Re: Symptoms 5/1

  • @chyvie - try taking a cool shower and be sure to talk to your doctor when you get back.  I’m so sorry; being sick on vacation sucks.

@dash83 @estellegetty This happens to me about every 6 months from clenching my jaw while sleeping. Try a mouth guard from the drug store for a few nights and seenifnit goes away. Works every time for me!
  • @chyvie oh no! I'm so sorry you're sick on vacation! That really sucks

@jemmerjams @sliztee @estellegetty thanks for feedback and suggestions, glad I’m not alone in this! I don’t think I’m grinding my teeth, I’m a bit of of mouth breather at night lol, and it seems to get worse in the day. That side of the jaw used to pop from time to time before pregnancy, so maybe a touch of TMJ. I’ll try the mouth guard thing and see if it helps any. And Jemmerjams I’m sure you will look lovely and tough with your mouth guard during labor, don’t mess with  mama lol  ;)
  • I have slight TMJ and had intense jaw pain symptoms in early pregnancy. I also got checked for an ear infection cuz that can feel like jaw pain. Wasn’t that, I got a mouth guard, but eventually it just sent away. It was so so painful I couldn’t even sleep. I hope you feel better soon!
  • @HoosOnFirst I had pretty bad vertigo/dizzy spells in college with my TMD. It was awful! I also remember that sleeping on my side hurt because it put pressure on my ear-I suppose like an ear infection.
  • I have a mouth guard /splint from my dentist for grinding. About 2 months ago my jaw started popping and it never did. My dentist said my splint needed an adjustment so that could have caused it. I can't wear it most nights as I get so congested. Recently went to my chiropractor and she said I have some serious neck issues and it can cause jaw issues so we will see if it gets better as I continue with more adjustments.

Are growth spurts a thing? I feel so uncomfortable today; stomach is tight and stretched out. I can’t really lay on my back anymore, it makes my stomach hurt and I feel kinda lightheaded.
  • Are back spasms a thing right now? Earlier I couldn't bend over without have painful spasms. Similar to the feeling when you hit your elbow. It was right in the middle of my spine, not really sure what caused it.
  • @sliztee - I can’t lay on my back anymore.  I’m okay if my shoulders are propped up a bit, but not when I’m flat.
  • @alexa_94 I had some crazy back spasms with DS and the last week or so I've had some as well.

@sliztee I also can't lay on my back. It sucks and I was hoping to go the full 6 months before this happening because I love laying on my back. If it's making you light headed then you definitely should not be doing it. That is a sign of it cutting of blood flow with your uterus on your main artery. Making a nest to prop up will help.

I had this problem last time with my twins too.  I was typically a stomach sleeper and it eventually ruined that for me too, although I could do that much longer than I could being flat on my back.  I occasionally feel the beginning of issues if I’m too flat now (so I move) but I know eventually I won’t be able to be on my back at all.

Propping one side up on pillows helps too (so say your right side is elevated higher than your left, but you’re still more on your back than your side).  The bigger you get, the more you’ll have to increase the angle, but that’s been helping me deal with it lately.

Thanks, everyone! I'm having quite a bit of back and hip pain when on my side, but mostly sleep that way anyhow. I just like to lay in bed on my back to watch TV :)

No one has any ideas about growth spurts, though? I swear, yesterday I was in so much discomfort and huge all day...today, I'm basically fine. Makes no sense!
  • @chyvie ugh sorry you’re sick on vacation! That’s always the worst. When I was on vacation over Christmas last year, DS caught the flu and got sick on Christmas Day and then spent the rest of our 5 days in NY sick... I feel your pain. Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your time there and feel better!
  •  @HoosOnFirst  + 1 to the itchy boob club!

@sliztee  I absolutely think growth spurts are a thing.  I had that same thing happen to me at week 16 going into 17.  I was soooo uncomfortable that I didnt even eat dinner cuz I felt like if I put anything else in there I would rip at the seams.  Then I woke up the next AM and was like... boom!  Major bumpage.  I felt uncomfy like that for 2-3 days and then all of a sudden I was fine.
  • @sliztee +1 to growth spurts. Some days I feel very stretched and "bloated" feeling and really uncomfortable, and some days I'm totally fine.

Really great to know, @linssears4 and @hannaht8516, thank you!
  • So glad you're feeling better!
  • If you have back or hip pain I definitely recommend the chiropractor.

  • All I can say is I hope none of you guys experience PUPPS. It was so itchy on my belly. I woke up clawing at my stomach. I thought about scratching all day long.It started with a few red bumps then it can go all over your stomach or in my case just up to my belly button and on the sides. I resisted from scratching and it went away, but I'm confident it happened at like 25 or 26 weeks. Just something to look out for. Theres no harm to baby its just miserable.
  • Is anyone else experiencing bad allergies? I’m 14 weeks and don’t remember being really stuffed up until much later in my last pregnancy.. though I guess ‘tis the season. I normally take Claritin but really try to avoid medicating while pregnant if possible so haven’t been. I hate sniffling and sneezing constantly.
  • @sgtpeppers I am in the same boat, I deal with seasonal allergies already and was told that being pregnant only makes them worse.

My tailbone/ back of my pelvis/ lower back hurts so bad I can barely walk! By the time I left work tonight I was in tears. I’m head wait tomorrow and don’t know how I’ll be able to function! I can’t walk, sit, or even lay down without just wanting to cry. It feels like bone grinding on bone then sharp shooting pain when I don’t move super carefully. Is this normal or should I be worried?
    Edit: can’t spell
  • 15+1 today.

Do the migraines ever stop? My daily 2 Tylenol is not cutting it and I get these suckers almost daily now. (Asked my dr 2 weeks ago at last checkup and she said its normal and to stay hydrayed, but I’m losing my mind.)
Odd, I was told by mine that migraines tend to subside when you're pregnant, because though your hormones are high they are stable and not in flux, which is apparently something that can trigger migraines. I do know you can ask your doctor for something you can take while pregnant. She's right about staying hydrated, but as someone that head been to the point of suffering diblitating migraines daily for months on end, I'd say enough is enough, and ask about something for it. Sometimes you have to stand up to doctors or they'll treat you like everyone else and especially female OB/GYN who will sometimes hold you to their tolerance of pain. Make sure not to exaggerate, but be very assertive with the amount of pain you are in. I've had two completely different experiences between the male OB I saw and the female one. The male pointed out since I have a back tilting uterus hearing the heartbeat in the beginning was probably going to be hard, that they'd try, but not to be worried if we didn't hear it. Had the female OB the next time I went in and told her what the last OB said, she says "nonsense" she found it alright, after jamming it so hard into my pelvis that it left a bruise and I was in a considerable amount of pain while she did it, which she ignored.

@momoflogan20 I didn’t have PUPPS but I had some other hormonal rash last time at around 25 weeks til the end HOLY SHIZ I have never been so uncomfortable in my entire life!!! I lived in oatmeal baths, my husband literally
painted calamine lotion on me with a giant paint brush, but the only thing that really helped was a steroid cream my dermatologist gave me. I am REALLY REALLY hoping that I don’t get any kind of rash this time. Fingers crossed for all!!!

  • @jynjer91 Unfortunately that sounds like sciatica to me. The only thing I've found to help with it is to do some light stretches. I had it for months during my last pregnancy. Sorry there isn't more that can help with that! It's miserable, I know..

My allergies are horrible year round, spring and fall being the worst time. I take zyrtec daily, I wouldn't be able to function without it. Although, I'm much more congested this year then normal.
  • I am having some mid back pain. Some people suggested sciatica, but my pelvis, butt and legs feel fine, it really is just my mid back, like almost at boob level. Can't tell if I've pulled something or its pregnancy related but it's sore and annoying

@kiwi2628 I have to ask my Dr still but Dr. Google said it might be from your run cage expanding to make room for baby and two ribs moved together instead of apart and are pitching a nerve.
I have been experiencing almost the same spot in my back and can't get any relief from it. Sitting sucks, laying down sucks, standings ok but who wants to stand all day?
  • @sgtpeppers I have seasonal allergies and they were definitely a little bit worse with DS. But this time its 10× worse! It's all my usual symptoms just magnified. I'm miserable! I haven't taken anything yet. I debating if I want to or not.

I had the same problem @ 14-15 weeks.  They went away within a week.
  • @kiwi2628 middle back pain started around this time with my last pregnancy. It seemed to be posture related, especially if I sat too long. I’ve started to notice it creeping in this week.

I have had congestion but I don't have allergies. Normal pregnancy symptom :) but of course doesn't happen to everyone.
  • @kiwi2628 I recently started having some back pain higher up. I honestly think it’s a combo of my giant pregnancy boobs and everything moving upward. Like @cdepperschmidt mentioned, mine seems better if I keep my posture in check and take breaks when I’m cleaning/walking. I will say it is one of the things making it most uncomfortable to sleep right now though!
