Pregnant after IF

Bra talk

ok so I’m only 8 weeks, but I’ve definitely put on some weight since being on so many hormones for so long and I stopped going to the gym before the transfer bc I was scared. So now I feel like my boobs have either gotten bigger or they’re swollen. Either way, I need some new bras! I’ve always only worn Victoria’s Secret bras because I feel like they give the best support, but am now wondering if I should give a different brand a try? Is there some secret pregnancy bra that will hold these suckers up?

Re: Bra talk

  • Nursing bra wise, the Bravado bras are the BEST. Lots of different styles, convert to regular bras after and most are compatible with hands free pumping bras. I love mine. I wore them through my pregnancy, during the short bit of nursing and all the pumping months and still...I wear them. I have a few diff styles

  • I hate Victoria's secret bras. So much more support with Freya. No matter what brand, make sure you get fitted. Don't just rely on going up a bit from your current size.

  • I wish I had some advice but at 32 weeks everywhere on my body has grown except my boobs argh lol. I’m still in the same bras as before. I did order some nice nursing bras off amazon. More support like sports type bras.

  • I'm in the same boat as @Holls214 no change in cup size, I did add an extender for comfort though. I would go to Nordstrom and get fitted or The motherhood Dept at Macy's and check out the nursing bras. I have 1 maternity/nursing bra I bought in the first tri and I've yet to even try it on. :/ I'm sure I'll need it soon

  • I still fit into a few of my regular bras (33w 3d), but since I usually wear a D cup, all my bras have a wire support. So I looked for a more comfortable version without the wire. Bought one maternity bra from Target, and then a few stretchy nursing bras and camis from amazon. They do feel more comfortable when lounging on the couch, but then boobs seem to "seep down" a little when walking, and I have to constantly re-adjust. I also found a little but of sagging after wearing those softer bras for a few weeks, so I'm going back to my wired bras for now, and will  keep shipping for the nursing bra options.

  • These are what I bought. Great for home comfort (so I'm looking for using them with the new baby at home), but don't work as comfortable (at least for my 36D size) for out and about support.

  • @FuzzyDust I have two nursing bras with underwire and one soft one. I wear the underwire ones all the time and the soft one only rarely. I'm now an H due to nursing and can't go without support. The underwire ones are more comfortable for me.

  • persnickity what brand are your wired bras?

Soma. The soma nursing bras are amazing!! I'm between an F and G since nursing and getting this surprise bfp. Soma has great support even in their wireless bras.

    Edit: autocorrect hates me.

  • @FuzzyDust one is freya and the other panache. The soft one is also panache. The Freya is my favorite.

  • My cup size didn’t change during the pregnancy at all. Not until my milk came in and I was pumping. Even then, they were just fuller, didn’t really jump in size much!

  • These are great recommendations!!

I usually wear bras from Victoria's Secret too but couldn't stomach spending so much money on new bras when I didn't know how big my cup size would be. I bought 2 Playtex nursing bras from Kohl's, going one size up, but I still feel like they're tight around my ribs so I'm thinking of getting a bra extender. I just bought 2 nursing sports bras from Walmart, and I'm waiting to buy nursing tanks.

I would suggest motherhood maternity. You can get good bras that are already nursing ones (underwire, padding, everything) in case you need that size nursing bras for much cheaper than VS. also they have much more of a size range! (Pre pregnancy I was a 32DDD, during I was a 34G, so I GET the need for support!)
  • @persnickity I am having trouble figuring out the sizing for Freya...
    https://www.freyalingerie.com/advice/quick-facts.aspx#size
How come I don't see any actual measurements???
  • @BusinessWife do you know your size in US sizes? If so, use the international chart at the bottom of that page. Otherwise, you can find how to take measurements here: https://www.barenecessities.com/feature.aspx?pagename=fit_sizing
I went into a specialty store near me and was fitted there. I got to try them before buying.

@persnickity  Thank you!  Yeah, I definitely need to be remeasured, (or take them myself), because I just have no idea anymore.  I know what size I used to wear! Lol  but I dont know now, since I've been wearing extenders since first tri, and now noticing more and more a boob-gap appearing underneath the cups as the day goes along.  :#  Hopefully something better-fitting will help!

ETA ...and I've gotten a couple different measurements trying myself already! Lol I may try again later and/or ask DH to help.  Or maybe break down and go in somewhere for a fitting. Thanks!
  • @BusinessWife go somewhere! If you have a specialty bra store near you, go there. Otherwise, see if your hospital has a store for nursing bras or masectomy patients. They can better measure you then Victoria's secret.

@businesswife I totally agree with @persnickity, getting a fitting at a specialty store is so worthwhile, especially if you haven't been measured in a while / size changes in pregnancy. The specialty store I go to in NYC has such helpful staff, and they don't charge outrageously either (fitting is free with purchase, and they sell bras for the sticker price).

  • I have no boobs (nursing made me a lopsided A/B) so if anyone else is in that boat, I love h&m nursing bras. No underwire but a lace detailed top of it in case it’s showing with a shirt (my son likes to grab at my boobs and shirt so this is a valid issue lol).

  • We did a labor and delivery class over the weekend, and apparently there is a baby store in the hospital, where one can get a bra after the delivery (since the size might change quiet a bit once the milk starts coming in). The do the fitting and all too :)
