TTTC Checkin 7/10/2018

It's checkin time everybody...

Thank you so much @Bababatty for posting last week's checkin, despite going through such a rough time <3

I belong to several boards and this is by far the most supportive and positive one, even though we have every reason not to be. You are amazing women and I'm proud to be a part of this board.

How is everybody doing?

  • @funkykey so sorry to hear about your AMH level.  Sending so many good thoughts and prayers your way that this round is the one that works for you!

@Bababatty I completely get the self induced pressure.  DH would be the best Dad and it kills me that I haven't been able to give him that yet.  The one thing I have learned though throughout this process is we need to kinder to ourselves and give ourselves a little grace.  I have no idea what the guy from Yale is looking for but it was optional and I figured why the hell not?  It's just money and what's $500 at this point when I've spent thousands?

AFM- Still just waiting but I would love some input from you guys on what I should do about my immunologist appointment.  So I have the immunologist scheduled for the 24th and I had made this appointment way before I got looped in with the recurrent miscarriage specialist.  To make a long story short the specialist doesn't think I need to see the immunologist, so I am having second thoughts about going.  With that being said, the specialist is banking on there being something wonky with my uterus based on the initial conversation with her.  So essentially if she doesn't find anything wrong with the uterus we have no new plan so I am hesitant to cancel with the immunologist.  I would push the immunologist out but this would be the third time I've moved it on them.  What would you do??

  • @kristimh80 Yaaay!! Congratulations!! I really hope that stickiness is a positive sign of stickiness in ute! Good luck with the TWW and being PUPO!

@funkykey I am so sorry to hear about your AMH level. Seriously, that is such a blow and I just want to kick the universe for you. Like, enough already! How is it that when you think you’re tackling one thing, another issue pops up? Lots and lots and lots of hugs, my friend!!  <3 <3 <3

@Worldtravler0522 If it were me, I’d keep the immunologist appointment. It can’t hurt and maybe you’ll get something out of it. I don’t think it’s worth the risk of more delay to put it off if, God forbid, your other doc is wrong.

Your attitude about the Yale doc is the same as mine would have been (and, I used the “why the hell not” phrase when discussing acupuncture with my RE this morning, so that made me chuckle). It reminded me of when we went to pay for DH’s DNA frag test and the receptionist said apologetically that it would cost $1,000, and we laughed and said that at least it was less than $10,000. It’s shocking how “expensive” becomes relative in this whole process. I’m like, just take my credit card. Make it rain.  :D

@emmasemm OMG I am thrilled with your numbers from this ER! Clearly our well-wishes, spells, and a lot of hard work on your part paid off, so I’m sending it all back again to help those embies grow!!

@oklahomak There’s nothing like the TWW to drive you completely insane. FX for this one!

@mighty-mouse I’m so sorry about the timing relative to your twin. I can’t even imagine how hard that must be on so many levels. I’d have felt the same way—like this is definitely going to work because we’re twins. None of this is fair. *hugs*

AFM There’s a bunch I want to respond to from the last thread but i’ll Have to come back. In the meantime, I’m glad to hear that I am not the only one putting artificial pressure on myself. And for those lucky ones who don’t have any pressure, I’m jealous! I mean, it’s definitely in my nature to apply pressure where none need exist, lol. Keep up the good work of not adding any unnecessary anxiety!

We had our pre-op appointment with our RE today and my hysteroscopy is scheduled for July 31. They did some bloodwork and it looks like I O’d yesterday, which is nice because it means DH and I hit at least one day in my FW (I always hold out hope).

@GoldenKeys I completely agree—this is my favorite community. Everyone here is such a wonderful and supportive person. I’m really glad I found this group two(?)—can it be so long?!—years ago.

QOTW We Have a hunk basket in our closet and it’s got random balls of twine, at least one baseball, some ponchos, and God knows what else.

  • @Worldtravler0522 I second keeping your immunologist appointment! There's a lot of immune issues we have in the uterus itself that most doctors don't check for unless asked or it looks like there's an issue. NK cells can be high etc...and luckily there are things they can give you to help. I wish I had saw an immunologist before starting everything.

@Bababatty Hope your hysteroscopy goes well this month! I feel you on the anxiety, I'm usually all over the place because I need to control what's going on. This time around, I didn't give myself the chance and was committed to being relaxed and stress-free for once! It's been pretty nice not giving a crap for once :)

  • @kristimh80 that is so exciting. Good luck with the TWW, I hope it disappears quickly and becomes the 9 month wait.
@Worldtravler0522 I think seeing the immunologist is still a great idea. Even specialists have blind spots so seeing someone with a different medical background could lead to a new idea.
@Bababatty thanks for your kind words. That's great that you O'd this cycle and are in with a chance.
Afm I had a scan this morning and had a lovely big follicle so they triggered me! First time I have responded to the drugs normally so thrilled.
My junk draw is full of keys but I have no idea what any of them are for
    Bababattyemmasemm
  • @GoldenKeys thank you for those kind words and for helping to keep this board going <3

@funkykey I am so sorry about the low AMH results. Having just received similar news, I completely understand how upsetting and terrifying it is. I still stop and shudder every time the number pops into my head and for the past few weeks I have been waking up at 3am in a panic that my ovaries are shutting down and I'll never have another period. I'm somewhat more rational in the daytime, but it's very, very hard. You still have age on your side and a good response to stims during your first round + having 4 embryos to freeze is another positive. While I'm sorry it had to happen this way, I'm glad the news has made it clear for you that you're making the right call to do another round right away. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that you get multiple PGS normal embryos as a result.

@emmasemm I'm sorry to hear you were so sick afterward, but I'm thrilled to hear your retrieval went so well! I'm hoping so hard that you have good news today and that both embryos made it to freeze.

@mighty-mouse that must be so hard to balance your happiness for your twin with your own struggles right now. But yay for a big follie and triggering!! I know you were so disappointed after the last round, so it's great news that you responded this time and I'm keeping my fx crossed that you will be following your twin very soon!

@kristimh80 so happy for you to have transferred yesterday! Sending all my best sticky vibes for your little embryo and hoping your relaxed attitude will continue during the TWW and that you have good news at the end of it!

@oklahomak it's great you feel confident about this cycle and I'll keep my fx that it pays off!

@Worldtravler0522 I don't have any personal experience to speak from, but I agree with others that you should keep the appointment with the immunologist. It sounds like it's something that you've been thinking about for awhile and I would hate for you to cancel it and then regret it later if there really is nothing wonky with your uterus (and I sincerely hope not!).

@Bababatty I am right there with you in adding unnecessary anxiety to almost every situation! Happy that you had good timing this month and fx crossed you won't need the hysteroscopy ;)

AFM, thank you to everyone for your good wishes! I'm happy to say that the appointment with the genetic oncologist went very well yesterday. The doctor did speak very good English, but my family tree was also much appreciated! Basically, she said my risk for breast cancer based on my family history is not the highest it could be, but it's also not the lowest. She wasn't too concerned about my mom's cousins that have had it since they are three times removed from me, but the fact that both my mom and her sister had it at an early age is obviously concerning. However, because my aunt tested negative for several gene mutations, she thinks there is only a 5% chance that my mom would test positive. She left it up to me to ask my mom to get the test and I'm leaning towards asking her, but still need to think about it for a few days. Ironically, my main risk factors right now are the early age that I started my period (10.5) and the fact that I haven't had any children yet (just another reason to feel guilty for waiting!) Her main recommendation is that I have a manual breast exam every 6 months and a mammogram/ultrasound every year (I've already been doing this). If there is every any doubt after one of those exams, then I should have an MRI straight away. She wrote a letter explaining all of this to my RE and I'll bring it to her next Friday when we have our follow-up appointment. I'm really hoping that with this final piece to the puzzle, we'll get the green light for IVF in September!

QOTW: What's in your junk drawer? We don't really have a specific junk drawer, but my husband's designated desk drawer is probably the closest thing to it. It's full of bills and papers that he needs to organize + random keys, pens, plug adapters for the US, etc etc. Basically, it's a mess!

  • @oklahomak fingers crossed for you this cycle.

@worldtravler0522 I think I would opt to see the immunologist.  Why not tackle it from two sides at once - unless that's stressful for you or cost prohibitive.  I think the more information the better, even if that information is just ruling out one problem or another.  And even if your other doc is right, it doesn't mean there couldn't be two contributing factors.

@mirabelle33 so glad your appointment went well.  I didn't realize starting your period at a young age was a risk factor for breast cancer, or is that only with a family history?  Hope you get the go-ahead for September.

QOTW: Junk drawer?  Which one, we have several.  Batteries, twine, markers, dog collars, art supplies, power cords and chargers.

@ChristenMA83 thanks! Unfortunately, I believe it's independent of family history. It has to do with your lifetime exposure to estrogen. You can read a little more about it here.

If anyone is interested, you can estimate your risk of breast cancer here. The doctor I saw yesterday actually did this for me, so it's approved by the medical community!

ETA: even with all my risk factors, it still came out that my risk was only slightly elevated (20% by the time I'm 90 years old compared to 12% in the general population), so I hope I haven't freaked anyone out!

  • @oklahomak - welcome, I hope your stay here is short!

@Worldtravler0522 - I agree with PP. See the immunologist, just get their opinion. That's great that your specialist is so confident and doesn't think it's necessary, but I'd go just in case. You've spent the last few years working with confident doctors who failed to figure out the problem. A little more research won't hurt. :)

    @Bababatty - I always hope too. :)

@mighty-mouse - I agree. Watching my twin go through a happy pregnancy while I was still TTC would be really tough. Sending you good vibes and hoping you get KU-ed soon.

@mirabelle33 - Nighttime is the worst. I mean, my biological clock was already ticking, and now that I have the AMH results, it's basically deafening. I can't hear anything else.

Glad to hear the appointment with the oncologist was good!

@ChristenMA83 - only a few more days to FET!

QOTW: We seem to have a lot of old keys and old electronics cables. Ugh.

AFM: I'm still a little in shock from my updated AMH numbers. When I was growing up, I always wanted a big family. Even when we started TTC and for the first couple of years, I was like: "This is just a delay. We can still have three kids. I just have to be patient and this is all going to work out."

Over the past couple of months, with those last failed FETs, I've been feeling like: "Ok, maybe we won't have three. Maybe we'll just have one or two." And now, with the AMH and the failed FETs, I'm really feeling like: "Holy sh*t, we will be really lucky to have just one child." Having a second - two children?! - seems like it's beyond my wildest dreams, like I shouldn't even hope for that. It's even a stretch that we might have one.

I think, as a result, I'm grieving that loss. And maybe also just dealing with how awful this past few years has been. I know everyone goes through hard times, but this few years of uncertainty and waiting have been pretty agonizing. I often wish that I'd known things sooner. I wish so many doctors hadn't been like: "Your odds are good!" and then, bam, more failure, with a side of debt. Even now, that I've officially moved into "DOR" territory, I feel so frustrated. Like, I didn't have DOR three years ago when we started trying. I didn't have DOR when I did IVF the first time. I've aged into it while actively undergoing treatment. Ugh.

Anyway, yeah, so I'm pretty depressed over here. IF sucks.

  • @Bababatty I laughed out loud at your make it rain comment.  I just checked my deductible tonight on my insurance and I'm $75 away from meeting it. Take all the blood you want now people, scan everything, run all the tests!!!

@kristimh80 very good point!  I take it you've seen an immunologist?  I'd be curious to hear about your experience if you have.

@mirabelle33 it sounds strange but I wish they would find something to be honest because at this point I've got no real answer.  It's so frustrating!  I want wonky but completely fixable haha.

@funkykey I'm sorry just doesn't even seem to cover it anymore for the crappiness you've experienced.  Have you considered talking to someone about everything just to get it out there?  I've seen someone on and off for years and it's been helpful for me to work through some of my issues.  If I knew you IRL I would come over with Costco cake and wine to help sooth the crappiness.  Hang in there!  <3

  • @worldtravler0522 I hear you on the excitement over insurance deductibles.  I'm less than $1000 away from my out of pocket max for the year.  I've never been in shooting distance of the deductible before so there's an odd excitement over this.
