Questions 5/18

Re: Questions 5/18

  • On the topic of movement. I feel movement maybe 1x per day. But at my 20 week ultrasound the tech was commenting about how much LO was moving and I never felt a thing.

@mommy_myers FTM here, 20w4d and I haven't felt anything yet. My ob told me any time now so I'm just Waiting for it to happen.. but I'm pretty impatient about it haha you're definitely not the only one! From what other mommas here have told me and others there could be a number of reasons you don't feel anything yet, if you're still finding the hb everyday then try not to stress and you'll feel it when you do
  • @cdepperschmidt I used to drink the normal recommended 64oz (under half my body weight but oh well) and my doc told me to bump it up to 90+ oz. I aim for even more on workout days, though I’m certainly not always hitting my goal of 90 some days.
  • I aim for 100+ oz a day. However, I'm also over 200lb.
  • Thanks ladies - you are definitely reassuring :) I never have been accused of being patient.

@cdepperschmidt - all the water!!! I struggle to get 64 oz a day in, ugh. But I think 80ish is the guideline, at least that’s the lecture I get from my non OB MD work peeps.

  • If I don't get 80+ oz, I get headaches. Definitely drinking way more water than I used to.
  • @mommy_myers I'm bringing up the rear of the group, so not as far along as you guys (17+1) but still nothing. I felt Ds at 16+2. So frustrating.
@cdepperschmidt The things I've read (including some papers from the OB office) and the nurse told me to shoot for about 100oz of fluids a day. Apparently that's the commonly given recommendation while pregnant.
  • @mommy_myers My OB said movement between 18-22 weeks is most common. I am 17+3 today and have felt what I think is baby about 3 times now, all within the last week and a half. But it isn’t consistent so I’m not 100% sure.

@cdepperschmidt I have a 20oz water bottle I use at work and I aim for 4 of those, so about 80 at work. I usually get at least 3 but I also have noticed I get headaches if I don’t drink at least 3 of them. Then I usually have a glass or two at home after work.

  • Wedding gift etiquette question. My friend wants this mixer that’s the same price at Macy’s and BB&B right now. Of course Macy’s won’t allow any coupons, but at BB&B I can use my 20% off coupon. But it’s on her Macy’s registry. Is it super cheap and tacky to tell her to mark it as purchased on her registry and get it at the other store? It’s the one gift she told me she really wanted.
  • @chopchop25 is the registry online? Maybe there's a place you can mark that it's purchased if it is. Amazon has a option for that anyway.

  • @coffee-saur tried that...sadly, nope! I think Macy’s gives the couple some bucks back from whatever was spent on the registry, so they track it pretty closely. That’s what happened when I used them, but it’s been awhile.
  • @chopchop25 can you even use the 20% coupon on the mixer? If it's a brand name like kitchen aid, etc, a lot of time those are excluded from the discount per manufacturer request. The coupon should have the list of excluded brands at the bottom. Also, double check that you don't have to buy in store, I thought sometimes it was in store only, not sure if you wanted to buy online.
  • @jemmerjams yup can use it and was planning to buy in store since the wedding is right where we both live
  • @chopchop25 nice, love it when it works out like that!

I agree with @SweetSweetTooth she can always return one for something else and if she doesn't get other stuff from her registry she cn use the money for that! Win win just let her know you got it some where else so if she does return it she'll get the most money back
  • Thanks for the water feedback! I know I wasn’t drinking enough, but I have to way step up my game. 100oz here I come!
  • There was no Friday ticker change this week for my 20 week :( im sad. I'm not comfortable starting threads yet
  • @momoflogan20 aw, start it now...don’t fear starting threads! Super easy and, better yet, we have all just been copying and pasting from the other days for that one anyway! :)
  • @momoflogan20 - I agree!  Go ahead and start it now!  We all get busy, and so having someone step in and pick up when we just can’t that day is awesome.  I don’t know if you noticed, but even though there is someone “assigned” to most of the weeklies, pretty much whoever wants to start one that day does it.

@momoflogan20, I'm with everyone else. If you wanted to post in it this week and it wasn't up yet, go ahead and start it. I get that we 'assigned' people to threads st first so that certain threads would get started and we could build a rhythm,  but on TTGP, threads were started by any and everyone. If someone wanted to post in a particular thread and they got there first, they just started it. I think we've reached a stage where we can start doing that.
  • Yea I don't think anyone's that attached to starting a thread... it's one less thing for them to do.

Sorry about that! Friday was crazy for me, didn't realize I forgot it until Saturday night and just didn't get a chance to do it. Please, feel free to start it if I forget! I also totally forgot about paying my credit card bill on time this month, so pregnancy brain is kicking in.
  • @sammierose464 - I literally just paid my credit card bill and mortgage like three minutes ago.  Thank goodness for online bill pay and mobile apps.
  • DH's credit card is a PITA. It's through his bank, so you can only do online payment if the money is in an account with that bank. Thankfully DH had paid some toward it the other week, so the minimum was covered and we wont' be late. I have to mail a check to pay it, or have him take a check into the bank. It's so dumb. I can't wait until we have it paid off.
  • This is a completely random question...I know some parts of our body go back to how they were pre-pregnancy, but what about my areolas? I know why they get bigger during pregnancy and for nursing, but when I'm done breastfeeding do they get smaller again?
  • @sammierose464 My nips never really changed so I have no idea there. Also didn’t wean til I was already pregnant again so my boobs are just super confused. My rib cage and my hips never went back though. I got down to 5lbs less than my prepregnancy weight with DS but still needed jeans in a size bigger.
  • Thanks. I swear mine are much larger and definitely darker. DH will be happy if they keep their habit of being hard all the time. That's probably his favorite pregnancy symptom.
  • cjx95cjx95 member
@sammierose464 I noticed mine are getting large too and a bit darker!! I'm hoping they at least shrink down a little bit when I do stop breastfeeding. I don't care if they stay dark I just don't want to see them in certain outfits that were a bit showy before and definitely more so now!
  • Those that have done their 20 u/s did they check cervical length? Did they do a trasvaginal u/s for that?
  • Those that have done their 20 u/s did they check cervical length? Did they do a trasvaginal u/s for that?
I did mine Friday. Yes, they checked for cervical length, and no, it was not done transvaginally.
  • @SweetSweetTooth I’m not sure if they checked or not with DS. But if they did, they didn’t need transvaginal to do it. Belly only.
  • Thanks ladies!!!
  • @sammierose464 mine went back to normal very quickly. They got super dark during pregnancy but lightened up about a week after delivery. The size took longer to go down, but not too bad. Thank goodness too. I was not thrilled with what they turned into!
  • @cdepperschmidt I'm finally catching up on reading stuff and I just wanted to send you big hugs!!

@sammierose464 Mine never actually changed much, but I've had friends who have said theirs go back to normal. I'm guessing it's one of those things that's dependent on the person too.
  • @SweetSweetTooth Mine checked too, but it was not transvaginally. In fact, she almost forgot about it and had already started putting things away when she remembered. It was super quick.
  • My OB recommended that I take a b6 supplement for my morning sickness. When I looked it up, I saw some side effects were nausea, headaches, and dizziness. Are these common side effects or rare? Experiences?
    Ladybug - April 2013
    Dandelion - October 2018
    Angel "Aurora" - July 2020
    Angel "Sawyer" - May 2021
    Angel "Maxine" - January 2022
    Angel "Violet" - March 2022
    Baby Dove due March 2023
  • @mytrueloves I think they're fairly common side effects for b-vitamins.

I’m putting this in the question thread, because I’m not sure where to put it otherwise. (It could potentially go in the BF thread, or the stupid things people have said to pregnant you thread.)

I’ve had a few people asking me if I’ve “connected” to baby, especially since the 20wk ultrasound.  I don’t even know how to respond to this question.  How can I connect to someone I don’t know yet?  Yes, the ultrasound was totally awesome and cool.  (Seriously, one of the most awesome things I have ever done.). Yes, I’m beginning to feel baby, but not enough for that to be more than simply an experience of being pregnant.

At the same time, I feel like I have so much to get done to get ready for baby, that sitting around daydreaming about baby isn’t something I can do.  I figure that the connecting part will come later- when I actually see and hold xem.

I know some of you have already connected with your babies, but I am sure I am not alone.

Are there specific things you have done to connect with them before they are born?  How do you respond to questions like this?  (And am I out of line for feeling like the are too personal/invasive?)

    ETA: words are hard.
