@HoosOnFirst I have actually thought of that too! With my first i had severe lower back pain for a couple days before labour. So if i got that again, I wonder if i Could just go chill in the Hospital lobby haha!
So, it sounds like some of you have suggested that your labor experiences might be hereditary?
If my mother had to be induced for both of her labors (her water didn't break for either) and both my brother and I were more than a week late, does that increase my chances for the same situations to arise?
I'm not sure there are any hard facts, but do know it's commonly believed that the best sign of how long of a gestation you'll have is based on your own mother. Not the same thing as labor length of course, but interesting. I went to 41 weeks or longer with both of my kids and went into labor on my own. My mom was past due with my siblings and I. My sisters 3 kids were all past due as well. True for us!
FWIW my second child came later than my first, and I labored longer the second time.
That sounds iffy at best-- there are a lot of factors to consider. My sister was born on he due date, i was born ten days early and I went into labor on my due date and had them the next day.
@mariek312 I heard this too and it's been true so far with me and my 4 sisters. My mom and all of us go until 42 weeks and get induced.
For my son, I got induced at 42 weeks and I was in labor for 42 hrs. I progressed really slowly and it wasn't painful at all even without the epidural. The nurses were shocked. I was so bored , my husband taught me how to play gin rummy and I watched a whole season of a show. Hahah
When I came in, I was barely 1.5 cm dilated so they did a Foley bulb catheter for 24 hrs then they started pitocin when I got to 4 cm. I was having major contractions ( per nurses and the monitor) but I didn't feel it. I slowly progressed so they broke my water. I kinda felt pain after that so I asked for epidural. Didn't want to to feel anything. Then it took another 12 hrs after that before I went to 9 cm. It was lonnnnnggggg. All my sisters are like this. It takes forever for us. I pushed really hard for 30 mins because I was so done. Then he was out.
