We did a long weekend to Vegas/Death Valley last month, and will do a family camping trip this summer. For any future babymoons though, i am just going to have @kiwi2628 plan it, because obviously she is doing it right. Once baby #2 is old enough to hang with grandma & grandpa for a weekend, we will probably attempt to go to British Columbia because its on my husbands bucket list. (post-baby moon?)
We went to Japan last Spring for our honeymoon so hubby and I decided to keep the babymoon stateside and less adventurous. Just booked a week to Glacier National Park in May which we are excited for! Haven't been there and I've heard from coworkers it's beautiful. Figured we could get some minor hiking in before I get too big and uncomfortable and also want to catch the glacier before it all melts cuz y'know, global warming.
Not really a babymoon since son will be with us and we are going for a wedding. We are going to California (my hometown) for 5 days then to salt lake City for 4 days to visit friends whom we've been promising for a while that we will visit. In Cali, we will be in OC then do a day trip to Disneyland (i worked there and have friends who are corporate so we will get in for free ) then go to San Diego (sister lives there and I went to undergrad there). So not really anything new but still a travel.
We are going to New York in July to visit bil who's moving there for a medical fellowship . Thats it.
For our first, we went to Hawaii as our babymoon. it was awesome.
Not a baby moon as family will be with us be doing a week in Austin, TX. Open to suggestions on what to do it anyone is from around that area. Live music/bars aren't our thing and I know Austin is known for music.
With my first we did a babymoon to Orlando (we're from Canada, so anywhere warmer was our goal!!) DH sister was living there at the time so we stayed with her to save money and took it easy. It was really nice.
This time around we were supposed to go to a friends wedding this past week in Curacao, but Zika ruined that for us.
So far we have a cottage week planned in July which will be nice but no big trips planned.
We just did an impromptu 'babymoon' road trip - i.e. we realized we should do that before I got too big to sit comfortably in a car for so long. We went down to hike the redwood forest (we're from BC) and then drove back up the coastal highway. We may also do a weekend in Seattle, and may go visit family in Alberta this summer.
Pics from our road trip in spoiler, because I'm sure they are huge
@kiwi2628 how did you like Croatia?? We have been thinking about Hawaii, but then I was thinking Croatia might be a better choice in June? Would love to hear your thoughts.
We just booked 4 nights in the Berkshires for the first week of August. It's a babymoon/wedding anniversary trip. My dad's family is from Boston and cape cod area, but I've never been to western MA so this should be exciting and relaxing.
@SweetSweetTooth have you already gone? Wimberley is AMAZING. There's a lot of places to shop and eat, and it's an adorable small town. Also, if you can go over to Kyle for a few hours (between Austin & San Marcos, right off of 35), you need to go to the Texas Pie Company because their pies are sooooo good. I make sure to go every time I visit my family (they live in Kyle, we live north of Dallas).
Originally I’d said we weren’t going to do anything besides our little family trip coming up, but I decided I needed a real night away. So we booked a hotel in Laguna Beach right on the sand. It’s just one night and only 20 minutes from home, but it’ll be the first time I’m leaving DS overnight so I figured we’d start small. I’m so looking forward to 24 hours of doing what I want without having to take care of anyone/anything else. We justified it as my combo Mother’s Day/birthday gift and are going the beginning of June.
@tlmill I have been to San Antonio by myself. Dh has not been there. Our Austin trip is coming up I will have to look into those places! Thank you!! Only pie I like is French silk... Dh loves all kids of pie
My husband and I just booked a week in Kaua’i late June/ early July. I’m excited for the warm tropical air and water, winter seemed to drag on forever here in WA state! We would have loved to visit Mexico or Central America, but the threat of Zika takes them off the table for the foreseeable future.
My DH and I booked 4 nights in Charleston, SC for later in May. We’ve never been so I’m very excited. I’ve already been booked for some pampering while we are there, at his urging. I usually never splurge on anything but I let him plan the hotel and some activities and he doesn’t want to hold back since it has been so long since we’ve been on a vacation. It’s a good thing I’m the polar opposite! Would love any suggestions if anyone has been there or lives there.
My parents are taking both my kids for six days this summer but DH and I are staying home as he has to work and we have some plans to clean and organize the crawl space/garage before baby comes and being kid free is an opportune time to do it. We’re planning on doing a few nice dinners out and then spending a night or two in a hotel at the end of the week in the Okanagan which is where we will meet up with my parents to get the kids back since it’s about halfway between us.
And then we are also hoping to sneak away for a night at the hot springs when we visit my parents at the end of summer.
Beyond those few nights though no big babymoon planned - with two kids and DHs work schedule the logistics won’t allow for it but we didn’t really do anything big for either of the other two either and I don’t feel we missed out. This time around getting any time alone, even if it’s at home, seems like a big deal!
Awesome @pumpkinpancake ! Any suggestions on good preggo friendly swimming beaches? We are staying on the east side, coconut coast area. The beach in front of our hotel isn’t great for swimming from what it sounds like. Already bought some cute tropical maxi dress, plenty of room for the growing bump
@dash83 we actually stayed on the east side too (Anahola) and our favorite beach to go to was Anini beach on the north shore. The water there was super calm becuase it’s reef protected, and the beach had tons of shady areas to stay cool and not get sunburned. There’s not big waves, so it’s not good if you’re into the more active water sports, but it’s great for snorkeling. We snorkeled there and I got to swim up close to a huge sea turtle! It was awesome!
We didnt really venture out to too many other beaches for swimming, but when we stopped by Poipu beach in the south, it also looked like it would have been good for swimming. It was much more crowded though, so we stuck with Anini.
We had a two-week trip through Germany, Austria, and a stop in Prague planned for last fall before we started trying to conceive. It was a combination of a work opportunity (freelance) for me and a vacation, and we had all the hotels booked and the trip mapped out, but waited on flights since the fella was interviewing for a new job. Well, he got the job and decided to take it, so we moved to California instead and spent our vacation money on the rent increase. :P
I photographed an event in Vancouver in January, and fella joined me at the end of it, and we went to Victoria for a few days, which was where he proposed in 2015. So that ended up being our last little vacation hurrah full of oysters and wine and local beer before getting pregnant.
We are getting our feet back under us now and my business is starting to do okay, so we booked a babymoon to Maui and we leave at the end of next week. Fella's job has been stressing him out lately, so I actually think it's more important to him to get away and decompress. I'm looking forward to photographing gorgeous landscapes and napping in the sun. Oh and the prenatal massage at the hotel spa...already booked that!!
@kiwi2628 - Have fun in London! My parents and I went to the UK last year, and it was awesome. We were only in London a few days, but never stopped moving.
Pro-tips - if you want to do the Eye (giant ferris wheel), then get your tickets online in advance. If you want to do the changing of the guard, get there an hour to an hour and a half in advance and try to stand just to the left of the main gates.
@knottieamusements Ive actually been to London twice (and my husband probably a dozen), so we are actually skipping most of the stuff we have done before (all the touristy stuff basically) and just relaxing, seeing some friends that live there and maybe going out into the country for a bit
@melbo444@chopchop25 Where did you guys stay (or are planning stay) when on Maui? Hawaii is one of the places we are thinking of going, so just curious what you guys did. Thanks!
@texaninla we stayed at the Westin in Ka’anapali. It’s sort of like suites you can rent out which was awesome because we landed, picked up a rental car, stopped at the grocery, then made our home for the week. Spent a few days pool and beach side, and a few days hiking and exploring the other town beaches, farmers markets, etc. We tried all the fish tacos possible, did the crater for sunrise, walked the entire boardwalk, and took it easy for sunsets. Would have liked to do a touristy luau and catamaran to see sea turtles but too many dietary restrictions in our group and rough surf took both of those off the table. Let me know if you go-definitely have some beach and restaurant recs!
Can I just get a solo babymoon to like a local hotel or something? I want 24 hours to myself without anybody touching me or standing next to me in the bathroom while I pee.

@chopchop25 Thanks! That sounds so lovely!! I will definitely let you know if we book it. Flights seem pricey to go in June or July, but I’m going to keep looking!
@texaninla we’re staying at Hotel Wailea, which is adults-only. So worth it - total peace and quiet. Kinda pricey but we’re going for it - with this being our second kid, it will probably be a while before grandma and grandpa will be cool to watch two kids, especially a baby and a toddler.
@texaninla when we went to Maui we stayed in lahaina at an Airbnb condo that had a kitchen. It was great location as it's pretty Central to all the main tourist areas and has a good night life/ restaurant scene with happy hours for evenings out when you want to stumble home. Was cheaper than staying at a fancy hotel and going to fancy restaurants all the time. Some Airbnb comes with cars too! We loved Maui! Make sure you drive the entire island as there is a lot to see and do!

DH keeps changing his mind on what he wants to do, (Montana to see his brother, Nashville to go to a race, NC to see friends and family) and doesn't think he'd be able to get time off so as of now I'm saying we aren't doing anything. The last thing he mentioned (not baby moon related but doing something) didn't involve me at all so I'll probably take a mini trip to visit a friend in outerbanks by myself! @tlmill I say book the hotel!! Every one needs a solo spa and relaxation day with nothing and no one to bother them!
@chopchop25@texaninla -- we are staying at the Westin Ka'anapali too, actually! Fella has a ton of Marriott/Starwood points from a boatload of work travel last year, so it's all on points for us, which is sweeeeet. We are planning to drive to Hana, eat a lot of seafood, and I want to sleep on some pretty beaches. We wanted to do the crater sunrise, but I tried to book an entrance too late, and it's sold out. I think they release a few entrances the day before, though, or maybe the concierge has some tour slots available if we decide we really want to do it.
@melbo I think more get released 3 days before for the crater. And if the weather isn’t supposed to be great, save yourself the early rise time!
Other unsolicited thoughts (I’m reminiscing now...)
Highly highly highly recommend Big Beach...it’s seriously one of the prettiest beaches I think I have ever seen and certainly our favorite on Maui (didn’t hurt that whales were also migrating by while we were there, but it’s GORGEOUS.) If you Head that way, check out Kihei cafe for breakfast. Such a fun, casual spot with good food and HUGE portions, and then you can head straight to the beach. There are some good fish tacos on the way back at Coconuts, too.
Also, head to the Westin property next door for the mini sunset ceremony...it’s short but fun!
Also cannot recommend enough the Costco/Walmart run when you land. It’s right by the airport and you can stock your place up with snacks and stuff. There’s even grills downstairs if you want to cook for yourselves one night (we didn’t, but it was nice to have munchies that weren’t hotel priced.)
