for dd1, i did a water garden theme. koi and lily pad crib skirt, dragonfly bedsheets, and antique pictures of pond scenes of weeping willows, lily pads, koi, cranes, & irises.
i am thinking of re-using the idea because i have all the stuff and i still like it. if these are boys, i may try to re-focus it towards frogs and/or turtles instead of dragonflies.
We're moving DD to the guest room and reusing the nursery. We painted it yellow for DD, neutral animal sheets. I got really impatient before DD was born and crocheted a ton of stuff for decoration so the nursery has an inadvertent crochet animal theme (jellyfish hanging on the wall, monkeys as curtain holder things and a random giraffe on the bookshelf.
We're going to reuse DD's room completely as is and move her to a new "big girl" room. The nursery is a Finding Nemo/fish theme. For DD's new room, I'm just going to focus on colors--purple, teal, and brown, I think. I'll have to experiment with what looks good.
Here's a pic of the Finding Nemo crib set we got (minus the bumpers and mobile). I wished we hadn't gotten the set though; it really is not necessary. Fitted sheets are really the only thing you need.
We are team green so keeping it neutral and doing an animal theme. We had the entire house painted a neutral gray/beige not too long ago and I refuse to paint the walls in the nursery again! I also want a giant stuffed llama, because who doesn’t think that’s adorable?
We don’t really do a theme... more a color scheme like @CopperBoom86 said. I do love the bedding and sheets at Pottery Barn Kids even though they cost a damn arm and a leg but oh my some of the designs are so cute.
We also don’t really do themes. DD1’s room was pink and lime green because I found sheets and a rug I liked and went with it. DD2 we did purple and grey. They’ll be sharing a room starting this summer...we will see how that goes, ha. The baby will sleep in our room for the first few/several months, so I’m in no rush to get stuff done. I also don’t do full bedding sets...most of what comes in them is a complete waste, IMO. We just buy a few sheets.
We did a forest them with DS, but we are just going with a color scheme this time (purple and grey). DS just turned 4 and he is asking us if we can repaint his room too. DH suggested moving DS and reusing the theme but I said a hard no on that one. Mostly because purple is my favorite color and this was the only way I could get DH to agree to purple paint Also, the paint in that room is currently a hideous "baby poop yellow".
We put some blue and green fish up when we had our toddler, but no actual theme. I just liked the fish. We also decided we will be having the younger two share a room so we can have a play room. No plans to change anything, just grab another dresser and toddler bed. Then we will put a focus on making the play room nice. I am super excited to get my living room back. Right now my brother is living with us until February. When he’s gone we will move the then 12 yo downstairs, keep the toddler by himself, baby with us and work on the toy room.
@ashkee05 Those fish are so cute! How great that you're going to have a play room. I'm dying for one! @firsttimespartanmom Do you have a pic of the giant stuffed llama you want? That sounds adorable! @highsteaks The water garden theme sounds so cute and very unique!
Question time!!! The room we are moving DD into has 3 khaki-colored walls and 1 dark brown wall. I've been planning on just working with the walls because I really don't want to paint. I thought if I just put enough light-colored stuff in the room and worked with it, it would be fine. But my mom and sister are telling me that I must paint the dark brown wall because it's too dark. Do you think it really matters?
We bought this bedspread (in spoiler) for her room today and I think the light blue will look great with a dark brown wall. I also found this wall decal (in spoiler) that I'm thinking about putting on the dark brown wall, in either light blue or lilac. Anyone have any thoughts on this? It probably doesn't really matter, but I want to make a super fun space for DD so she doesn't feel shadowed by the baby, so I really want it to look nice for her.
@offtoneverland team you and team brown wall. i also heard that having a dark accent wall elongates the feel of the room (thanks bobby from QE) so that’s a plus. i LOVE that bedspread and the decal will look better against a dark wall imo.
Otnl: I think dark brown will be fine if you spruce it up with light/brightly colored decals and decor! Your plans sound super cute for the big girl room pist pics when you're done!

@highsteaks@lurvleybunchococonuts Thank you so much! I was so surprised that they were telling me I had to paint over the wall. I'll just tell them no. They don't live here, so they can't tell me what to do! I will definitely post pictures when I'm done. MH wants to have the room ready for DD's birthday in August, but I can't help but get a head start. @firsttimespartanmom That is the CUTEST freaking llama I have ever seen.
@firsttimespartanmom Yay, thank you! I just texted my mom to tell her that no, I don't want her to paint the room when she comes to visit this weekend. She asked why and I said I liked the brown wall. She said "you can't be serious!" I don't get what is so wrong with a dark brown wall!
I sort of did safari animals theme, but I’m terrible at decorating so it was very minimal. I had giraffe, zebra and elephant artwork, plus lots of safari animal stuffed animals and the boppy cover you can see in the pic, plus clothes etc.
These are from just before DD was born hence why it’s so clean and sticky notes on dresser
I would recommend doing the nursery before the baby comes (even if they won’t be in there at first) because you actually have time and energy that doesn’t exist when you have a newborn
For this baby I was thinking a under the sea/sea animals theme. Or maybe an Alice in Wonderland theme since we are leaning heavily toward Alice as the name...
I'm not real great at decorating. We had a loose astronomy theme, which DS still likes so when we move him to a big boy bed we'll pry get his bedding to match, keep his planets mobile, i love you to the moon and back sign, and I need to finish his canvas of the night sky the night he was born. I also took a picture of him a couple years ago and used some photoshop magic to make it look like he was pointing up toward the milky way that's in his room. I really like simple nurseries. DS slept with us until he was 9 months hold (and we moved when he was 3 months old) so we never really "finished" his room here (we've been here over 3 years whoops). I have a few things on my to do list to make for decor in the house (mostly signs, and DH to make some furniture) but DH applied for a job out of state so I feel like there's no rush until we hear back from that.

@firsttimespartanmom That llama is adorable! I want one now for myself @highsteaks That nursery sounds like a dream. @lifesabeach85 Please do an Alice in Wonderland theme! That sounds like so much fun to put together. Side note: your baby’s nursery looks like a tree house loft I want to come live in. Love all that natural light and the sloped ceiling.
We’re doing classic Pooh, regardless of sex. I can work in some light pink stuff if we have a girl. My aunt was team green when she had her first baby and this was the theme they used. She passed all of the stuff down to me because I absolutely love classic Pooh.
I am still hoping we will have a new house before baby gets here. If not he/she will just be sleeping in our room. I have no clue where we are putting all the stuff!
I'm not sure how much of a theme we'll be doing. I'm not a huge fan of animals so I feel like that eliminates a bunch of ideas. We don't move into our new house until mid-July so I have some time to think about it, but I think that's the first room I want to tackle so I'd like to be ready to go! @mockingjay1 Astronomy is such a cute idea. I'd never thought of that
@offtoneverland - thank you so much for making this thread! I love seeing/hearing everyone's ideas.
@goldie987 - I love your crochet animals! You are so talented. Besides my grandma I know one person that crochets and I am hoping she will make sometisom for our little one.
@mockingjay1 - I was thinking of doing some kind of sky theme with the Stars and moon but not 100% sure yet.
Thanks for the feedback on the bedsets being a waste of $$. DH and I were looking at them at the babiesRus sale and we're not sure if we would make use of it. I like the stars and moon mobiles that I've seen so that's what I am leaning towards. Since we still don't know boy or girl I've been looking at a lot of grey stuff. All we have bought so far is a mattress for the crib (we figure we will find a crib eventually) and the mattress protector.
Baby's room is all ugly 70's paneling. Any ideas how to brighten it up? Don't know what we're having yet. And I'm not sure how well the paneling would handle paint?
@horsecrazy406mama You can definitely paint paneling. I would look up some tips online before you do it to make sure you pick a good color that will accent it instead of making it look awful. When we moved into our house a couple of years ago, there was paneling in the basement that had been painted over. It was a yellowish white color and it was horrible! I think you could definitely make it look super cute if you do it correctly. I bet you could find some fun ideas on Pinterest!
I think I want to do a yellow and grey theme, regardless of gender for this one! That’s the color of the rug in the room now (DD2 picked it out), and I got sudden inspiration in my nesting yesterday to go with that!
@rmg85 I love those pieces you have for your nursery! Did you paint the crib or did it come like that? I've never seen a teal crib. I love it. The hedgehog lamp is adorable.

@offtoneverland - The crib came like that! I love it so much! It's from Delta Kids. I had a hell of a time finding a website that would ship to Canada but finally got it from Overstock.ca I feel like it will work so well for either a boy or a girl. Bonus is that it converts all the way to a double bed.
@lurvleybunchococonuts - I know! I could not resist the lamp. And the moose is sort of an inside joke with my hubby so had to have it too lol
This is the decal we are planning to get for over the crib too! But we will customize it to have teal and gray and our LO's name once we know the sex next week.
And then probably some of those mountain shelves you see all over Etsy too, to tie the mountain theme in (clearly a FTM lol)
@rmg85 if we are having a boy we are leaning mountain theme too! I have recently become obsessed with hedgehogs ever since we got a onsie with them on it!
Our home is a split floor plan and since our room is large, we are putting our LO in our space. I have no interest in tracking across the house at night, especially since I am nursing. Its kind of a win-win for me. I get to upgrade our room furniture and decor. We are going with a grey/silver, blue, and white/cream theme. If we move, we can add different accent colors to each space to make them more unique.
We've painted the nursery white and mint green. We've been through a couple of themes that go with mint green, but now we've abandoned all that and just decided to stick to a color scheme (mint, gray, yellow, little bit of pink). It's much more fun! We went fabric shopping and got all sorts of different patterns in that general theme. I'd like to keep the room fun, bright, and interesting. I also am a big fan of mixing and matching.
Here's a picture of our nursery for my first girl. We've made a couple of changes since then (installed window shutters and replaced the rocking chair). For this baby, we're keeping the ABC wall but I am unsure about bedding colors. We used pink, purple, and lime green bedding with DD and I still have it so I'm debating between using that again or going with something new. I love the new Cloud Island collections from Target and if I decide to go with something new, I'll probably use the theme in the 2nd picture. Furniture will remain the same. Sorry for the giant photos.
