yourself! You're doing twice the hard work with twins!
  • Poll: who here only suspected they might be pregnant when they became suddenly, violently, publicly sick? I think this is crazy movie stereotype of a woman suddenly vomiting, usually in public and then thinking huh, I wonder if I am pregnant. I don’t get MS so I don’t know, was this really anyone’s first clue?

(Just got back from seeing Mama Ma 2 for context)

  • @lifesabeach85 not me, but i was trying and a habitual poas-er. my ms was really bad both times, but didn’t start until week 7/8... i had already known for a month by then. but, i’ve never heard of vomiting before an expected period, and wouldn’t a missing regular period be the first clue?
  • @lifesabeach85 We were trying and therefore I was testing like a madwoman. So no ms as a clue. However one thing that tipped me off before a pregnancy test was one night while eating pizza (which I loooove), I suddenly felt repulsed by the (hardly chewed) bite in my mouth so I spit it out. Then a few minutes later decided I still wanted it so I picked it back up and ate it! Lol I knew then something was up.
  • @lifesabeach85 - the only sign (looking back) that I had that I was pregnant was extremely vivid dreams a few days before my BFP. I was charting (I have PCOS and rarely ovulate on my own, but still charted through all our IUIs and such) and my temp was still high 15dpo so I took a test. Earlier that cycle we went to CCRM for a bunch of tests/labs/etc to get ready for IVF in a couple months so even though we were still technically "trying" I was 99% sure the test would be negative. You would think for people who ovulate regularly they would notice they didn't get a period.

  • @lifesabeach85 - at the time, I didn’t think it was a sign necessarily, but I had a bloody nose pretty bad a couple days before I found out. I was also dead tired during the day. I didn’t get a positive test until my period was a week late though.
  • @lifesabeach85 Nope, no random vomiting for me either. I was charting, so when my temp rose on 10dpo instead of falling...I knew to test. It was faint, but it was there. I didn't have any other symptoms till a few weeks later

  • @msb11182018 I have a snoogle and it is the full body length. It keeps my knees and ankles in line. Seriously a game changer versus a normal pillow and I will be using it post pregnancy. It's amazing.

@lifesabeach85 I also had shingles when I was about 22. My sister would sing to me "all the shingle ladies" for the next couple of years after that! It was on my leg and just awful pain. I wasn't even under a lot of stress when I got it.
  • @lifesabeach85 My water broke before I went into labor, but it was not at all like the movies. Thankfully it happened while I was sleeping, so I woke up and realized something was off, but it only leaked a little bit while I was walking to the bathroom. It wasn't until I sat down on the toilet and it kept leaking out that I realized it was probably my water that broke. It wasn't a huge gush like a water balloon popping (for me at least).
