Maternity Leave Question ... FTM with full time M-F job and freelance job on the side

Hello! FTM here and hoping to find someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to maternity leave.
I'm planning on taking disability first (6 weeks) and then PFL right after (6 more weeks) from my full time, Monday through Friday desk job.
My question is ... I also do freelance graphic design as a side gig. I read something online that freaked me out — something about the fact that if you do freelance on the side while on disability or PFL, you'll have to pay a portion of your disability/PFL pay back as a result.
Obviously if that's true, it doesn't make sense to continue to do the freelance gig until after my leave is over!
Anyone been in a similar situation?! TIA!!!
