I thought the first tri was tough, but now I have learned that this end of the second tri is harder because I don't feel pregnant and it's extra unnerving on the PGAL brain.
So on Monday DH & I are meeting my new OB, hopefully we'll get a quickie ultrasound - but I'll settle with a Doppler. Tonight I'm going to make a list of questions, and I hope I can think of some good ones!

ME TOO! Tuesday I have an appointment with MY new OB!
It’s at an odd time so I’m having to hire a babysitter for my son which is...a little nerve-wracking but something I’ve been needing to do for a very long time. I’m hoping she turns out to be a gem so I feel good keeping her on as our main sitter.
But anyway! I went in to this new place to sign a release of records and the entire waiting room was full and everyone looked miserable. Not a great first impression, but my doulas talked the doctors up so I’m willing to give them a shot. I’m anticipating a very long wait for a very short appointment though. Looking forward to getting my a/s on the books though!

Friday is my 16 week visit! Can't believe it, but so excited to see/hear baby again. If all looks good, I'll make the leap and announce on Facebook. I'm concerned about the weight gain (boo!) but otherwise I hope it's a short and sweet appointment. Spotting hasn't returned and the pains/ abdominal discomfort I was having are gone. I tested negative for UTI which I was concerned about, so I guess I was just too much in my own head.
If I'm lucky I'll get the results back from SO's CF carrier screen!
@echo-charlietango Even if you can't, you probably aren't being graded. Probably.
I've got a 7:30 am appointment bright and early Monday morning. I'll be interested to see what I've gained; we don't have a scale at home so I have no idea, but I definitely feel like I'm getting enormous. Also currently rocking a helluva sinus infection, so I'm excited for the immediate post-office visit pharmacy trip to get whatever my doctor tells me I can safely take to keep my face from exploding.
@PensiveCrayon I'm excited for your new OB appt too! I hope the babysitter works out well, I was just looking for doggie daycares for my little furricane - his separation anxiety is a blaaaaast.
@scaredunprepared I'm happy that the spotting hasn't returned! Hope you get your SO's carrier results too - FX!
@AGK2015 It's easier to assume that I'm being graded, so that if I am - I am ready. Haha! Meanwhile, I haven't even picked up a pen. I hope your appointment goes well, and that you can take meds ASAP - sinus pain is the worst.

Tomorrow I have an ultrasound for the anatomy scan and ..... dun, dun, DUUUUNNNN ... find out if we have a buck or a doe in there!! Haha - my husband is a big hunter. I told him if it’s a boy we’ll do a little buck themed baby shower sans cameo colors! Hahahaha! I am super anxious for some reason about the ultrasound. I’ll be 18 weeks 3 days tomorrow and only put on 5 lbs so far. Hope baby is healthy in there!
I’ve got an appointment this afternoon. I need to ask if there’s any concern over how many runs I’ve been taking on a regular basis. The weight check isn’t going to be great, as my eating has been shit, but I’d lost a pound at my last appointment so I guess it’s fine. Just have to adjust and stop eating like food is going out of style.
@AGK2015 Boo to sinus infections! Hope your appointment went well and you can get some relief now!
@countrygirl624 Hello EDD buddy! I also have my AS tomorrow at 18 weeks 3 days - I'm so excited, but also nervous! We're also finding out baby bean's sex at the scan. Your shower theme sounds so cute! FX for a great scan!

How weird would it be to bring my 6yo DD to an appointment? I think she'd LOVE to hear the baby's heartbeat, and she's generally well behaved and can sit still for the amount of time I'd be there. I just don't want to be some weirdo bringing her kid along if that's a no-no.
@runrinserepeat I think it might be weird if you had to do an internal exam and she was in the room with you, at least I'd be weirded out by that. But just a regular Doppler appt or ultrasound I think is perfectly fine!
@Jens_Hoes and I don't think there's any reason for an internal exam until like week 35 again, right?
You guys, she's just so cute. She reads The Bump app updates every week and geeked out when it said that "you may start to feel baby kicking between weeks 17-22". She's just so excited.
@runrinserepeat I think the next internal would be when they do the strep check, and then after that probably just checking your cervix once you're full term/over.
My OB appointment is Tuesday at 8 am. I figure it'll be about the same...hear baby's heartbeat and measure fundal height. I'm a little weirded out that they haven't taken any blood or urine since I was 9 weeks, but maybe thats normal? I also haven't had any pelvic checks whatsoever.
@binxybaby They did a quick pelvic exam at my 10 week/first scan and then also took a gallon of blood at that time. I went in at 15 weeks to hear the heartbeat and peed in a cup and that’s been it so far til tomorrow!
@binxybaby I had a pelvic exam and some bloods drawn when I was six weeks - but I was only in early like that because I am PGAL. Besides that I only peed in a cup every four weeks, and gave a quick vial or two of blood for my NIPT at 10 weeks. All of that was with my old OB, not sure what the norm is with my new practice! Hope your appointment tomorrow is still a good one though

@runrinserepeat that is adorable! My 6 year olds are totally into this baby as well. Let me know how she does at the appointment. I've been debating taking my kids (not all at once) to an appointment because I know they would love it, but I'm also not sure if they can go in for an ultrasound (which I'm getting weekly right now)? Maybe I'll ask at my next appointment.

Not weird at all. Bring her! Especially if she is excited.
@binxybaby My OB doesn't start doing urine samples at each appointment until 28 weeks/GD testing. I had one at 9 weeks with all my blood work, but that was it.

I have my 12w appt and NT scan tomorrow. It's been a month since I've had an ultrasound and seen the progress of my SCH. I thought I was doing good but I've had some bleeding last Friday and again today, so I'm really curious to see what is going on. And of course see baby!
So apparently I still haven't gained anything; nothing to worry about, according to my doctor, but it's jarringly different from my last pregnancy (where I think my final total was about twice what's usually recommended, gained steadily over the course of the whole pregnancy). That said, I'm measuring a touch ahead, and Marion's heartbeat is nice and strong, which was a nice bit of reassurance They also had me lay down to get my blood taken for the quad screen, which was nice; I'm better at needles than I used to be, but that was a low bar to clear, honestly, and I still get a little woozy. Most importantly, Sudafed is apparently safe for pregnant ladies, so if it ever kicks in maybe my face can stop hurting?
Next stop: anatomy scan!
Fingers crossed for nice, reassuring appointments for each of you this week
@runrinserepeat I'm not sure - I received the instructions for my anatomy scan awhile back and it said you had to be over 8 to be in the room for the entire scan and under 8 could come in for the last 10 minutes. But I'm thinking if I'm getting weekly appointments that are not as thorough as an anatomy scan it should be fine? I'm pretty sure they would sit there and not interrupt the tech anyway.
Oh, weird. I told one of my friends, a sonographer, that I didn't think we'd have much choice but to bring both kids to the a/s. She told me that 75% of the people she scans bring younger siblings, and that it was probably totally fine. I suppose different places have different policies, though.
Good luck to everyone with appointments this week! It is crazy that some of us are far enough along for a/s’s. @gorgeousariel I’m sorry you are still bleeding, but I’m glad you get to check on baby this week! @runrinserepeat I have been taking DS to my appointments and he was at one of my ultrasounds, too. He is only 2, and when we heard the heartbeat, I told him what it was he yelled, “Hello!” I actually had him with me at my last pelvic exam and just had him in the stroller up near my head so he couldn’t see anything.
My appointment was good! LO’s little heart was beating away at 150something, and he kicked the Doppler a few times for us! New OB says that everything is on track for me at 16+5. Trace protein in the urine, but normal. He thumbed though the records I brought and agreed that yes - I am an uncomplicated patient and that’s a-okay. I squeezed on three pounds since my last appointment, so weight gain is steady. I did swing by the lab for a quick draw for AFP - for spina bifida, but agreed that we don’t need a quad screen. Scheduled our anatomy scan!! Hopefully I’ll feel LO moving before August 1st, it’s so far away!
And we celebrated with Jaimaican lunch & a virgin piña colada. Mmm.

My appointment was pretty uneventful. OB is happy with just about everything - weight gain, blood pressure, labs, baby’s heartbeat. So basically good. She recommended Zantac for the tummy crap I’ve been dealing with. Hopefully that helps more than the tums.
@gorgeousariel I really hope your spotting stops soon! I know how anxious it can make you just think positive thoughts, that's what I did for my three months of bleeding!
@runrinserepeat Tell me your review of Zantac! That's what I might be stepping up to after my next appointment (from Pepcid/Tums.) Would love to know if it's a significant improvement!
@echo-charlietango Oh my god I want to get a virgin pina colada right now! That was something I treated myself to on my babymoon last time around and I remember it being delicious.
AFM, I just have an endocrinologist appointment Friday to check on my thyroid levels. They have (luckily) been awesome and rock steady this time around, so if I have another appointment where they don't have to change my medication, I don't have to come back until late third tri! (Which would be amazing because my endocrinologist's office is kind of far and very annoying to get to during rush hour or lunch hours.)
Just had my OB appointment. Baby seem fine. I heard his heartbeat on the doppler. Did seem a little faint and hard to find, but that could be positioning. *TW* However, when nurse found out I'd had the NIPT, she said that women who get abortions after finding out their babies have chromosomal abnormalities will be punished by God and won't be able to have any more babies. *End TW*
Doctor also said I've gained too much weight in the past four weeks. I lost 6-7 lbs in my 1st trimester and am only up 2 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight so that made me feel like shit.
Overall, terrible appointment. I just have to remind myself that the most important thing is a healthy baby. I can put up with everything else if baby is healthy.
@binxybaby WTF. I hope you complained to someone that she said that. What a terrible thing to say, even if she believes it, its NOT appropriate to say to someone. Your OB practice sounds terrible!
@binxybaby Yikes! That nurse was totally out of line! (Also, do people get NIPT with that intent?! DH and I just wanted a heads up if kiddo needed a specialist - never considered termination ) And I would be upset about the OB’s reaction to the weight change too
Would you be able/willing to change OBs before your next appointment? I only ask because my new one is wonderful, and @PensiveCrayon is meeting her new OB today. They do work for you, and you don’t have to put up with their shenanigans if you can choose
