Hey there! New girl here...

hi! New girl here. I’m 29 and my husband is 32. Been TTC for 21 months. We just had our first appt at our RE last week. Was supposed to get my period 2-3 days later.. it didn’t show. RE sent me for bloodwork this morning— called and said it showed I didn’t ovulate this month. I’ve been doing OPK for 6-8 mos and never not ovulated. Not really sure what’s going on. RE prescribed Provera for 10 days. Not really sure what’s next. Husband went for SA today.

Best of luck to you!! I don't ovulate on my own usually and OPK's always told it was ovulation time, so you can't 100% rely on them when it comes to that. They mainly just tell you when you have a high LH surge. I always got that and would never release an actual egg. Period, etc were always normal, so had no idea anything was really wrong.

Welcome! I also don't ovulate on my own and OPKs for me were always inaccurate. There are so many different options if you're just starting that they can do to help. Good luck!

Welcome! Same as others never ovulated on my own either so the testing strips never worked. Even while on meds it’s still inaccurate so rather depend on doctors bloodwork and ultrasounds. Good luck hopefully you get some answers with further testing.

How do they know whether or not you actually O'd?  I've been TTC for 12 months and haven't done OPK many times, but it always showed LH surge, and AF came 2 weeks later.  So far, the tests they did came back pretty normal (lowish AMH but not scary low) so we're unexplained, but I'm wondering what test tells them whether or not you actually O'd.  TIA!

They have to do a blood test that will show a certain level to show if you ovulated or not. I wish I remember what it’s called but it’s been 7 years since I’ve done it.

Can’t they tell by progesterone if you O’d or not?

I’m not sure what specific thing they tested for, but the nurse said that they could tell that I definitely had no ovulated this past month.

I think they’re looking for a rise in progesterone. If it’s below a certain number they presume no O.

Hopefully the most easy solution of using a trigger shot will help. Or even doing a medicated cycle to help follies grow more quickly might work.   Hope the less invasive stuff works, but good to always keep in mind that you may eventually have to escalate to IVF at some point in time. That’s what happened for me.

I don't ovulate on my own either and I don't get my period regularly. RE put me on Provera (currently on day 4) and then it's clomid once AF comes! I'm surprised your RE didn't give you a more concrete plan! I would definitely ask some more questions so that you can feel like you have a little more control with the extra knowledge. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
