@bmac2015 I would definitely ask to be tested now rather than wait.
@CecilB93 I tried the gluten free from pizza hut! The pieces were so tiny haha! So I had three and a salad and my numbers were in the 120's after one hour! I got the veggie lovers and it was pretty good!
@CecilB93 I had a little experiment last night. After dinner, with insulin, my number was 146 after one hour. So I tested also after 2 hours and it was 120.
Which shows that even when I have elevated numbers after 1 hour it can be non elevated after 2 hours.

@mamajudec2018 yay!! Glad it worked for you too!! They are tiny, but that just means you can trick yourself into thinking you're getting more with more slices lol. I'm trying 4 for lunch today because the last 4 slices are super tiny. We'll see! I'm just so glad to have a pizza I can order rather than make lol.
I'll try to remember to test after 1 hour for today ladies! Breakfast has already passed, but it was just Greek yogurt so I doubt that would be high by any means lol.
@CecilB93 Let me know how four goes! I'm thinking 4 is doable with how small the pieces are I agree it's nice to be able to order. Especially when family wants to order food and I typically say yea I can't haha.

@prudence9-2 yea the site says 15 g, but mine were cut pretty wonky too lol.
So four slices at lunch, my level was 120 after one hour and 118 after two hours. I expected more of a difference, but hey, both numbers are fine with my doctor lol. I'll both one and two hours after dinner too and see what I get. We're doing burgers (I'll do either no bun or half bun, half seems to work for me with fast food, even with fries) and potato chips. So definitely a risky meal for my numbers. It works half the time, so we still do it.
@CecilB93 wow! Very risky dinner! But good job about 120 after 1 hour. Did you walk after the meal?

Well damn, should have left out the bread for dinner. Level was 136 after 1 hour but 137 after 2 hours. So per both your standards I pass, but per mine I failed dinner. Hmm...I wonder what doctors would have to say about that - failing per one standard but passing per another.
ETA idk why but buns we buy make my numbers high, but buns at fast food restaurants don't. I'm really thrown by this. It's not like fast food places use wheat bread, plus they're usually smaller burger patties than what DH and I make. And I don't feel like Fries and chips are very different...ugh idk
@prudence9-2 no walking after lunch, mostly sitting at my desk honestly lol.
@CecilB93 wow, if I ate 60 gr of carbs (4 slices) I would have had to fast walk 20-30 min before I’d get 120!!!
interesting how the number went up. It happened to me few times too. I checked again because my number was high. And when I rechecked 30 min later it was even higher

All the pizza talk made me crave some. So I made pizza on the bread that I usually eat. And also had salad. My meal was 47 gr of carbs and I did the insulin shot before. Well my number was just the highest I’ve ever got... 179!!!!! and that is with insulin!!!

@prudence9-2 that's crazy! Sometimes I'm truly shocked by my numbers, especially when it's a meal I've done before and not had issues with. Like @mamajudec2018 said, sometimes I feel like there's no rhyme or reason to my numbers. I probably should walk more but I'm not the type of person who can just pace around my house, and it's way too hot outside unfortunately. Looking forward to fall when we can walk with DS around the neighborhood after dinner!! I will say my highest was 183, and it was a meal I expected to be high (like 140-150) but not that high!! I think it was just an off day or something. Maybe I was stressed, I think that can make a bit of difference in numbers. But just remember, that one super high reading isn't going to "make or break" anything. My doctors all told me it's the consistently high numbers that cause problems.
@CecilB93 I usually don’t walk like that in my apt either. But for so nervous by he high number!!
@mamajudec2018@CecilB93 I agree. Sometimes smaller meals cause more damage. And another time they’d be totally fine. The diabetes nurse told me that sometimes the pregnancy hormones are just so strong!!! I’m gonna email they about that number. And the night before I got 146... ahh

@prudence9-2 That's so great that your numbers dropped so fast! This is a weird illness that we have haha. It can just be so frustrating!
@prudence9-2 and @CecilB93 I will admit that I walk laps or circles around my house sometimes. When I was really struggling with my numbers a couple weeks back I was walking for 15 minutes after each meal. It makes me feel so ridiculous haha but it's totally worth it for this little boy.
Just curious what your little ones were measuring at your anatomy scan! Booker is in the 72nd percentile. A little big but my OB said that is to be expected with Gestational Diabetes. 7 inches, 13 ounces. He is measuring 20 weeks 4 days and I am 20 weeks 1 day. So far so good just a tad big!
@mamajudec2018 they never really told me, but as I was watching I noticed measurements ranging from 19w2d to 19w6d, I was 19w5d at the time. So about right on track here. I would say at 20w1d that measurements at 20w4d isn't big. The tiniest little change in how the tech draws that measurement line can change the number of days, so I wouldn't worry honestly. If LO was a week or more maybe, but not 3 days.
Okay guys, tiny AW moment...I ate pasta the other night (chicken Alfredo with extra mozzarella cheese added to the sauce)!! I kept the portion small-ish and made sure to have plenty of chicken (which is tough to eat these days). Afterwards DH and I were removing the old folding doors from our laundry area, and apparently just carrying one of those down the stairs (essentially 2 flights, and not heavy, just awkward size) and maybe taking the stairs another time or two plus general walking around to do things was enough activity!! My number was only 112 after! Woo!! It can be done ladies!
@mamajudec2018 my LO was measuring 20w 3d, so 2 days ahead.

@CecilB93 yeah. To be honest, I think that 99% of my numbers will be below 120 after 2 hours. I don’t think it is as strict as the 140 after 1 hour.
Today for lunch the soup that I got was really low on carbs. So I also got, for the first time since GD diagnosis, a side of sweet potato fries. I only had 16 pieces and I went on a 20 min walk after and my number was great. Maybe next time I can have 20 pieces

@CecilB93 I think being able to eat that is worth celebrating! I figured out that I can eat two pieces of normal pizza (with a side salad or another veggie) from pizza hut and if I walk 20 minutes I'm all good! It's the little victories haha!
@prudence9-2 That's great about the fries! I never seem to have any problems with fries so it's something to look forward to eating!

@prudence9-2 I'm sorry you have to double your dose. What are you at? If you don't mind sharing. I know I asked someone before, it may have been you but I don't remember, so I'm sorry if I already asked! I'm on insulin for my fasting number (so I take it right before bed with my evening snack) and I'm doing 22 units of NPH, so the slow acting insulin. It sucks, but I just keep reminding myself "this helps the baby"
@mamajudec2018 I’m actually happy about it. Because it will help my numbers
@CecilB93 yes, it was me you asked my nighttime insulin is 6 units (slow acting). And my before dinner is 4 units (fast acting). They started me with 2 units but that wasn’t enough.

@prudence9-2 I didn't think anyone else wasn't on insulin, so I figured it was you lol. I'm jealous you're able to get away with 6 at bedtime. My 22 has kind of been borderline lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if they bump me back up to 24. But, at 24 I had a couple readings under 70 and they don't want to risk me getting too low, so who knows.
@CecilB93 6 doesn’t always work for me. But they only told me to increase if I have elevations 3 days in a row. And so far it was never 3 days in a row.
But at least you’re on one shot a day

@prudence9-2 I'm doing pretty good! Just getting bored with the same meals. DH and I tend to cycle through meals and forget to try new things sometimes lol. I may have to increase my bedtime injection, but I've been bad the last couple nights and not had a good snack, so I'm thinking that's the issue honestly. Otherwise, I'm just glad my MFM hasn't gotten upset with me for skipping breakfast on the weekends lol. I sleep in, then it's too late for breakfast anyways, so I just get a snack and then wait for lunch.
@prudence9-2 Everything is good on my end! No meds still. Everything is pretty controlled except for the every once and awhile high lunch number. Tired of same old breakfasts and all the bad for me food I wish I could have haha but pushing through.
My birthday is coming up and my family would like to know how I want to celebrate. Have you guys had birthdays while having this or will you have a birthday? And do you know of any good low carb cake recipes or anything like that so I can semi celebrate? I know it makes me sound like a baby but going out on my birthday sounds awful because 1.) My family always orders appetizers and I have to just sit there and watch everyone eat. 2.) I don't want the people to bring me a dessert that I have to watch everyone else eat.
@mamajudec2018 I know I wasn't a looking forward for a low carb cake/cup cake recipe and was having trouble finding anything, but there may be better option when it's not limited to funfetti like I was looking for lol. Honestly, I've had cake a couple times. I just make sure it's after I test my meal number, and only if that number isn't high. It's your birthday, and one piece of cake/dessert won't harm anything, just keep it minimal still, don't overindulge. When we go out (super rare anyways...) I don't test from the appetizer, I test from the first bite of my main entree. Unless it's a super fancy restaurant, there's not a lot of time difference anyways, but I know some places (depending where/how fancy or how busy the place is) I'd be halfway through my 2 hours by the time the entree comes out.
My little booklet of carb choices shows one 2" piece of frosted cake or brownie is 1.5-2 carb choices. My dietician told me that if I was going to eat a dessert/piece of cake, the best time is for your afternoon snack. If you do it after dinner, just make sure you eat a really good snack right before bed to help your fasting number. If it's high, just tell the doctor it was your birthday and you celebrated, they can't fault you for one day.
Or, could you do dinner out and dessert at home? Then you'd have more control over the carbs. I can take a look on Pinterest for something low carb, anything specific you like or would want for your birthday? It would just have to be made, not bought, if you do dessert at home.
@mamajudec2018 I don’t think I can recommend what to do as you and I are in totally different GD severity... I can’t eat any sugar. My numbers are really not under control. As they just prescribed me also breakfast and lunch shots if I feel like I need to that day.
My bday is at the end of October. So unless things change, no bday cake for me

@CecilB93 Thank you for all of those tips! I honestly usually just avoid apps but it is so frustrating haha! I think I probably will just do everything either at my parents house or my house so that way we can control everything.
I think I might just go for it with a little dessert! It feels like one time isn't going to be terrible.
If you happen to see or try a low carb recipe let me know! Thank you for being willing to look for me, that's so nice! The only ones I can find have a ton of artificial sweetener in it and im not sure how i feel about that. I would love brownies or cake (red velvet, chocolate or vanilla).
@prudence9-2 I'm sorry girl! We get to meet our little miracles so soon!!
@mamajudec2018 I have a huge bag of stevia in the raw that i never use, so that's I usually my sweetener lol. There is a sweetener called Swerve that's really popular, I'd try it if I didn't already have the stevia. Not sure if it's any better (healthier) than other artificial sweeteners or not though. I do think at home/family members house is your best bet if you don't want to risk having high numbers!
Hi ladies. I have a weird question for you. Let me start out by saying I am freaking out. I woke up on Friday morning with numbness in my lower lip and chin. My fasting numbers were 69 so I thought my sugar numbers were just super low. However the numbness is still here and I would say worse each day. It's in the left side of my lower gums, chin, and lower lip. We got me a grinding teeth guard yesterday and I wore that last night so my jaw doesn't hurt as bad but the numbness did not go away by any means. I just don't want anything to be hurting the baby, like if it's some sort of weird allergic reaction or something.
This is so weird to me and I'm wondering if you guys have ever experienced anything like it. Of course, normally I would call a dentist and go from there but since it is Sunday, I don't know if I should wait or go to urgent care or what. I don't want to have permanent damage to my face or hurt the baby. Any ideas or experience with this?
@mamajudec2018 what did you decide to do? If it were me I would call the on call nurse and see if I should go to urgent care. I know if swelling of the face occurs you are suppose to go in. I believe swelling is related to blood pressure.
Re: Gestational Diabetes
@CecilB93 I tried the gluten free from pizza hut! The pieces were so tiny haha! So I had three and a salad and my numbers were in the 120's after one hour! I got the veggie lovers and it was pretty good!
Which shows that even when I have elevated numbers after 1 hour it can be non elevated after 2 hours.

It says 15 on their website but they are all cut so differently I don't think it's super accurate. My numbers were great afterward.
DS2 due 12/12/18
But good job about 120 after 1 hour. Did you walk after the meal?

ETA idk why but buns we buy make my numbers high, but buns at fast food restaurants don't. I'm really thrown by this. It's not like fast food places use wheat bread, plus they're usually smaller burger patties than what DH and I make. And I don't feel like Fries and chips are very different...ugh idk
@prudence9-2 no walking after lunch, mostly sitting at my desk honestly lol.

interesting how the number went up. It happened to me few times too. I checked again because my number was high. And when I rechecked 30 min later it was even higher

Everything is good on my end!
