Type 1 diabetics — The Bump
High-Risk Pregnancy

Type 1 diabetics

I have had type 1 diabetes for 20 years and recently found out I'm pregnant! I'm about 8 weeks along. Any other type 1s out there able to give recommendations on what I should be considering re: risk factors and genetic screening? Anyone had NIPT covered financially since we are considered high risk right off the bat? Thanks!

  • I'm sorry I'm just seeing this! Hi fellow type 1! You are probably right around the time for either the NIPT or NT ultrasound. I only had NIPT at 11 weeks, and it was covered by insurance. The doctor had to code it a certain way. I also ended up having a blood test around 16 weeks to test for spina bifida, since the Panorama test didn't test for that at 11 weeks. Then I had anatomy scan at 20 weeks, and fetal echo at 22. Best wishes for your pregnancy!
