Re: What's in a name?
Some that I've tossed around though for girls are:
Eloise (LOVE this name but absolutely hate the meaning of it)
Agnes (H hates this name)
Elenore
Amelia

i already have two boys a brighton and a Lennox
If it’s a girl, we’ve got our work cut out for us. It took us FOREVER to agree on a name for DD1. We agree on tons of boy names. We like:
Knox
Nolan
Owen
Evan
Ian
Everly Taryn/Tess*
Elena Tess*
Not set on the middle name but I'm finding it hard to find another T name I like and that fits. Suggestions welcome!
Boy:
Evan Thomas
Elias Theodore
Personally, I was all for Piper Elizabeth but DH said Piper is a stripper name *eyeroll*
He also said a hard no to Seraphina.
So im more into old fashioned/uncommon names (don’t worry - nothing yooonique, our last name is uncommon enough). DH likes thinks more straightforward
for boys, we had always said John junior, nickname Jack, but then Jack has become so trendy that I’m not sure. I like John, but I would be calling two people in the same house the same name. I also like Benjamin (Ben), Phillip, and Theodore (Teddy)
For girls, the big frontrunner is Alice. I am secretly worried that Princess Kate will steal this though. I also love Daisy and Josephine (Josie)
@middleschoolmommy, Awww, I love the name Piper... definitely doesn't sound like a stripper name to me.
If we have a boy, we have a family name picked out... Alexander Dale. That being said, my husband's family has all same-sex children (i.e. all girls or all boys per family) so he is convinced we are going to have another girl. We are thinking of staying in the Zs since we have a Zoey, but it's a little hard. The only two we can come up with so far are Zaya (rhymes with Maya) or Zara and I am not sold on either one because I don't want people constantly asking how to say or spell it.
Anyone know any other girl Z names?
@purelex What about Zadie? It might be a little rhyme-y with Zoey though. DD's classmate is named Zadie and I think it's a super cute name.
@CopperBoom86 I love all those boy names! I'm jealous though because our last name sounds similar to Watson, so we can't use any boy names that end in -an. It rhymes too much to me. But all the boy names I love end with -an!
I have no clue about boy names, other than that I'd like the middle name to be David after my dad. MH likes the name Parker, but I don't care for it. For girl names, my top picks are Sydney and Natalie. I considered Natalie for DD, but we opted for another name (Brooke) instead.
DD1: 8/2014
TTC #2: 6/2017

BFP 2/15/2018 | EDD: November 2nd | It's a girl!
DD2: 10/2018
i love old fashioned girl names too. DD is Charlotte and my SD is Georgia, I think they sound lovely together. Plus, we call them Charlie and George
For boy, I like Samuel for a middle name I think. It came to me as I was crying and worrying one night. There’s a story in the Bible where Hannah prayed for God to give her a child, and he did, even though she was old, and she named him Samuel... gave me some hope in that moment, so DH will have a hard time dissuading me there
James
Jensen
Girl
Josephine
I don't know what we'll do if we have another boy. There's always "Chad" short for Nebuchadnezzar... lol
ours so far are
Evelyn Mae
Brynn Gabrielle
Lucas James
Max James
i am convinced I’m having a boy because it took us forever to come up with any boy names we liked!
Girl:
Penelope Joan (I love this one but our last name starts with a P and I worry about the initials "PP")
Or
Charlotte Joan
Boy:
Maximus (Max) Edward
Or
Maxwell (Max) Edward
I love the nickname Max I just can't decide on Maximus or Maxwell.
Girl:
Sadie Elizabeth
(I want to do Elizabeth as it was my Nana's middle name. My name is her maiden name, and my cousin has her first name, so middle is all that is left.)
Boy:
Alexander John
(John after DH's uncle.)
DH has a very unique name. I can't even begin to describe it because he and his father were the only two in the US for a while so, you know, internet safety. Both his dad and uncle named their first sons after themselves. His cousin just had a son and passed the name down so there is a third. I think his family on that side will expect us to do the same. I have never been a fan of Jrs and honestly DH uses a "takeout" name half the time so he doesn't have to explain his. To be fair, Alexander is what his name means when translated, so we would sort of be following the pattern.

Boy: Louis Reuben (both are family names on H's side)
Girl: Talulla Jean (Jean is a family middle name on my side)
I worry somewhat that Talulla is too "wacky" of a name, but I LOVE all the nickname options (Tally, Tally Lu, Lula, Lulu, Louie, TJ) also I like the light, lyrical sound of it.
*Only other issue with Talulla is the numerous variations of spelling. I want to go with the most traditional/Irish spelling which is debatable based on what I've seen online. My best research/guesstimate the above spelling.

Boy names are so much harder for me. H and I do not see eye to eye on boy names so we are having a hard time finding one. Here is our list of names we agree on.
Simon
Graham
Calvin
Theodore
Frederick
August
I love Roman, Vincent, and Dominic, but H is not on board.
Girl: Collins, Hallie, Savannah (nn Savy), Windsor (nn Winnie). Middle name will likely be Marie for my mother and my aunt.
Boy: Griffin, Wells, Davis, Wilkes. Middle name undecided. If we go with Wells or Wilkes, it will be David.
DH is not sold on any of the boy names. He likes my girl names.
Boy: William James
Girl: Olivia Hazel (middle name for my grandmother)
TTC #1 since: Aug 2016
Dx: Unexplained

Me: 31/DH: 30
Girl: Olivia Layne or Ashten (not sure of middle name to go along with)
I did like Ashten Layne until I realized the initials would be ALS, which my uncle passed away from. Any suggestions to go with Ashten that isn’t an L name? My First name is Ashten, but I’ve always gone by my middle name and my husband loves the name.
We have 0 girl names because we cannot agree. Our kids so far are:
Griffin Dean
Grant Michael
Everly Pearl
We use family names for the middle, except the oldest, both of his names are family names.
The ones we have left on the list are:
Everett Jack
Grayson OR Granger Banks (not sold on these first names)
We are having twins which makes it even more difficult. I want them to at least flow smoothly together.
LIke I said, we have no girl names.
My husband likes Iris....no. I love Evangeline and call her Linnie or something short but the entire family hates that. I understand it's really different. I also like Eady but my husband says is rhymes with 'easy' so no. (insert eye roll)
HELP ME!!!
***Edited to say: I keep being drawn to Holden. If it's boy/girl twins maybe Holden and Hadley?
I like soft elegant names that can have nn, and he likes short (and many harsh sounding) names.
We also don't want any common names (top 5 or whatever). And don't want anything yooounique. And I don't believe in naming my child after an inanimate object (apple, blanket, rainbow...)
Plus, his first language is French so the name has to sound good in French and English. (and I don't like names that lose letters/sounds or become a whole different name when they are said in French).
PLUS his culture is that children get 2 middle names. Which I hate, but have conceeded. But I am refusing to have all our kids of the same gender, have the same middle name. (ex he wants any/all our daughters to be named: child's 1st Name, my 1st name, my maiden name, family name. I understand he is trying to honour me. but So not happening).
I've had a girl name that I've loved for years. He HATED it at first, but has been trying hard for the last 3 years to come around. (because he is amazing like that). But we don't agree on the spelling as it's common to have it several different ways.
And there are a few other girl names we can mostly agree on, but I think I would be disappointed with them in the end.
Boy names are Impossible. There just seem to be so few!
I have liked Logan for 12+ years, but it's too popular now. And I like Declan but ditto popularity. I also like Emmett but DH doesn't, which is fine.
We both are liking Nicholas lately, but I'm struggling with imagining "baby Nick". I feel like I'd need a 2 syllable NN for a baby, and Nicky doesnt work because we know too many female Nikki's lol
Anyway, reading your lists has been wonderful! There are already many names I've never heard or considered before! Helps get the creative juices flowing lol

@middleschoolmommy I love Piper! But I'm a huge fan of Charmed... so that probably has something to do with it.
We DO NOT agree on girl names. Our 2nd daughter didn't have a name for 2 days.
Girl Possibles:
Penelope nn Poppy Jane -me
Magnolia- me nn Maggie DH(actually dislike the name Maggie but my husband likes it so I may use that as a sell for Magnolia and then just call her Magnolia)
Grace Jane we both like Grace but it doesn't flow well with Jane.
Genevieve Jane nn Vivi
Abigail Jane - he loves this but our oldest is named Aubrey and I feel like Abby and an Aubrey is a bit confusing.
Boys we totally agree on:
Dean Jameson
Tyler Jameson
We dislike names that are unisex, names that aren't names, and crazy spellings. I also personally don't care if sibling names don't go together. I'd love some more girl ideas if anyone has any? I'm all ears!
Ex. Cortney (2nd most common), Quartney, Kortnee, Kortnie, Courtny etc.etc.
My mom picked the traditional spelling which I have always been grateful for, even as a kid. People rarely misspell my name because she picked the traditional spelling and I really appreciate that. I also appreciate not having to correct people all the time I.e. it's Kourtney with a k or it's C-o-u-r-t-n-I-e.
Boy we havent settled on. I love the name Maverick but hes not sold on it... and hes not giving any ideas!
I do agree that having an unconventionally spelled name makes it a little harder on kids, though, if only because they always have to spell it out. My name had at least three spelling options and my mom went with the traditional one, which I'm happy with. There were two other girls in my classes in middle school with the same name, but spelled the two alternate ways and they always had to correct people's spelling.
It's a personal decision, though. You do you!
@babybrain2018 My son's name is Logan (his twin is Avery, who I mentioned above). It is a very popular name, but I've yet to run into another Logan "in the wild" around here (midwest suburbs of a large city). I did run into a few when we were at Disney World, including a college age girl who was working there, though, so I guess it depends on where you live.
I have a name that was quite popular at the time that I was born and it did kind of suck having other kids in my class with the same name, but it wasn't the end of the world by any means.

@pink_polkadots I am in agreement that the biggest objection to Averie is that it will be automatically spelled wrong and your daughter will always have to spell/correct people. I also have a name with many variations, and I have one of the most common, but it still irks me when people spell it wrong.
@purelex Thought of another Z name - Zora, like author Zora Neale Hurston
