Ticker change simply means that you have started a new week of pregnancy. For example, I go from 17 weeks to 18 weeks on Wednesday 5/2, so my “ticker” changes on Wednesdays. It is our way of marking a milestone.
Questions stolen from Monday.
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
2. How are you feeling?
3. Any appointments this week?
4. Rants/raves/questions?
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
Also: volunteer needed for next Wednesday’s post. I am going to be traveling, and may or may not remember to do it...
ETA: rc-cola is helping out for next Wednesday!

5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
I had one for my 30th and 35th birthday lol. My 30th was a joint with my brother - MIckey and Minnie. It was a remake of a kid party we had growing up since we mostly got joint parties since our birthdays are 5 days apart. For my 35th - My Little Pony! I live in a house full of boys, I get my girl fix where I can.
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby? 18 weeks. Bump says artichoke but that’s a bit prickly.
2. How are you feeling?
Great today! After a few nights of insomnia I finally found a good sleep position and had a great full night sleep last night. Even got up early and went for a run this morning.
3. Any appointments this week?
Nope
4. Rants/raves/questions?
I feel like I’m still in this awkward phase where people can’t tell if I’m pregnant or just packing a few extra pounds.
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
16 weeks! Im going with a can of coke as I could use the caffeine
2. How are you feeling?
Tired/heart burn/weird dreams and kinda moody. I snapped at hubby today who was driving me to work over how he was driving too safe
what is wrong with me??? lol
3. Any appointments this week?
next week...finally
4. Rants/raves/questions?
Im only four months but I look about 6 months pregnant and everyone who finds out Im only 4 months says "oh you're going to be huge" or "wow that's going to be a big baby". Yes I was huge last time and yes I am probably going to be bigger this time but jeez cant people keep the comments to themselves! ugh
Edited to add: My anxiety this week about baby being ok has been really high. I have no reason to think otherwise but I cant help having irrational thoughts. I have felt him move sporadically but nothing constant and not everyday so the reassurance that all is well is not quite there yet.
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
I would love to have a unicorn/rainbow themed party! When I was little I was obsessed with unicorns and now my daughter is starting to get into them and I looooooove it!!!! Last night we were pretending to be unicorns with our spoons at dinner
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
18 weeks, side of guacamole
2. How are you feeling?
Almost over this cold! Woohoo!
3. Any appointments this week?
Just a massage, does that count?
4. Rants/raves/questions?
So a friend of mine just had twin girls. They just happened to use the one girl name that DH and I both love, and have been set on for years. He says if we have a girl (team green over here) use it anyway. I’m inclined to go with that, but feel vaguely guilty. Thoughts?
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
I just saw adult sized wedding bouncy castles are becoming a thing. I totally want that at a birthday party now!
@rc-cola I’m in the same phase, but since I haven’t shared at work yet I’m starting to get some serious side-eye, lol!
@drb2424 you should do that party! Unicorns are way in for adults right now. Unicorn leggings, T-shirt’s, I’ve even seen a couple unicorn onesies floating around!
Love the bouncy house idea too!
I was scheduled to be the lead for a meeting in November - uhm, I won't be here so I need to switch with someone else. I was just going to reply all to my team - anyone want to switch with me since I'll be on maternity leave starting in October? Let them find out in a very matter of fact/business kind of way. But then I chickened out...what if something is wrong and I tell all these people (like 8). I checked with the doppler and found the HB at 144 but of course I psych myself into thinking what if that's not the baby. Usually he's in the 160's. Its a freaking mind game!!!
Definitely still use the name you both love if you have a girl! So many variables—friend could move away, go with a nickname, who knows. And if they do end up sharing the name that’s cool too! I’m proud to share my name with some awesome people in this world.
I agree with using the name. Especially if it is something that is pretty common right now. Maybe think about what you’ll say to your friends if they ask about it to not ruffle feathers.
Also- I’m sure baby is ok; but sending you the internet comfort measure of your choice. Just tell your team that you need to switch because you may have a conflict in November. (Even better- if you know who has what month- just approach the one person to switch.)
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
15 weeks and I don’t know
2. How are you feeling?
Pretty good. I still need my afternoon nap, but definitely feeling better. Now if I could get this pooping on a regular basis thing down I’d almost be normal again!
3. Any appointments this week?
Just did my blood draw (the one that you normally do in the first tri) and have to go back for a drug test because they didn’t mention how much I’d have to pee and I went before the appointment so I couldn’t fill the cup.
4. Rants/raves/questions?
Why are they drug testing me to begin with? I’ve gone through 3 first tri screenings and this is the first that I had to provide a urine sample for, let alone 2 urine samples (they did a culture test too).
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
We actually do this for the adults pretty regularly. I combine mine with my kids since our birthdays are 6 days apart. My favorites were Harry Potter and Star Wars (even though I’m getting burned out on it now, the party was awesome). Everybody went all out for both of them, but more for Star Wars because they know it better - we had space room rolls in the entry way with x-wings and tie fighters hanging from the ceiling, 6’ clone trooper balloons, pool noodle lightsabers, a storm trooper shooting gallery, my FIL bought a “real” BB-8, and all the food was themed. Same for Harry Potter - costumes, a Honeydukes table, themed food, platform 9 3/4, Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom, the chamber has been opened quote on the wall in “blood”... we had to make almost everything for that though because HP party stuff is hard to find.
We’ve also done Game of Thrones a couple times with foods from the cookbook, GOT house banners and some other decorations and then some other parties that we just do themed food - Jamaican, bacon, breakfast for dinner.. we talked about a Viking party but Easter made us have to skip that birthday party. Our next one is for MH’s cousin and is He-Man themed.
Use the name. I have friends that named their daughter the same thing as another friend. I get not wanting the same name, but you’ve had it picked for a while. I have friends that named their daughter the same name as another friend’s daughter. It really wasn’t a big deal.
Edit it because the whole comment wasn’t there.
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
15 weeks and the size of an avocado
2. How are you feeling?
Mostly fine, but the past two days I've felt super bloated
3. Any appointments this week?
Regular OB appointment on Friday
4. Rants/raves/questions?
Another add on for the starting to show/in that weird beer belly phase. I've only told my supervisor that I'm pregnant and didn't plan to tell others for a while, but it's starting to get kind of tricky. Also, this whole being bigger the second time around is for real! I'm the same size now that I was at 20 weeks last time.
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
I've seen this trending and thought about it. I LOVE so many of the ideas you guys came up with! Actually for my 30th birthday party this year we were planning on having a fiesta theme party with a taco bar and piñata
. Definitely planning to have some fun kid games. We are going to use the piñata to revel the baby's sex at the party as well.
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
18 weeks, artichoke!
2. How are you feeling?

5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
Umm a camp out with a smore station, water balloons, pinata with candies and nips since it adult party lol I've always been simple and outdoorsy I guess lol my birthdays in winter though so paying to have it somewhere warm is really the adult part
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby? 16 weeks, and...maybe a scoop of ice cream? I'm clearly making this shit up
2. How are you feeling? tried to ween off the unisom last week unsuccessfully again. looks like i will be taking it the rest of this pregnancy. Also, major back pain is kicking in. I start yoga next week and i can't wait!
3. Any appointments this week? Nope, nothing until 18 weeks!
4. Rants/raves/questions? I've managed to stop gaining horrific amounts of weight for the time being. I feel awful bragging about that, but i was really scared when i gained so much in the first tri, so i am glad i plateaued the past few weeks and am back on track for a normal and healthy weight gain. (for now at least)
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme? Harry potter theme, complete with sorting hat, butter beer, and wands. I might really do this.....
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
16 weeks. One my apps showed me a Batman action figure as a size comparison. I texted DH and said “we’re having a Bat-Baby!” with a screenshot.
2. How are you feeling?
It’s been a week of bad migraines for me. It’s been awful, not eating or drinking enough water and just feeling lousy. But I think today the cloud is finally lifting. Bump is poppin this week, finally I look pregnant! But I’m only up 2 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight.
3. Any appointments this week?
16 week checkup tomorrow. Excited to hear that little heartbeat!
4. Rants/raves/questions?
Super excited because I think we have finally settled on paint colors for baby’s room! If I can get the supplies at lunch this week we might me painting this weekend!
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
Full-on Disney Princess! Pink sparkly everything!
Although these Harry Potter parties sound pretty awesome!
I have been feeling pretty good, finally getting my energy back and the house clean again.
I have my next apt on the 8th.
I would love a cat themed party. Bounce house is a must lol
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
16 wks I read that baby is the size of a small gerbil. Seriously the best comparison I’ve seen yet!
2. How are you feeling?
Meh
3. Any appointments this week?
Had one this morning! His hb was 140. I never get tired of listening to it!
4. Rants/raves/questions?
What questions do I ask when interviewing a doula?? My midwife is amazing and has a few recommendations but I’ve never done this before so I have no idea what to realistically expect.
5. GTKY: If you could have a total kid birthday as an adult now (piñata, candy, party games, goody bags)...what would be your theme?
Mario Party! Complete with N64s and giant projector screens. Definitely want a Princess Peach piñata on the floor that we’d bowl open with Bowser shells because I hate her for some reason.
I have a four page questionnaire for my doula interviews.
Ummm... Nobody’s run screaming yet?
i googled questions to ask doulas and compiled what I found into a single document. Basically the questions cover the following broad areas:
- background, education and experience
- philosophy on childbirth
- what to expect from her during labor
- what services are included, fees, etc
A few things to make sure you ask, as everyone is different:
1) How they support mother when things don’t go according to the birth plan. (In other words are they going to be a chicken sht if you decide to do an epidural or have to have a c-section.)
2) When will they join you in labor and how long will they stay? If you have an extended labor, what can you expect? (Also if you call them for false labor.)
3) Do they have clients or other commitments around your due date, and how do they handle those conflicts?
Other than that, make sure you ask about the things that are important to you. (For example, it is important to me that the doula is comfortable with Guncle’s role, since he isn’t exactly who most people think of when they think of labor partners.)
@tropical1982 I am on the pretty fluffy side but my belly just exploded lol I know the comments are coming but I am going to just have to prepare myself and if I snap at someone I'll just blame it on the hormones!
I have told my immediate co-workers but I work with about 30 doctors and I have only told one or two so far. I have been getting some stares but I figured if they want to know they can ask around. Im not great at telling people so I was hoping word would spread.
Ive been debating on getting a Doppler but I don't want to be obsessive about it so I keep holding off and hoping for consistent movement in the next few weeks.
