Hi STM+ mamas! How are you doing this week?
1. How far along are you? What are the ages of your other kiddos?
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
Re: STM+ Check In w/o 5.9
10 weeks and 1 day! DD turned 2 in early Feb.
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
She is at SUCH a fun age right now I want to freeze time. When I tuck her in, it's the DD comedy hour. She's telling jokes, making fart noises, asking for wardrobe changes, whispering very important things like PIZZA to me, it is one of the best times I've ever had with her and I love it so much. Of course, I'm battling nausea during these times, but it's still pretty perfect.
Also, we are starting potty training this weekend. Assuming I can get the Oh Crap, Potty Training book read by then. Say a prayer for me, haha.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
I still can't decide about when to change DD to a toddler bed - wait until 6 months after new baby is born? Do it now? I don't want to do it right around the the time of the birth because I don't want too many changes too fast, but I have no idea. She sleeps so well in her crib, she doesn't climb out, I...don't know. I also am worried about them sharing a room (they'll have to eventually, but I think we might try to get a mini crib on wheels and have the new baby share a room with us for 6 months?) Sleep arrangements are, funnily enough, keeping me up at night!
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
In an absolutely ideal world, I would go into labor naturally this time around and not have to be induced, then I'd get to labor at home until I was like 7 cm, hurry to the hospital and have the baby without an epidural. Butttttt....my OB tends to think I'll have a very similar experience to last time and will end up being induced again, so I am not getting my hopes up. If I have to be induced I'm doing the epidural 100% and it will probably be nearly exactly like last time (which was fine, honestly, just very, very long, with some scary moments that I'll know better how to avoid this time around.)
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? I feel like the milestones aren't really as obvious when kids are as old as mine are. DS says poop a lot, and is constantly telling me out of the blue how much he loves me.
DD's starting to talk about first grade in the fall, and she's excited. Both kids seem to really like school, which is nice. She's also started running with me occasionally, which is fun and frustrating (only because she begs me to come along, and then complains the entire way, and then cries when I drop her off at home and don't take her with for the rest of it).
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Really starting to wonder when we should tell them, and HOW we should tell them. Anyone tell siblings in a fun/cute way? I want them to be excited, and I think they will be, but... there's also a chance that they'll be a little put out, LOL.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? If my water could NOT break while I was in bed this time (like it did the last two times), that would be super.
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? She's great, babbling a lot more. She's also doing this weird head shake thing that makes me worried she has an ear infection, but who knows. She won't stop WAKING UP EARLY. I need to wake her by 6:45 on the week days and she's been getting up at 6:15, and then does that on the weekend. LIKE SLEEP IN WOMAN.
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Nothing I can think of...
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? I would prefer to not be so late. She was 10 days overdue, and I induced her. But the induction actually went pretty smoothly. I will be getting another epidural. I think maybe I'll be more prepared because I know what real contractions feel like.
I'm 6 weeks 2 days today!
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
She was being a little terror this AM and she's a super late teether so she's getting in some teeth right now and causing her to be such a grump.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
My little just needs to get her teething over with already! I'm over her attitude. But also, she's been so defiant lately that I attribute that to the upcoming terrible two's. Just a preview of what's in store for her teenage self.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
I would love my birth to be almost exactly the same, although it won't be given I'm moving and won't be able to have my same wonderful OB for my entire pregnancy. I labored mostly at home and went to the hospital at around midnight, had my epidural around 6am and had my DD at 730am. I got my epi at 8cm but prior to that I had no meds. I would prefer this time no epidural, but I'm okay with it if I need it. I could hardly breathe with the contractions w/ CH since she didn't drop til the very end and I had to have on an oxygen mask for a bit. I'd be more than okay with this baby not to have meconium in the water this time though which almost caused DD to be a NICU baby, but thankfully she didn't inhale any.
1. How far along are you? What are the ages of your other kiddos? I’m so lazy but I have a million kids. 7w5d
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? We homeschool all year long and just ordered new curriculum and an super excited about it.
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Rant- don’t kill your dandelions, the bees need them!
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? My birth last time was nearly perfect. At home and fast. I truly anticipate it to be similar this time around.

I also nurse her at that time, and I honestly don't know how much she's getting. I may try some formula and see if she'll go back to sleep.
Edit: duh you just said he's not in his crib.
Does he play contently in his room?
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? Complete threenager mode. Lord help me.
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Not really. Just had my first OB appointment today. It was uneventful because they are waiting til my appointment next month to do my first ultrasound and lab work and all that. So I still feel like a waiting duck here
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? I would like this next baby to be a little more cooperative with positioning. My son was OP and he was stuck. I pushed for 5 hours and then he was finally out with the help of a vacuum. I’d like to have to only push 2-3 times this time... I have friends that barely pushed and baby was out. Not gonna lie... I was totally jealous! 5 hours was exhausting. Worth it. But exhausting.
@Jens_Hoes If you figure out the secret to getting them to sleep in plz share. My son is up before 6 a.m. every morning, but I leave him in his crib until 6:30. He doesn't complain, but I feel bad anyway. #momguilt
1. How far along are you? What are the ages of your other kiddos? 9 weeks today, 16 months today!
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? I don't know, I'm starting to worry-spiral about his lack of progress in everything again. Blah. But yesterday was suuuper fun when he 1) opened my prenatal gummies in the morning and started eating them, 2) screwed the lid off his water cup and dumped it on the floor after dinner and then 3) managed to get the lid off the Zarbees bottle in the cabinet I'd forgotten to re-lock and quietly dump all that over the floor of the bathroom while I was pooping just feet away. I don't know if it's user error on my part or if he's really getting these childproof lids off.
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Naps have been effed today. I took A to hourly care so I could write and he fell asleep three minutes before we got there. I figured he'd make up for it by taking a good nap while I was gone -- I'm trying to transition him to one nap, after all -- but apparently he only slept for 20 minutes. Stuck him in his room for a half hour when we got home and nothin'. Early bedtime tonight. Again.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? Let me count the ways. The baby wouldn't go 10 days overdue. Labor would be a lot shorter. The baby wouldn't have trouble engaging, and wouldn't get stuck. It would take three lovely pushes to get the baby out. And above all there would be no meconium (my son is that cautionary tale @trucksntutus ... 3 weeks in the NICU and an initial brain scan that showed "no normal activity") and some immediate bonding time.
@maureenmce I'm planning on doing the same thing -- laboring as long as possible at home (my mom will be there to monitor me) and then rushing to the hospital...shortly before transition? I don't know. Luckily it's literally two minutes away from my house.

Oh. My. God. That's one of my fears!!!! Eeeeek! Glad everything turned out OK but jeez, what a scary start.
How far along are you? What are the ages of your other kiddos?
8w5d. DD is 14 months.
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
She is great. I don’t think any milestones this week but she’s just very chatty and learning a lot.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
This is just a really fun age. She always talking (not that I understand anything she’s saying) and she mostly just a happy little baby. She loves to play and have books read to her.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
I guess in a perfect world I would try for a vbac. But it’s very likely that I will have another planned c section because I didn’t wait the amount of time they recommended to do that (18 months), and it’s also very likely baby will be breech again because I have a uterine septum which was the problem the first time.

2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? No milestones necessarily, but she's definitely at the point now where she's learning fast. She's starting to get really conversational; she remembers and talks about things we've seen or done recently or even quite some time ago. She's even starting to tell toddler-y jokes (like, she'll tell me that Old Macdonald had a llama, and then tell me that the llama "HONK-HONK"ed here and there, and cackle about it). She also just got her first invitation to a birthday party for another child at school; judging by how much she talks about him, Hero is her bestest best friend, so we're definitely going!
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Nugget is finally the one who got bitten at school, instead of the one doing the biting. She was the class biter for a long while, so it's really nice to be signing incident reports as the parent of the victim, for once. And honestly, I kinda wanna hug the parents whose kid bit mine; not that I'm glad it happened, but I feel for them. Being the biter's parent is no fun.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? I'm torn on this, because I'm not really sure whether I'd prefer a VBAC or a c-section (I've been told I can have a VBAC if it doesn't look like I'm having another monster baby, but they will neither induce me nor let me go past my due date). I guess I just hope that if I do decide to/get to attempt a VBAC, that I can see it through to the end, and I don't end up in another situation where I'm having a panic attack as they're wheeling me into the OR because I'm so afraid of being operated on while I'm awake. Although I suppose I'd also like to skip the panic attack if the c-section is planned? Maybe just no panic attacks in general.
We did have some luck with a diffuser in his room.
Related to the getting up too early thing, does anyone else have the reverse problem? My DD is a TOTAL night owl. She has been since birth. We have tried everything to get her to go to bed earlier but she has her own (very stubborn) internal clock and she is at 11 energy wise right until about 9:45 or 10pm. I feel a lot of mom guilt because I know your kid is not *supposed* to go to bed at 10 at night. (Plus, I would love more time in the evenings for my husband and myself.) But we really have tried everything, so I'm just trying to accept it. I do wonder how her internal clock will line up with the next LO. I guess I'm hoping they're both night owls so we don't end up staying up late with one and waking up early with the other? (DD does at least sleep until 8am, most days, so that's at least awesome.) But I literally feel like I'm the only mom on earth with a night owl toddler. Anyone else?
8w1d. My son is 4, will be 5 at the end of July.
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
This is such a fun age. I love hearing about everything he learns and seeing how his mind works. Recently he's told me about taste bugs (tastebuds), punchback (humpback) and squirm (sperm) whales and windshield swipers. I never correct him because it's too adorable.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
His not so fun thing he does right now is to ask me random ass questions that there is no answer for, like "why are there houses between all the houses?" or when I answer a question responding, "but how is that true?"
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
I had a pretty good birth experience last time so I wouldn't change too much, but if I could puke less and have the head come out in one push rather than crowning for 20 minutes, that would be great.

2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? He was pretty moody today, but has been a ham the rest of the week! He's such a comedian!
3. Any questions, rants or raves? My son doesn't wake up too early, but I think I still want to try that clock. He comes in out room a lot in the middle of the night and I want to icksnay that before the babies get here!
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? Well, I ended up with a C last time bc failure to progress and a 9lb9oz kid who loved my uterus so much I'm convinced he would have gone way over 11 days past due. I was considering a vbac before I found it was Twinkies, but it looks like a repeat c for me! I'm not thrilled, mainly because I'm going to be so lucid going into surgery. Before, I was in labor for 26 hours and in pain and so exhausted I was just so ready for him to be out I didn't care how. Guess we'll see how this plays out!

1. How far along are you? What are the ages of your other kiddos?
I am 6 weeks 2 days pregnant and DS is 2.
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
He has been kissing and hugging my belly to say hi to “baby brother or sister” and it melts me.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
I am just so ready for the end of the school year. One more week!
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
Everything! Last time my natural water birth turned into a c-section. I had to be induced due to polyhydramnios and ended up with an emergency c-section after 40 hours of labor, 4 internal monitors being inserted, and an epidural 34 hours in. I’m debating if I should go for a VBAC this time or not..
10 weeks, DS is 15 mo
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
He is walking all over the place now! But I am mostly happy that he is finally over his ear infection. It was a really really bad one. He was completely out for about 4 days last week, so it’s nice to see him feeling like himself again
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
I was induced and that didn’t work so I ended up with a c-section. I’m okay with doing a c-section again. This time I just hope and pray they don’t put me on a mag drip again. I had to be put on one last time because I developed severe pre-e and it was the absolute worst feeling ever.
@texas_t I hadn’t really thought about it that way before. I didn’t even know what was gong on last time because I had been in labor for 2 days and pushing for 3 hours, plus the mag drip, that I was just ready to be done. It’s weird to think about going into surgery completely lucid and rested.

2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? Holy hell has it been rough the past month. She is usually super even-keeled, so I was *not* prepared for the drama. Slamming doors, screaming “don’t tell me to do that, I already know to do it!” Hitting (mostly me), unable to tolerate anything not being her way (like breaking into tears today because I didn’t stop at the gas station she wanted me to, or went to park A instead of park
3. Any questions, rants or raves? too sleepy and nauseated to think of anything.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? pretty much everything except that I wound up with a healthy wonderful baby. I’ve mentioned before thst I had a terrible labor experience. Induced and had fetal monitoring the whole time so they made me stay laying in bed the whole labor. I got too much epidural so I couldn’t feel anything from my nipples down, even when pushing. Broke out in a rash on both arms from the epidural. Threw up on myself and a poor nurse who was too close. Pushed for 3 hours, tore, then had episiotomy & forceps when baby started getting distressed. It was scary chaos, about 15-20 people in the room at that point. Poppy had a brief NICU stop for the first 1-2 hrs due to meconium, so we missed out on that time.
This time I want to go into labor naturally if I can. Then labor at home until I’m close. Use water, showers etc. In case I need/want an epidural again, I’m going to consult with anesthesiology in advance to discuss so we can make sure I can feel while pushing — my wonderful OB suggested this. I’d just as soon skip the episiotomy & forcepts too, and have the first hour post-birth snuggling new baby.
9 weeks today! DS is almost 18 months
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
DS is quite adventurous. We’ve gotten down to him just napping once a day now and he’s sleeping through the night in his own room. He loves water!
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
still in shock over here over us going from 1 child to 3 by the end of the year
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
I was induced last time so I’m hoping to go into labor on my own. I thought I would give it a try without an epidural but I don’t see that happening with Twins. Idk. I’m just going to keep an open mind about it all

2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
She's getting better about potty training. She will go 4-5 times a day on her potty.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
I just ordered Sneak Peek! I'm nervous about pricking my finger. I also have the gender test from Walgreens (the urine test). It was on clearance for $4 so I HAD to get it.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
I had a fairly nice experience last time. It happened very fast. My water broke and 5 hours later DD was here. I labored at home for a couple and finally got checked into the hospital I was 4cm and 90%. An hour later I was ready to push. I delivered on all 4s and had a bilateral test upwards towards my clit. Because I transitioned so fast I had no medication. When they stitched me, they used lanocane (sp) but it didn't work so I felt everything. When the midwife was done, she wanted to make sure she didn't stitch my urethra ( yeah please don't) so she was going to put in a catheter but couldn't find my uretjur because duh swelling..she unstitched one side, still couldn't find it so a urologist came in , shoved it in ( all still feeling everything) and says " it wasn't that hard" and walks out... So now midwife has to restotch the side she undid while giving me more shots of lanocane that it's working. So yeah, no tearing or at least not having to be stitched twice!
7+3 and DS is 22mo
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments?
An older kid at the playground called my son “baby butt” and my guy found this hilarious. So he ran around repeating it over and over.
3. Any questions, rants or raves?
Shared the news that we’re expecting with parents that we’re expecting and got zero response. Oh, one comment that she thought I was gaining weight. WTF.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around?
No crazy intense back labor!
Now I will say, my first section was panned (baby was breech). I know 3 others who had sections around the same time I did, 2 of us planned, 2 emergency. The recovery for myself and the other planned was AMAZING compared to the emergency.
I really didn't find the recovery too bad.
But I am still undecided. That said, after DS the nurse told me I most likely would have ended up a section anyway given how big my child was and how HUGE his head was compared to how petite I am. So I think I'm going to have to make the decision as pregnancy progresses. If baby is getting large again I would rather opt for a planned section knowing how much better the recovery is. Hubby is team repeat. But he's not the one who has to recover with a toddler in tow.
On thing to note though. My mom had a section with me. About 15 years later she had a hysterectomy. They always use the same incision. Her scar went from being numb to being completely hypersensitive. She said she felt like she was being stabbed with knifes anytime water touched it or she brushed against it. For another 15 YEARS! Supposedly it's a really common effect from going into the same incision twice. So that makes me a little hesitant.
1. How far along are you? What are the ages of your other kiddos? 10+4 and 18 months
2. How is your LO (or LOs) this week? Any new milestones or fun moments? He's good. Back to daycare after spending the last week at nana's. He loves playing with his friends. He's also been giving more hugs and kisses which I LOVE. Since pushing up supper time and offering snacks while we eat supper I've found he's actually eating again now instead of screaming for other food and refusing what's in front of him so that's been successful.
3. Any questions, rants or raves? Going on Vaca soon and leaving DS with nana for a whole week! I'm nervous I'm going to miss him like crazy but looking forward to the trip.
4. GTKY - Some things are beyond our control, but if you could choose, how would you like your birth experience to be different this time around? See above for my to repeat or not to repeat debate. Last time my platelets dropped too low prior to my section that they couldn't do an epidural and instead had to do a spinal. It hurt a lot more and because they only give you one injection (versus an epidural they leave in and give you more when needed) they have to give more then usual. Plus shots of morphene. I was SO sick I could barely hold my baby for a couple hours after because I kept almost throwing up. So I hope that doesn't happen again.
@texas_t Having has a planned c section I can say it was a very calm experience. There’s no chaos or running around. You are waiting calmly for a while before they even take you back. And your partner can be with you almost the whole time. Mine was with me from right after they gave the spinal to right before they were going to stitch me back up. The whole thing was pretty quiet, doctors barely talked so I focused on my husband and the anesthesiologist who was nice and talked to me the whole time. I was extremely nervous because I’ve never had surgery but it really wasn’t a bad experience.
I remember then ramping up my epidural to completely numb me and it made me really nauseated, so as they wheeled me out, I was throwing up (yay). Then, the epidural meds made me shake really bad and I was freezing cold. The biggest thing is recalling how nauseated I was as they were jostling me around getting stuff ready. I felt like I was a car and they were the pit crew, lol. Then, within it felt like seconds, the doc goes, "Ok, dad, get your camera ready" and he lifted up my son who immediately started to cry and I burst into tears (like, ugly cry) (I'm crying now thinking about it, lol). Then, they shoved everything back inside of me and stapled me up and I was in recovery pretty quickly where I got to do skin to skin for a long time. I'm assuming that all will be similar but instead of laboring forever first, I'll just walk in, they'll put in an IV and come in and do the spinal block and then wheel me back. I was so out of it to be nervous last time, so I guess that's my biggest concern.
As for recovery, I didn't have an issue and felt I recovered really quickly.
