GTKY-4th of July

What are your 4th of July plans? Do you have any traditions that you enjoy every year?

Re: GTKY-4th of July

  • We won't be able to do our family tradition this year. Actually, we've only been able to do it twice in the last six years, so ... not much of a family tradition, huh? Haha.

We won't be doing much today. H has to work. Possibly a church potluck this evening, but not much else. Where we are currently doesn't do a lot for the 4th.

  • We are about to go see Jurassic World with the family and then getting together with neighbors this evening.

We have two sleeping beauties in heaven.
Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016.
Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015.
They will be forever missed. <3
       Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • We are headed to the pool with my brother and his wife after DS wakes up from his nap. We invited my other brother and his family but they haven’t confirmed yet. Other than that we had a party at my brothers house last weekend and a community event the weekend before. I’m having a bit of anxiety. My brother and his wife have been trying to get pregnant for a while now and we just found out about this baby yesterday.
  • DS's birthday was yesterday, so normally we are celebrating his birthday around the same time.  Our city also has a festival with a fireworks show which was last weekend for this year, so we have been going to that every year as well :) DH and I both work for our family's HVAC company so usually we work through summer holidays.  Today we're working half days and probably telling our parents about the new little one on the way  <3:)

  • Our town shuts down the main street for a small festival that lasts most of the day, ending with fireworks. DH wants to bring DS (18m) to the fireworks at 10pm for the first time. I think it’s a bad idea but we’re only a few minutes from our house if it does fail epically. We might head up early to walk around or we might cook out on the grill at our house with our friends (they already know about this baby). In years past, we would walk to the fireworks and get drunk - or go down to the lake and get drunk - but those days are longgggg gone.

@momstahp DH is a manager at an HVAC company and he’s been talking calls all day. It’s crazy how much business they’ve had this week! Hopefully you guys aren’t having too crazy of a day.

@lovesclimbing Sorry you aren’t being able to enjoy your traditions. Sounds rough.

We had a neighborhood BBQ last night that ended in DD throwing up which continued all night. They have a big party in the park by our house but looks like we will be skipping that since she’s not well. DH is starting to spike a fever and just threw up too. Funny how I’m supposed to be the one vomiting and it’s everone else that is. I’m sure I’ll catch up to them in the coming weeks.

Our main tradition is watching the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest. :D

Ugh, TB keeps eating my comment. Our only other plans are having my brother over for dinner. Keeping it low-key today.
  • @JLaVO888 I’m sorry everyone is sick, that’s rough!

we had our first annual block party since our street is finally finished being built!! It was fun but sooooo hot. Since I had already taught a FIT4MOM class this morning DD and I only made it a hour before we both came home and took naps lol. I left DH there to be social for us all
  • We are at my brother’s house for the day with family. We cookout, the kids run around, and shoot off fireworks once it’s dark. We’ve been getting together every year for a while now. New this year is DH and I are taking DD camping for a few days with my parents. Luckily the campground is only a couple minutes from my brother’s house.

  • We have spent the last several years (including this one) out of town at my SIL’s beautiful farm. It’s a crazy mess of cousins, pond swimming (I pass on that one), visiting the alpacas, and lots of snacking.

Oh, it's not that big of a deal, honestly. It'd be fun, but we're having fun doing what we're doing this summer anyway. And it would have been a challenge to do our tradition this year anyway. It entails a road trip and the vehicle we would have to use is in poor repair and might not be able to do the trip.
