    diet and exercise so far

    Upcoming appointments:
     MFM today, OBGYN next Thursday

Any questions, things you are struggling with and need support on, or rants/raves?
this is my first MFM appointment, so I have a lot of questions. I’m glad it’s a 2 hour appointment. I hope it means I’ll get a lot of information.

Feel free to share some meals/foods/recipes that are working for you, or foods you found you have to avoid:
I’ve been doing the slow-carb diet. I don’t monitor my numbers yet, so I don’t know if it’s helping/working. I do have more energy now that most of my carbs come from legumes.

Management method (diet/exercise, insulin/other medication):  I'm diet controlled for now (was just diagnosed at 27.5 weeks).  We'll see if I can stay that way.  So far my after-meal numbers have been pretty good and I don't have to be SUPER strict on carbs as long as I get enough protein to balance it out.  My MFM said now is when a lot of growth happens so it gets harder to control until about 36 weeks and then it gets easier to control your numbers after that.  So far my fasting numbers are the unpredictable ones.  Some days it will be in the low 80's and then the next day it is in the mid 90's with the same snack.  (They want my fasting 90 or below).

Upcoming appointments:  I have twice a week NSTs (and once a week fluid checks) and weekly bloodwork thanks to my hospital stay for low potassium.  They normally wouldn't have started them until 32 weeks but they started at 28 (which is kind of unnecessary but oh well...).  The blood work to check potassium, magnesium, and platelets is necessary though.  So I go every Tuesday and Friday and then next week I have an appt with my MFM and a 32-week growth scan so I'm excited to see how big they think she is.

Any questions, things you are struggling with and need support on, or rants/raves?  Not really.  Just annoyed with my fasting numbers.  I know the high fasting numbers correlate to eating dinner late some nights but it's been a crazy couple of weeks and DH and I don't get to sit down and eat as early as we'd like.  (The kids eat before us so I'm not starving my kids lol).  That and I'm having a hard time fitting snacks in with being busy at work and the work we are doing on the house, kids' activities, etc.

Feel free to share some meals/foods/recipes that are working for you, or foods you found you have to avoid:  I know I can't eat cereal and milk for breakfast and milk doesn't seem to work for me at bedtime anymore which makes me sad because, heartburn.  But Halo Top ice cream seems to work well for a bedtime snack (as long as I don't eat dinner too late or sleep too long lol).  The oatmeal cookie flavor is good and one of the lowest calorie flavors.

    Management method (diet/exercise, insulin/other medication):
    Metformin, diet and exercise

    Upcoming appointments:
Tomorrow for NST...booked at the midwife's office every Tuesday and Friday for the rest of the pregnancy for NST. Growth scan in less than 2 weeks to see how he's growing, hoping he's still 50th percentile.

Any questions, things you are struggling with and need support on, or rants/raves?
I'm just about 33 weeks and my after meal numbers seem to be going down/getting easier to control. Still having issues with my fasting, not much change there, but my MFM is happy with 50% of them being a little high(around 100) as long as the other half are good (ranging 85-95), as long as growth and NSTs continue looking good. He told me if I am well controlled on Metformin at this point, which I am, the chances of needing insulin are much lower - I guess I made it past the hormone surge hurdle and in a couple more weeks they should drop off a bit. So I am feeling good about all that, just need to stay focused on the diet and exercise. It's mentally exhausting having to plan and pay so much attention to what I eat, and also sometimes really hard to find the time and energy to exercise, but I am doing my best. But man do I miss pizza...

Feel free to share some meals/foods/recipes that are working for you, or foods you found you have to avoid:
Still can't have much carbs at breakfast...15 is too much, but 11 seems to be okay. So weird. Chocolate milk before bed, or full fat ice cream, are working okay for me to sustain me overnight.
  • Well, after feeling pretty positive earlier today, I missed my afternoon snack because I was too busy at work and then couldn’t eat it in the car since it was yogurt and I didn’t have a spoon. It was my husbands turn to make dinner last night, and whoever cooks is supposed to take something out of the freezer for the next night. Got home and found out he forgot. I was hangry and wanted pizza and became so upset and frustrated able not being able to eat anything. I had like a full on meltdown over what to have for dinner and stormed off to the grocery store. I swear I am so sick of rotisserie chicken I could cry. and I did. I know I shouldn’t let myself get that hungry. I’ve been on this diet for 14 weeks now, and I know it’s nothing compared to those who have to deal with diabetes their whole life, but the stress and pressure and exhaustion is just really getting to me. Sorry just venting.
  • Hi Mommas,
Hope you are all doing well.

    How far along are you?
    34+3

    Management method (diet/exercise, insulin/other medication):
Diet/exercise for now. Had some high readings and doc says she will give me another week to see how this goes, and maybe need to start insulin.
I really don't want that because then they will want to induce earlier. UGH

    Upcoming appointments:
I went to triage for possible high blood pressure ( I Was fine...)
But now I am being seen for NSTs twice a week.

Any questions, things you are struggling with and need support on, or rants/raves?
My high numbers aren't "high" high I am nervous they will put me on insulin and then want to induce. Which I really do not want.

Feel free to share some meals/foods/recipes that are working for you, or foods you found you have to avoid:
I haven't had crazy fasting numbers as some of you are so my late night snack hasn't really effected me (besides in heartburn). I wish I had more knowledge to bestow on you all, but I feel like I am really winging it over here anyhow.

    Good luck ladies. :)
