I am due June 17th, and I have been at my job for 2 1/2 years full time and I told my manager and CEO I was pregnant in December. They still don't have a maternity leave policy. We are not protected by FMLA. At first my boss asked me if I was going to be taking 12 weeks off and I said yes. A few days later he came back and said he wasn't sure if that was right and they have been "working" on a policy ever since, but still no answers. I ask him weekly for any updates but nothing so far. Makes it kinda difficult for a momma to plan her summer with first her newborn. Any thoughts?
My first thought is that this would be a super great question for the question thread that we have already running. Because this is a unique situation to you, and no one else can benefit from this question being it's own SS thread...
My second thought is that no one here has any idea who you are. If you're interested in using us as Google - please don't. We aren't robots. Although I'm sure we could pretend, that's a lot of beep boops and that would give us all headaches after a while. If you're interested in actually being a member of the community, getting to know us, letting us get to know you, and offering/receiving support and commiserating about this wonderful journey we're all going through - use the intro thread to introduce yourself, and then start participating in our regular weekly/monthly threads where the rest of us hang out.
My third thought is that if you have a manager and a CEO, you should have some sort of an HR department at your work, yes? If so; go to them. Not your manager. They can help you figure out your leave and any policies they have on record that would pertain (i.e.: disability, leave, etc.). If you don't have an HR department, tell your manager that you're however-many weeks away from your estimated due date, and could go in to labor before that date, and they need to focus on nailing down a policy or you'll end up just doing whatever you want because they didn't plan that far ahead. If you're not FMLA eligible, then that would mean your workplace has 50 or fewer employees, including yourself. You can still use disability, or I'm sure there's a leave policy on file, and I'm assuming you have some vacation time or PTO you could use.
OP, it’s pretty rude to delete your post after someone has made an effort to answer your question. And help point you in the right direction for navigating the board properly.
Great work on the QFP, @izza2. And really nice of you to put so much thought into answering her question given how little we actually know about the situation. That was more than could have been expected!
