Questions and Symptoms 5/1

Re: Questions and Symptoms 5/1

  • Tha ks ladies. :/ luckily it's just a tingle for now, not actual pain yet.  But it happens in any and all positiins, sitting at my desk, standing etc.  It doesn't really feel positional, so it's not like moving makes it go away.  It just passes when it's ready to... Looking forward to this being a new thing then I guess! Lol

@BusinessWife @pourmeamocktail I just started having really annoying rib pain on the left side last Tues. or Wed. At first I thought maybe I had pulled something and it would go away in a day or two, but if anything it's gotten worse. Mine feels kind of like burning, and feels better if I press on the area (it's right below my breast). The most annoying thing about it is that it has made sleeping on my left side intolerable. I already was waking up several times at night to switch back and forth between my right and left sides due to hip pain. I realize the rib pain may well just be stretching, but I have a call in to my provider to discuss it because I don't have another appointment till early June. (Of course this new symptom showed up right after I had an appointment last Monday!)
  • @iba34 yup, that sounds like mine exactly. I definitely don't love it, and mine is the worst when sitting upright-so moss in car or at dining room table. It makes it hard to want to eat or drive anywhere...

Oh hey I think I’m feeling actual kicks for the first time! It doesn’t hurt though - isn’t it supposed to? Cue the unrealistic panic.
I never found them to be painful with DS unless he connected with my cervix or was jabbing a joint into my sides. But even that didn't come until much further along.

  • @nlc8424 Was your doctor concerned about baby being breech? During my a/s a few weeks ago, baby was breech for most of the time and I asked the tech about it. She said they flip around all the time at this stage, but it still worried me a bit! I have another US on Wednesday and I'm curious to see what position he's in!

  • Just called DH to come home early because my lower back is hurting so bad I don't feel like I can take care of DD alone. The pain is also in my right hip and down into my thigh. I don't think it's sciatica because it doesn't shoot down the back of my leg, it's more constant but I do get waves where it's more intense. ?
My back and hips have been hurting so bad when I try to lay down in bed. I just can't find a comfortable position to sleep even with my pregnancy pillow. Ayayay. Thinking of looking into prenatal massage or chiropractics? Anyone have experience? I've never even gotten a massage before so I'm clueless.

@Car0liiine I agree with stothi, especially if it came on suddenly. Even if it’s not as serious as labor, if you’re in that much pain hopefully there’s something they can do to release it.
To answer your actual question, I have had prenatal massages and they’re great. They really helped with my back pain. Just make sure that whoever you go to has experience with prenatal massages, not every masseuse will do them

@southernlady07 like @DanyTargaryen said, breech isn't too concerning currently! I did do a little browsing on spinning babies and it looks like after 30-32 weeks is when to be concerned. We've got time!

@Car0liiine I agree with the others, back pain that bad should probably be brought up to your office. Hope it subsides soon!
  • nlc8424nlc8424 member
@magnolia209 do you use saline nasal spray? That works well for me. I have the same issue and that seems to help along with sleeping with a window cracked open.
  • klj0228klj0228 member
@magnolia209 clearly the best remedy for the nosebleeds is to just move to Miami! But really some of it could just be the air in your area. As @nlc8424 said saline spray may help.
  • @nlc8424 I have saline spray, but it doesn’t seem to get through the congestion. I have Flonase too, but I don’t feel like either are doing much. I just got home a noticed blood on my pillow, so my nose must have been bleeding in my sleep. I agree that saline is probably the way to go - since it’s not medicine.
  • nlc8424nlc8424 member
@magnolia209 it may not help too much with the congestion but should help moisten the nasal cavity itself since the allergy meds are probably doing their job.
  • @nlc8424 Thanks! Maybe I will try spacing out the sprays differently. Allergy first and then saline. I had been doing 1 or the other.
  • @Car0liiine Plus 1 to making a call or getting checked out
    and
@magnolia209 plus 1 to neti pot!

  • @Car0liiine another for calling or getting checked out. I hope you find out what's causing the spasms soon ❤ The fact that they are coming in waves and having points of more pain makes me nervous.
  • @Car0liiine I would also get checked out. That kind of pain would be really scary and even if its nothing at least you know. FX you are feeling a little bit better today. Keep us updated.
@magnolia209 yay for movements! I felt some only very recently as well.

  • @magnolia209 my doctor suggested a humidifier (which you’re already using) and also said I could buy a small amount of Vaseline on a qtip to help moisten the nasal cavity/clean it out. That damn LA air! I don’t remember nosebleeds from my last pregnancy but this time I think they started around 20 weeks! Also my OB is checking my levels (iron and other stuff) at my appt. next week to make sure that’s not what’s causing them.
  • @iba34 Thanks! I have never used a Neti pot, but I think it’s worth a shot. I will look into it. I have allergy issues also, but combined with pregnancy it’s just getting crazy!

@yosemite2018  I’m sorry you are getting nose bleeds too. You are right about the stupid LA air. I’m glad you are getting your levels checked. I will bring this up to my doctor next time I see her too since it’s gotten so much worse since I first mentioned it several appointments ago.

Last night, I tried putting an ice pack on my nose before bed. Not because it hurt, just to maybe shrink the vessels. It felt really good and seemed to help a little bit. There was less blood this morning than yesterday morning.

@Car0liiine for my cousin it was just a backache, nothing extreme, which is why I'm extra paranoid.

I hear you though. My back is crap, scoliosis, so I struggle even when not pregnant. Tiger balm was a big part of my life 3rd tri last time.

@Car0liiine So glad it's not labor! I hope you get some relief.

@Car0liiine thanks for the update!  Hopefully they can get you some relief at your appointment tomorrow

My doctor wants me to do the GD test in 3 weeks (at 25 weeks). I'm scared to do it because everything sweet makes me throw up. I'm like 90% sure the GD test is going to make me barf, which is both (a) unpleasant and (b) renders the test useless. She told me that I shouldn't be barfing by then so it'll be fine, but also she was surprised I was still barfing now, so that's cold comfort. What should I do? I'm thinking about upping my diclegis dose for a couple days beforehand but I don't know if it'll be enough.

  • nlc8424nlc8424 member
@adirat ugh, that is sucky. Is it the actual tasting of something sweet that makes you throw up or once it hits your stomach your body goes "nope!"? I guess if it were me I would try to take the extra diclegis ahead of time to help a smidge. Also I'd see if they would let you follow it up with something you know you can tolerate that's not carby/starchy.

@nlc8424 It's mostly the taste of sweet things in my mouth that makes me nauseated. A friend mentioned some doctors will let you do the test with something other than the drink... I wonder if that's an option? Or could I brush my teeth immediately after drinking to get the taste out of my mouth?

  • nlc8424nlc8424 member
@adirat I don't see why they wouldn't let you brush your teeth right after. I'm not sure what non-sweet item you would use to test your blood sugar with that will contain enough carbs and be fast acting enough. It could be worth asking about now so you can prepare ahead of time.
  • @adirat I think when they let people substitute something else, it's just a different sugary drink. I can tell you that even without an aversion to sweets, the drink makes me super nauseous. I failed the one hour so I had to do the longer one and it was torture. I had to ask them to find me a room to lie down in and just try to sleep.  Not sure what can be done, but go ahead and let them know as soon as you're feeling sick. I'm sure you're not the first pregnant woman who couldn't keep the drink down.

  • @adirat Hopefully it goes smoothly. Maybe you can call ahead and request a dose of rescue nausea medicine as soon as you chug and brush your teeth? I’m pregnwncy braining but isn’t there a quick fix one that dissolves under your tongue? That way you don’t barf and then have to endure the whole mess again another day.
  • @adirat My practice sent the drinks home with us and we just need to drink it an hour before our appointment. Would being able to start the process at home help at all rather than being stuck in an office with nothing to do but think about how nauseated you are? If that would help, it might be worth asking if you can pick the drink up in advance?

Eep! Sorry to leave you guys hanging, thanks for your concern. @stothi I don't think it was back labor as it was just one side and didn't spread to the front, no tightening of belly and back labor is supposed to be super crazy painful. One person said you just want drugs or the world to end.
I had back labor with DS and I felt like I was being ripped in half. It was horrible and had me begging for an epidural even though I originally didn't want one. This early on it could feel totally different so mentioning it is a good idea, but I'm glad the waves of pain have stopped at least.

That's a good idea as long as brushing your teeth doesn't make you gag. If it does, then try rinsing with mouthwash.
