How's the first trimester treating everyone this week?

1. How far along are you?

2. How are you feeling?

3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?)

Re: Weekly Symptoms Thread - Week of 4.8

  • 1. How far along are you?
    5 weeks 2 days!

    2. How are you feeling?
Pretty okay! Which, obviously, terrifies me even though I logically know it shouldn't, haha. I do have very sore breasts, I'm tired, and I had a very mild wave of nausea this morning after having iced tea, but I'm definitely not in the throes of first trimester awfulness yet. I have been starving and enjoying some cravings - I mostly had aversions in previous pregnancies, so this is a fun treat. So far: dill pickles, olives (green and black), potato salad and cranberry juice. (Weird.)

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?)
Nothing really helped a LOT with my first, but I found sea bands (acupressure wristbands) cut the nausea but maybe 10%? And I was so nauseous, I was thrilled with that. I had to wear them very tight though. Sour candy for the bad taste I kept getting in my mouth, but really it was just a waiting game and nothing did much but the passage of time. Boo. Hopefully this time some of the tricks will work!

  • 1. How far along are you?
    5 weeks 5 days :)

    2. How are you feeling?
I'm still feeling pretty good overall. I haven't experienced any morning sickness yet, but I've heard that it can start ramping up in Week 6. I haven't had any food aversions either, but I have been kind of more into goldfish crackers than normal over the past week. My breasts are just starting to get a little sore, but my nipples have been sensitive and sore for over a week now. I have felt some twinges in my lower belly kind of like a stretching or pulling sensation. I do get out of breath and tired easily. I have gotten a few headaches too. I finally purchased some Tylenol and took one even though I was trying to make it through the first trimester without taking any medications (besides prenatals). My first OB appointment is May 8th and I am beyond excited for that. I believe we get an ultrasound! That is going to be crazy.

    3. As a FTM, has anyone given you any good suggestions?
Mostly, I've been told to relax and just enjoy the ride. There is so much to be worried and anxious about, especially when you don't have many symptoms and don't feel much of anything going on, but I am trying to trust that my baby is doing what it's supposed to. I guess, no news is good news in this situation. It is nice to hear from other FTMs and moms with kiddos that what I'm going through is normal. That has helped a lot.

    2. How are you feeling?
Super bloated and constipated. The nausea started really badly this morning. I'm exhausted and I can't sleep through the night without waking up. Also, I keep getting random fits of anxiety, and I'm getting quite a bit of cramping, which isn't helping, since I'm terrified of miscarriage! I'm still having trouble feeling excited and this still doesn't feel real to me.

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?)
I am VERY open to some survival tips for the anxiety and digestive issues :) I'm a first time mom!!

    1. How far along are you?

    6 weeks 1 day

    2. How are you feeling?

Not that good... I’m super tired and nauseated. The nausea is growing every week and today I felt sick for the first time. I’m also super bloated, so I know how you feel, @angela0822

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?)

I’m a fist time mom but I can share that cold water with lime helps my nausea! Also, yesterday I had my first ultrasound and hearing the heartbeats really helped to decrease my anxiety! It’s so awesome!

  • 1. How far along are you?
4 weeks 6 days or so

    2. How are you feeling?
today, pretty dang good. My nips have been sore for over a week and that is easing up, last week was lots of mild crampiness/achiness in my ute area and that has also lessened. I've been tire the last few days, but i also haven't been sleeping well. Not sure it any of it is pregnancy related. Of course, have some anxiety about lessening symptoms (I feel you, @maureenmce ) but trying to remind myself that it's normal to have fluctuations and there is no reason to think anything is wrong.

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?) FTM so nope! Hoping to ride this wave of feeling pretty good for a bit longer!
  • @mhobbes So exciting you had a great ultrasound! I noticed you said heartbeats - are you expecting twins??

    1. 5 weeks 5 days.

    2. I honestly don't feel all that bad.  The only really tangible symptom I have is that my boobs hurt and feel huge and heavy.  They are already quite big so I feel like an absolute cow.  I don't even want to know how big and uncomfortable they are going to get.  I will probably end up at my lingerie shop in 6 months sobbing for them to help me.  Not looking forward to it.

Still waiting on that nausea to hit.

***Edit:  I have also been getting those pinching/stretching sensations in the lower abdomen.  I find that not making too sudden of movements, like not standing up too quickly, helps keep them at bay.

    3. I haven't gotten too much advice yet since I've only told my mom and dad.  And husband of course.

How far along are you? 5 and 2

How are you feeling? Fine, except this cold I have is kicking my butt. I’m going on 4 days of real laryngitis. I also have insomnia. So by fine I mean no nausea.

    first trimester survival tips?
Half a unison and b12 were so helpful every night when I had nausea with ds1 and ds2.
  • 1. How far along are you? 4+ 3 I think.

    2. How are you feeling? I feel ok. Random twinges which are unnerving. I think I'm mostly terrified for morning sickness while caring for a toddler. With my first it completely knocked me on my ass.

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?) Last time starlight mints where the only thing I could stand while sick. I lost like 20 lbs my first trimester.
  • 1. How far along are you?
4w2d.  Got my BFP a week ago today so I feel like I should be further along, the curse of testing early.

    2. How are you feeling?
Pretty normal so far.  Boobs are a little sore and having what I think is occasional RLP when I cough/sneeze or move too fast but it seems like it should be too early for that?  Not my 1st pregnancy though.

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?)
If MS is bad try to snack continuously.  If you let yourself get hungry the nausea kicks in, and then you really don’t feel like eating.  I carried those applesauce pouches around with me, they’re good in a fix for a quick pick me up.

  • 1. How far along are you? 5 weeks 3 days

    2. How are you feeling? Decent. Mostly just experiencing fatigue. I do get winded at times. I did have some major bloat the last couple of days. This morning I was having trouble with going from laying/sitting to standing without feeling light headed.
Mostly I am feeling excited and anxious for my first appointment which isn't for another 3 weeks!

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?) I don't really have any suggestions. With my son, I didn't really have much as far as symptoms go (aside from diabetes related stuff). I'm just hoping that this time around I am just as lucky :)

    2. I’m feeling ok. Very tired the last couple of days and moody, which isn’t normal for me. I think my husband must be a saint at this point. He says this is how I was last time too haha. I was getting period type cramps but the last day they seem to have gone away. Those are very nerve racking so I’m glad. Still peeing on sticks every day!  :#:#

    3. I’m not sure I have any tips. I was one of the lucky ones last time and never got morning sickness. Hoping for the same this time.  I would say make sure you’re eating even when you don’t feel like it (I tend to skip breakfast frequently) and drinking LOTS of water. I find if I’m even a little dehydrated it effects me a lot. Also agree @PensiveCrayon Google is the devil at this stage.

    1. How far along are you?
     4 weeks 4 days

    2. How are you feeling?
Feeling pretty tired. I've been having cramps every day since 4weeks 1day, which at first made me think I was having a miscarriage (they feel the same as when I last miscarried) but so far no blood! I've been taking pregnancy tests and the line is getting darker so I'm assuming everything is fine and it must just be my uterus expanding?? I have sore breasts every now and then but nothing severe! I am super bloated! And have felt nauseous every now and then, but I don't know if that's just in my head?

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on?
First time mom, so I'm listening to the advice of everyone on here :)

  • 1. How far along are you? 6 weeks today

    2. How are you feeling? Meh. Woke up incredibly tired. Have had pretty bad nausea the last couple of days. Constipated. Bloated. Sorry boobs.

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?) Fiber gummies for constipation, Unisom Sleep tabs and B6 for nausea, the Unisom also helps me sleep at night.

  • 1. No idea, 4-5 weeks

    2. So freaking tired today. I may go to bed early lol. Also, started feeling carsick because of hills, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I've always had issues as a passenger, but usually if I'm the one driving I have no issues. So I stocked up on granola bars and PB crackers for my desk at work as snacks. Also sore boobs, getting a little more sore each day :/

    3. I didn't find out with DS until I was 7.5 weeks...by that point I was just thinking "NO WONDER I've been so damn tired!" Lol. But I was also a lucky one who didn't have morning sickness, just very mild nausea while working out.

    2. How are you feeling?
Overall alright. I had four days off from work so I'm getting ready to go back tomorrow. Booo. A little nausea, some stomach pain/cramps, tired but I also have a toddler so he wears me out too.
    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?) My first go around was none stop nausea the whole 1st tri; Ginger-ale, water-down gatorade, gatorade ice cubes, snacks (those pop chips, popcorn, anything not greasy) helped with my upset tummy. Take naps and I'm with @PensiveCrayon STAY AWAY FROM GOOGLE. It's the worse thing ever. I kept a journal with my first pregnancy and I went back and read some of it last night and there was somethings I total forgot about it there.

Happy.  I love being pregnant, so far.  I have a sore chest and a few days last week I would wake up with the pit of my stomach so empty feeling.  I definitely am getting an enhanced sense of smell.... and am totally disgusted by a lot of smells. I assume that's normal?

  • 1. How far along are you?

    6 weeks today

    2. How are you feeling?

So so tired. My ribs and lower back have been achy. Headaches. My heart rate has been way higher then normal and keep getting winded. Heartburn. Feeling really depressed and anxious. Slight cramping. Not exactly constipated but having some digestive issues. Extreme bloating and feeling overall uncomfortable. This pregnancy is kicking my butt so far and I'm only 6 weeks in lol. I do have days where all of a sudden I feel better and no symptoms and those are scary but I'm learning to enjoy the small break. (End rant lol)

    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?)

You know, this is my fourth pregnancy (1 miscarriage, 7 year old rainbow, 1 other miscarriage and now currently) and I have zero advice besides sleep as much as you can. I didn't have symptoms with my two losses and I honesot dont remember much about my son's pregnancy, that was 8 years ago now so I'm useless here lol.
  • @mckcak23 thank you! I’m going to check that out!
  • 1. How far along are you?

    2. How are you feeling?
For the most part, totally fine. Though, very sore breasts, mild cramping, a cute little breakout on my chin, and oh so tired -- I really miss that afternoon cup of coffee! No nausea or morning sickness yet.

    3. First time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?
Stop googling and stop looking into miscarriage statistics. This is my first pregnancy and the fear is real.

TIRED! I can't stay awake anymore. Few dizzy spells. Bit of nausea if I don't get something in my belly within 20 mins of  waking up. Sore boobs.
    3. Do you have any 1st trimester survival tips you rely on? (Or if a first time mom, has anyone given you good suggestions?) Eat. Even when you're not hungry eat every couple hours. It helps keeps nausea at bay. And make sure to have a juice box or something of the sorts on hand if you get dizzy. Bit of juice will bring your sugars back up and help (it's common for sugars or blood pressure to drop a lot with the increased blood flow)
  • @runrinserepeat my close friend uses peppermint essential oils for her migraines and it actually really helps since she was taking migraine medication all day for her migraines and they wouldn’t go completely away. Definitely try it!

Fine actually. Last week I had the worst bouts of exhaustion. So far I feel okay except having to get up slower to avoid the ligament pinches. I have crazy dreams every night and have not been able to do as much as I normally do physically... definitely have to take breaks as my back starts to really hurt.

Nap is posisble and eat lots of snacks- healthy snacks so that your energy is up!:) Also try to get some form of exercise in. I found in my first pregnancy that when I was nauseous walking really helped even though it was the last thing I wanted to do. It also really helps with your energy!
