Questions 4/6

Re: Questions 4/6

  • I’ll probably register at Target, BBB and Amazon.  The only things we need are a car seat, stroller & diapers.  I’m doing it more for the completion bonus than anything else and registering at those 3 will let me price shop. It will be a bonus if anybody wants to get this baby anything big, but I doubt they will since it’s the 3rd & 5th grandchild for our families.

  • @jennybean80 jealous!!!

Thanks ladies, those of you that have done target...did you like it? I'm not close to a BBB, so that's out of the question. I'm tempted to do amazon because we buy most of our stuff from there and we're prime members ( and like @kiwi2628 says their prices are always the best) but I'm mostly doing it for the older family members and I'm thinking they'll want to go to brick and mortar store.

  • I’m registered at Target, Amazon and Buy Buy Baby.  I also registered with Babylist, but am using that more as a centralized wish list for stuff I find at other sites like Etsy or Wayfair.
  • @knottieamusements you can add items from other sites to your Amazon registry. You just need to install the Amazon assistant plug in.

  • Any FTMs planning on doing anything for Mother's day? If so, what? I was definitely thinking of getting SO a nice watch he's been talking about for Father's day this year. I'm thinking he'll probably take me out to dinner.. kinda wanna ask for a manicure lol.
  • @lovelycrookedfox So ask for a manicure! Or better yet, a spa day ;)
  • cjx95cjx95 member
I'm not gonna hold any standards for mothers day and if something happens it'll be a pleasant surprise(: but there's a 50% chance I'll be working it 8 hours from home so I'm not worried about mothers day yet lol
  • I doubt it...hubby probably thinks mother's/Father's day is dumb not sure ha
  • Lol my DH forgot Valentine’s Day this year. Not holding out any hope that he’ll remember Mother’s Day. My own mom is more likely to remember and send me a message!
  • I may be the odd one out but I didnt celebrate Mother’s Day till after he was here.

    Same here.
  • Same here. Didn't celebrate mother's/Father's day until after our first son was born.
My husband bought me a swell tumbler bottle. I've been wanting one but I have so many water bottles that I couldn't justify it. Well it came in the mail and my 2 yo son thinks every box is for him. He brought it to me and said "open present". Hah so it was spoiled but I love it! :)

I bought my husband tickets to the Detroit tigers vs White Sox game on the peanut free allergy day (son is allergic to all nuts). It always sells out so quickly every year so I bought it and I stupidly had it sent to his email too :( so I spoiled it today. He loved it though :)
  • I don't think we will do anything special this year. Normally DH and SS get me a card and something small for Mother's Day. SS is with his bio-mom that day, so I enjoy having a day to myself and do what I'd like.

    Same.
  • Not sure if we will celebrate or not. I used the excuse that I am a mother now so we weren't going to spend the whole day wrapped around his mom's schedule. Now we are going to be out of town and DH says celebrating on any day but mother's day for his mom is no big deal... He was making it a big deal originally!!
Glad mother's day is first so he sets the standard of if we are doing anything for one another before baby is here. Lol
  • RE: prenatals - I had no problems with any prenatals with my first two. This time, everything was making me sick - the free prescription ones, non prescription ones and even just iron by itself. I did some research and found a lot of people recommended CVS brand with DHA, so I tried it and I’ve had no problems since. Good thing too bc they were buy one get one free.

Also, We didn’t celebrate mother’s/father’s day until baby was here.
  • Any FTMs planning on doing anything for Mother's day?
I’m spending Mother’s Day with my Mom.   :)

I’ve been after her for a few years to come to St. Louis that weekend each year because there is a local art fair thatI think she would really enjoy.

For myself as a future Mom?  Nope, no special plans.
  • Can I use Digestzen from Doterra? I'm not sure if should or not.

  • @coffee-saur Plant Therapy (an oil company I highly trust) recommends no oil usage during 1st Trimester. Peppermint can be okay if used sparingly.

My recommendation would be to either contact the company, an aromatherapist or research the individual oils in the blend. If there's one oil in the blend not recommended for pregnancy you shouldn't use the blend.
  • Just looking up what's in it from their site it contains Tarragon Plant and Fennel Seed, both of which are listed as oils to avoid during pregnancy.

@sammierose464 thanks a bunch! I have just gotten started with DoTerra oils and know very little about what to use for what. That chart will be great!

Does it have why not to use it? I used some of the Digestzen before I knew I was pregnant and right at first before my brain caught up with me and I thought I should probably check if this is ok first! It's been awhile since I even thought of using some.

  • We do brunch every year with DH’s family for Mother’s Day. This year my parents are coming for the weekend so we are going to do a small gender reveal at brunch... which means I need to keep it a secret from now till then! I have very low confidence in myself.

I have a book at home that I can look up those two oils for you tonight. I just started last fall, but I'm really big on using them safely. I'm in a few groups on FB that I get my info from, primarily Safe Use of Edens Garden Essential Oils. While they mostly use EG oils (my other favorite next to Plant Therapy), they speak to a lot of the safety and usage of oils in general.
  • @sammierose464 that would be awesome, but don't worry about it if it's a pain for you! The books I have from Doterra don't have anything about what to avoid when pregnant. I will have to go check online and see if they have info on their site.

  • SS was 12 when my H and I got engaged, so I've been celebrating Mother's Day ever since that ring went on my finger. I've had him on Mother's Day every other year so far and they usually take me to lunch or a movie. I love it when my SS plans the day out for me.

I didn't have him last year, so we celebrated a week early since DS was here. I don't remember what we did, probably not much since DS was only 7 months old. On the actual day, DH took me and DS to the zoo.

Mother's Day falls on our weekend this year, so there's a good chance SS's mom will have to work. I'd never fight her for that day though since I don't care all that much.

  • Ok how is everyone working around their bigger belly with their laptops? I am trying to balance it between my knee and arm of the couch to keep pressure off the belly. Not ideal though.

You can also google those two oils and read some of what comes up. From what I was seeing there wasn't much of "what might happen" rather more of "you should avoid it". It seems that there just hasn't been a ton of research on the impact and there's certain reactions from the oils that can be of concern. Like Cleary Sage is a GREAT fertility oil. However, it's not recommend during pregnancy because it can cause pre-term labor. It is recommended during your labor process though. My hair dresser told me they taught her in beauty school to avoid lavender with pregnant women because the calming effects could possibly calm the baby too much and reduce heart rate. I want to start using my tranquil oil again at night, so I need to email Plant Therapy.

Edit to add this resource as I found it very helpful: https://www.planttherapy.com/blog/2016/12/27/pregnancy-and-nursing-safety-part-1/
  • @SweetSweetTooth I used to have TV trays in my living room that worked great when I was on my laptop in the living room. They're like $10 at Walmart

  • What's the thought on pre-cut fruit? I bought some precut watermelon from TJ's and now wondering if maybe it's not the best idea to eat?

The issue with cut fruit is whether or not it was washed before they cut into it. I would assume they do, but I wouldn't trust it. I'd buy, wash, and cut my own. I east deli meat and sushi, but listeria with produce does worry me because it happens a lot.

  • @chopchop25 I would have never thought twice about it. I ate boatloads of precut pineapple trying to encourage DS to evict after 39 weeks.  :D

Saaaaaame! I think I ate half a pineapple the night before he was born.
  • Thanks, guys! Think this early on I will just have H eat it. Can't wait for all of the fruit to come back into season.
  • Wait!  Should I not be eating pineapple?  (Even if it does taste like pickles.)
  • Pineapple is fine to eat during pregnancy.  It’s supposed to bring on labor, but so is sex and a bunch of other things.

  • @knottieamusements It’s just one of those wives tales of things to help induce labor, like spicy food. Probably does nothing, but you get desperate. Haha. Even if it did work at the tail end of pregnancy, it’s defintley not going to send you into labor before you’re ready.
  • I haven’t seen a STM thread in a while (unless I missed it, which is totally a possibility), so I’ll post this here... we had DS’s 2 year well visit this week, and the pedi suggested we should start potty training him.  For any STM who have already gone through the potty training stage, how did you start the process, and any tips/things you learned that you wish you knew before? I feel so clueless and don’t even know where to start...
