I’ll start with one that might get me flamed...we’ll see. This is an offshoot sort of of the discussion about alcohol yesterday. I breastfed my baby and drank alcohol without checking the time between, pumping and dumping or any of that, and I plan to do the same this time. There is enough evidence that I’ve read about to suggest that the amount of alcohol that makes it to breastmilk is practically non-existent. The general rule of thumb as far as I know is if you can drive you can breastfeed, and that’s what I follow. That’s about two drinks at most for me though especially pp.
Same same @rosebud332. In fact I considered it almost better to enjoy my drink while I was feeding my son because it surely wasn’t getting to the milk within seconds of sipping. ...right?

There has been so much research that shows the amount transmitted from you to your milk is so minimal that there is actually more alcohol in a glass of OJ. The deal is if you're sober enough to hold your baby safely, your sober enough to feed! There was only one night I pumped and dumped in the 14 months I breastfed and that was because I was legit drunk and baby was at a sleepover. Otherwise I always fed after a glass of wine or two! @PensiveCrayon actually, that's exactly what my lactation consultant advised (along with "Have a beer, the yeast improves production!"). But honestly, I never really timed it one way or another, nor did I pump and dump; my understanding is alcohol makes it into the breastmilk in the same quantities as it makes it into your bloodstream, which means if you're legally drunk in IL, your breastmilk is a whopping 0.08% ABV, or 0.16 proof (and since I didn't have more than a glass or two at a time, it wasn't even that high). I feel okay about that.
My FFFC: I've been job hunting on company time, and I don't even feel bad about it.
I agree with all! I had a few drinks while breastfeed and NEVER pumped and dumped. I was at a wedding in September/October so 4-5 months postpartum and was WASTED. Luckily my daughter slept through the night long enough that I didn't have to use pumped milk because she would have been drunk for sure.
I feel like I will get flamed for this, especially after the conversation the past couple day, but I think beer is gross. I also only have maybe 4-5 glasses of wine per month. It’s not that I’m opposed to drinking or that I won’t get drunk occasionally at an event, I just don’t think about it, I guess. Plus, I definitely don’t get out as much since having DS. Ok flame away!
@katy0990 I'm not a big beer fan either. I probably drink it less than 5 times per year. There are only very specific settings in which I prefer it over other drinks, and I don't do those things very often (pro baseball/football games, or if I'm at a lake/beach are the only ones I can think of at the moment).
I haven’t bought a single thing for baby - literally NOTHING! I haven’t even looked for clothes or strollers or car seats. And I don’t have any nagging feeling to do so anytime soon either. 18 weeks (tomorrow) and I’m just like - whatever! Kind of makes me feel like I’m already a bad Mom.
Yep, I don't mind having a drink or two and nursing either! I had to pump and dump only once in 14 months because I got hammed at a NKOTB concert.
That NKOTB comment is probably flameworthy itself, but I'll add another. I love teen drama shows like Riverdale and Pretty Little Liars (I loved Degrassi 10 years ago...you know, when Drake was on it and played Jimmy?!).

@clbness PLL since it's ended I've adopted The Bold Type and Famous in Love. No shame. Also no judgement for NKOTB. I just paid $130 for tickets to Aqua and Prozzak.
@clbness NKOTB should not be flameworthy!! Since they came back out in 2009, I've seen them at least 10 times. I blame my mom because she never let me see them when they were first popular when I was about 7.
Re: alcohol and BFing, man I'd be sitting in a restaurant sipping a mojito while simultaneously BFing my son no flaming from me!
@katy0990 as much as I love wine and mixed drinks (beer is okay depending on situation), we really only drink on weekends (and not even every weekend). Usually 2 glasses each so we don't have to worry about the leftover going bad lol.

I was to the point of regularly asking DH if he wants one, so I could steal a sip. For the longest time he was turning it down, but this week he's had one or two. Yuuuuuum.
