@piping_panda_mom My dreams have been crazy vivid throughout pregnancy so far! Some are exciting or funnt but the anxious ones and nightmares I could do without for sure
I'm craving deli sandwiches like crazy! I give in all the time too , and I'm trying not to feel guilty about it either. At this point, and being my third, I'm not as cautious honestly.... but I have decided to buy my own ingredients and just make them at my house vs getting at a deli counter. This is really only due to my little grocer doing a self serve style deli bar. You just never know with those...
I know fiber is safe (and good for you) during pregnancy, but the fiber gummies I picked up yesterday have inulin (from chicory root) as the first ingredient and I've heard that chicory is bad during pregnancy because it can cause contractions.
I've seen that Fiber One bars are safe in spite of inulin/chicory unless you eat a ton of them in a day.
Does anyone know if these things are safe before I take anymore? I ate a single dose (three gummies) last night before looking at the ingredients. They're Nature Made brand. I only plan on taking one dose a day (as recommended by the packaging).
I'd rather not have to call my OB over this if I can avoid it (although, yes, I understand that most of you ladies aren't medical professionals, let alone OB's).
@rmg85 it's almost like clockwork--I have an appointment every 4 weeks, and exactly 1 week before that appointment I get super scared. I convince myself that I'll show up to the next appointment and they'll realize that it's all been a big mistake and there's no baby and I've just been getting fat. It gets increasingly worse leading up to the day of the appointment. The appointments were on Tuesday mornings, but I've started moving them to Monday mornings at 8am so I don't have to drive myself (and DH) nuts with my worrying for an extra day.

@MojieJo I just ate a Kind bar and after looking at the ingredients see that chicory root extract is one of them! I had never heard to avoid it before but naturally now I’m freaking out!
@mojiejo I’m definitely a lot more lenient this time. My first time pregnant self would be mortified by the stuff I’m letting third time pregnant self eat.
Anyone know if Emergen-C is acceptable to take? We have friends who came to stay with us this weekend and surprise! They brought their super sick kids. Ugh. We are being vigilant about hand washing and sanitizing everything, but I’d like to bolster my defenses as much as possible.
i don’t want to call the after hours at my doctor about this on the weekend, so does anyone know the wisdom on this?
@josie12367 I’ve been dying for a Publix sub. They are absolutely delicious! @lifesabeach85 I was literally just having this conversation with DH. My understanding is that huge doses of vitamin C aren’t good to take while pregnant because it could cause preterm labor. I don’t know how solid or extensive the research is behind that but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
Has anyone ever heard of horseradish being unsafe? I didn’t even think about it but ate some horseradish cheese with crackers. As soon as I googled it (why I continue to do that to myself, I have no idea) but there’s tons of warnings against it! I’m trying to remind myself that the amount of horseradish in cheese is fairly small and you’d have to eat a ton to cause a problem, but I still hate knowing that I might have eaten something wrong!
@firsttimespartanmom I had never heard about avoiding horseradish. I just found this online though, and I hope it reassures you:
In small quantities, like in a horseradish-flavored dipping sauce, the biggest danger is heartburn.
Large quantities of horseradish can induce miscarriage. When breastfeeding, it can also make your breastmilk taste a little horseradish-y, which is not likely to please your little one.
If you had a small amount of horseradish sauce on a sandwich recently, no need to panic. If you are considering chewing on a horseradish root, or taking horseradish pills of some sort, then you should wait until after your pregnancy.
@firsttimespartanmom I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is quantity. Having a small portion of something off limits won't really be harmful in most cases. A lot of the times they add things to the list that could be harmful in humongous quantities, like more than a human could possibly eat in one day. I don't think you need to avoid your horseradish cheese, just make sure you eat a serving size/normal quantity.
I need help. Last night I got hit with the worst heartburn of my life. I stayed up til 1 am because moving or anything felt like my esophogus was trying to burn out of my chest. Today I got it again. I'm petrified tip eat or drink anything because it comes back with a vengeance. I'm also getting mega nausea with it. I just feel so sick. Any idea how to prevent this? Zantac isn't touching it. I've been entertaining the idea of calling my Dr because that is how bad I feel.
@wildrainbow that sounds terrible and definitely call your doctor. you probably already know this so excuse me for trying to mention it, but jic— eat a small dinner, do not drink liquids with your meals (sips if you must, but try to seperate drinks from meals for about an hour before and after), avoid fatty greasy foods at times you’re prone to it, and do not lay down for at least an hour after you eat. since i’ve been eating about 2-3 servings of greek yogurt a day (along with following those guidelines), i’ve noticed that my heartburn/indigestion hasn’t been nearly as bad (i haven’t actually heard anything official about greek yogurt doing anything, but it’s dairy and i think that’s suppose to help the pH in your stomach).
@wildrainbow - zantac doesn't do jack for me either (I have gerd). PPIs like omeprazole work so much better. You can get an RX from your doc or buy OTC (which is more expensive for us). I'd call your doc Monday and ask.

@wildrainbow nexium OTC worked for me with DS. It isn’t instant relief because you have to take it for a few days for it to get into your system, but once it does it helps.
@wildrainbow That sounds terrible, girl. I got heartburn during my first pregnancy (which I often brought upon myself for not being able to stay away from spicy foods), and just sipping on an ice cold glass of milk helped me. I hope your doctor has a better remedy if you're in so much discomfort that you can't move. That has to suck. Good luck!
@wildrainbow This sounds like a nightmare, I am so sorry!! What little heartburn I get at night makes me pretty sick so I can only imagine how you’re feeling. Absolutely call your doctor to see what s/he can do for you. Don’t wait; that’s what they’re there for. I second 1000% an ice cold glass of milk. It instantly helps me. Omeprazole cured me during my last pregnancy. Someone here mentioned that it shouldn’t be taken for extended periods (and I do believe it says so on the bottle) but per my midwife I took it once a day from about 9 weeks on and I never had a single adverse side effect. You can get it for like $5 at Walmart if you get the equate version. Trust me it works perfectly the same as the expensive prescription. I hope you find something quickly that works!!
Thanks, ladies. I never heard back from my dr, but I think tomorrow I will be getting some omeprezole, just to survive. I took some zofran and that helped with the nausea so that I could at least somewhat function. H found me in the bathroom crying this afternoon because I just felt so bad. I hope this is a one of thing, but I plan on making sure I talk to my Dr. I can't go on like this forever.
@offtoneverland today was much better thanks for asking! I didn't get any meds, mostly because I was exhausted and did well to walk from my chair to the bathroom, lol. Altho I had heartburn today, pretty much all day, it was much more manageable, with lemon water helping in the in between med times.
Food-related question for you all. A guy who works in our cafeteria here at work knows I'm pregnant and he's now refusing to feed me any sort of spicy foods. He's even gone so far as to tell others working in the cafeteria not to feed it to me either! All my research has said that spicy foods are fine, maybe unless you're having like a ghost pepper or something. This is like normal tacos and stuff. Is that a thing?
@ginny_23 as far as I know definitely not a thing! And I’d be super angry even if it was as I don’t like people telling what I can and can’t do regardless of pregnancy or good intentions- maybe I’m just a b*tch though
@ginny_203 in my mind, i’d be wanting to sarcastically ask him where he did his obstetrical rounds during his residency, but i’m non-confrontational in real life so i’d probably just smile and insist it’s perfectly fine for me to eat spicy food but thanks for the concern.
WTAF?!?! The only risk factors to spicy foods are heartburn and diarrhea if you go overboard. Also, there are all kinds of things that could maybe possibly be risky in certain ways or certain amounts to some people blah blah but ultimately you have to be the judge of what you put in/on/near your body. If you need to consult someone, that person should be your OBGYN/midwife not a cafeteria employee for f’s sake. If he gives you trouble you can tell him your doc said it’s fine or better yet tell him the eff off for mansplaining pregnancy safety to you.
Thanks guys! Wasn't sure if this was a normal thing this FTM just didn't know, or if he was way overstepping his boundaries. Thank goodness it's the latter, because I'm craving allll the tacos! Will need to figure out how to tell him to stuff it in a tactful way...
@ginny_203 Definitely not a thing. My first pregancy I craved (and ate) all the spicy things. I couldn't get enough and my boys were full term and healthy.
@ginny_203 I bet he heard the old wives tale that eating spicy food can kickstart labor. Of course that is when you are 39 or 40 weeks along... and it is a tale.
