I have a tame one- my in laws are coming tonight for the weekend and I haven’t changed the sheets in the guest room since someone else stayed over a couple weeks ago. During a marital spat related to said in laws coming, I told my husband I wasn’t gonna be busting my ass to prep the house (just so they can leave it a mess) and told him I wasn’t doing anything to prepare. Told him he could do everything since he was the one approving them coming and he was like FINE THEN. And I know he hasn’t thought of it and he never WOULD think of it. They should just feel lucky there’s still clean towels in that bathroom from the last visitor.
This morning: DD sneezes and a huge glob of snot shoots out onto the couch. I don’t have any Kleenex so I use a pair of DH’s socks that are lying on the side table nearby to wipe off the snot. He’s running around the house getting ready to leave for work and I resume taking care of DD. As he’s rushing out the door, I notice he’s wearing the snotty socks. He’s just barely going to make it to work on time, so I take the high road and... don’t say anything.
I wouldn’t be making any extra effort for a visit from my ILs either. My thoughts are “it’s your parents, so it’s your problem”. Then again, my MIL and I don’t have a great relationship anymore and her fiancé is definitely not my favorite person.
My confession: I’m leaving for a week long solo trip on Father’s Day and feel zero guilt about not making a bigger deal out of it. DH and the kids dropped the ball on mother’s day AND my birthday this year. I’m going to enjoy the hell out of my week to myself and let DH see what it’s like for me when he’s OOT on business.
