Preferred side to look over?

Hi all,

So we had our two month check last week and the doctor asked me if my babe prefers to look at one side. I said I don't think so...BUT now that I'm paying attention, yes he prefers to look over to his left.

So I googled this of course and now I'm worrying about his neck muscles not growing correctly, flat head syndrome etc. Will he need physio etc. Wish I knew about looking out for this weeks ago. :(

He loves to sleep staring out to his left side. When holding him he looks to his left. When playing he easily tilts head to the left. In his car seat his heads falls a bit over to the left.

I started putting him down to sleep looking to the right. He keeps his head there for a long while but eventually turns to left, which is fine I know. Prob not comfy one side only anyhow. I also hold him and pay attention to keep him looking to the right. When playing on his back I put toys to his right so he can play and look there....but this one is a challenge and looks like he can't turn his neck naturally to look, more like a slight turn. I'm debating on going to take him to physio. Stressed.

Try a chiropractor. I know it seems like my answer for everything. An adjustment is quick and easy. With all the trauma from birth they can have a lot out of place.

Nate does that too. The pediatrician said to just make sure to turn his head to the other side every once in a while

My doctor mentioned the same thing at our 2 month visit. Jeffrey likes to look right so I just turn his head left when I put him to bed. The doctor mentioned giving us a referral for PT but I thought that seemed excessive this early. We’ll just wait and see what she says at his next visit.

@nancysimp yes try a Chiropractor first and see if that helps!

    Wyatt prefers to look right.

@nancysimp One of mine had that same issue around 6 weeks and we started putting him down facing the right or up, put toys to his right, and dramatically increased tummy time. It looks a lot better now. I think the tummy time made the most difference.

    Hi all :)

Massimo is much better now with looking and turning his neck to both sides. I am encouraging the right side and paid attention to things I do and where I am in his view. Seems to have worked. He doesn't look tense anymore and naturally looks to the right..he still favors the left but I'm happy to see his neck rotate to the right vs just up to the sky and his eyes to the right. It really worried me. Phew :)

@megpeg  thanks for suggesting the chiropractor.  We ended up bringing maeve  and it turned out she had a problem with her shoulder and the muscles there.  Shes doing great now.

Jeffrey just had his 4 month doctors appointment and the time and effort we put in getting him to turn he’s head the other direction and strengthening his neck muscles worked! The doctor mentioned that he still is slightly (she didn’t even notice at first) turned to one side but nothing to worry about.
