I know everyone thinks little girl clothes are just so cute. My UO: I’m so glad I’ll never have to deal with little girl clothes. Before my a/s I walked through the little girl & baby girl sections at a few stores, just in case, and ugh, the clothes are repulsive to me. It reminds me of my mother dressing me in all the cutesy, frilly clothing she loved with bows and ruffles and glitter, that I hated with a passion.

Same! Some of it is cute, but I see little girls in these super rufflly things and I’m not a fan. Especially the ruffles on the bottom of pants. It’s jusy not cute. I feel like these girls will look at pictures of themselves in the future and say “Why, Mom?”
Ugh, yeah - Matilda Jane stuff is awful. DD wears a lot of gray and black, haha. People often mistake her for a boy because she doesn't have enough hair for a ponytail yet.
I don’t know if it’s an UO or not, but when I see people looking for childcare on Facebook groups and what they’re willing to pay is less than minimum wage, I give it major side eye. The reason I guess it’s an UO, is that people are actually responding and willing to watch these people’s kids! Like really, you will accept $4.50 an hour to watch two young children you aren’t related to? I guess some people just really love watching other people’s kids. I’m not talking a one time babysitting gig, either, a 4 day a week job. That wouldn’t be worth it to me.
I hate being invited to baby/toddler birthday parties. Your 2 year old doesn't even know me, IDGAF about their birthday, don't invite me. I'm not coming and I'm not sending you a gift.
Lol, I honestly didn’t think anyone would agree! Even at Walmart, when DH was forcing me to look at baby girl sleepers, I was freaking out at the amount of bows, ruffles, and pink. Like why would someone put a huge pink bow in the middle of an infant’s back? They lay on their backs. That would be so uncomfortable. And then I told DH that I would just dress a little girl in DS’s baby clothes, and he was horrified.

I obviously haven't looked at the girl clothes at Walmart, then. LOL. I always just buy the t-shirts/shorts/pants folded on the tables. The things that are like $4 each.
WM is the only store I still have locally that carries kids’ clothes. All the others have closed thanks to bankruptcies & restructuring. I’ve never even heard of Matilda Jane.
Matching clothes - no, just no. I will coordinate my clothes with DH’s and DS’s for family pics, but I would never make anybody wear matching clothes. Our one friend’s wife dressed their 3 boys in matching purple shirts with baby blue shorts & suspenders for pics, then had her baby girl in a pink, purple & blue dress. The 9yo looked like he wanted to die of embarrassment.
E gets to pick her clothes out of several items, and she always picks the brightly colored frilly stuff. She is 15 months old. I'm going to be stuck with pink bows for 17 more years. ugh
@lalala2004 Not trying to start anything, but most people I know who watch kids in their home do it as a way to supplement their income. Like our lady, she writes for several large magazines, and has child support & alimony that cover her bills. She just wants some extra 'fun' money so watches our 2 littles for $30 a day.

I must confess I do like some of the little girl clothes. Maybe it's because I haven't had an opportunity to buy any but as long as they're tastefully done I think they can be just darling. Yes to the first dress, HECK NO to the second one.
I also never understood the whole bow craze for baby girls but I see so many pics of my friends' babies wearing them that I do think they can be very cute. As long as they're not tight or anything!
I have seen some, what I would consider inappropriate, slogans on children's' clothes that are just awful. I saw "Pick me up, I dig older chicks" on a boy onesie and "Sorry boys, daddy says I can't date until I'm 30" on a girl one. Bleurgh.

@ecwk - I'm like 99% sure we bought a little dress just like that for this little one! And I think the little ruffle butts under a dress or something are darling We got some headbands with little bows and there's a LOT of pink in my laundry basket. No shame, I went all out for the adorable baby boy clothes, I'm doing it for this one too
And yes yes yes to the horribly inappropriate baby clothes. Spoiler because it's that inappropriate. This came up in my quest for cute funny baby onesies:
I love frilly, sparkly, girly things. When we eventually have a girl, things are going to be girly (even though I'm having so much fun with boy clothes right now). But within reason- that blue polka dot dress would be my style.
@juliebird6 our friend had a big party for his daughter's first birthday, but it was just a big BBQ with lots of food and booze and the kids running around doing whatever. We'll probably do something similar for our son's first birthday.

@melprop Kind of in the same vein, I think maybe my UO would be that I hate gender/sex assigned colors. It's one reason I'm hesitant to tell people I"m having a boy because I'll just be flooded with blue stuff. Blue can totally be for a girl too - it's just a color.
@brezzy1928 I'm with you on the animal print. But I can go one step further and say I don't like animal print period. I've owned one pair of snake skin printed flats in my life, but that's the only animal print I've purchased.
I actually like some girly stuff and I think some outfits are super cute. Although I’d prefer them to be practical, sometimes it’s fun to get dolled up.
UO: I think it’s okay to like blue on boys and pink on girls. Either sex should be free to dress in whatever color they want but I don’t view it as a bad thing that my DDs want to dress girly. And it annoys me when people assume that whatever color my kids are dressed in is my stance on gender politics.
They both play with dolls and trucks. They like tea parties and jumping in the mud. It’s clothes, dude.
Our baby room where we are is $400 a week. This is why we waited until DS was going to start Kindergarten to have another lol otherwise we’d be paying $700 a week
Omg give me all of the bows and pink. I DO NOT like the frilly crap though, that MJ stuff is SO not my style. I like florals and headbands and bows but not the huge ones that are bigger than the baby's head. Like this outfit below, I want it.
I'm with @calimom2524 , give me all the girly stuff (especially florals!). I'm in love right now with felt flower bows/crowns with nylon headbands (look on Etsy), they are adorable
I LOVE girl clothes, but I'm glad everyone defined what they meant by it bc I'm definitely thinking of simple designs, just cute colors/patterns like the blue dress above. My girls have a few cute items, but mostly they live in shorts or leggings and a t shirt (which I also think are cute). They both enjoy pinks and purples, but my oldest loves the color yellow and my youngest loves the color blue so I guess they haven't been too swayed in their opinions by what they "should" like.
I don't think there's anything wrong with ruffles and all that jazz. I just don't prefer it and so far my girls have never showed interest in that style when we're clothes shopping. I know a girl who dresses her girls in Matilda Jane and they look pretty cute in it (and they love it).
But OMG, that onesie with the actual boob on it...yuck! I guess someone thought it was funny but it just makes me feel dirty...
@msmonalisavito Oh I don't think it has anything to do with gender politics. It just bothers me that people automatically assume I'm going to want blue stuff because it's a boy.
When I was a little girl (like 5) I wanted my room painted blue, but my mom denied me and said that was a boy color and I had to have a pink room. I hated pink, but she did it anyway. I guess I've just harbored a crazy long grudge lol..
@princesslockness I’m all for cheap childcare, I just think the people that do it for peanuts for a stranger are crazy. But that’s mostly because I think it’s a lot of work, and I would personally want to be well compensated. But I do see the benefit of being able to make money and have your children with you at the same time. Then again, what if these people have horribly behaved children and they don’t get along with yours? These people don’t know each other at all!
Ugh, yeah - Matilda Jane stuff is awful. DD wears a lot of gray and black, haha. People often mistake her for a boy because she doesn't have enough hair for a ponytail yet.
I’m super excited to dress a girl but I haaaate Matilda Jane! Omg yuck. Plenty of girlie stuff I’ll do but there’s an over the top style I just don’t like.

I usually do more coordinating than matching, because I just find that I prefer it, and I coordinate like, always (I’m a little crazy about kid clothes). But my boys LOOOOOVE matching. Love love love. My oldest is 7 and still very into it
@calimom2524 that outfit is super adorable! As is the polka dot dress posted above. I am not a huge fan of the ruffles, animal print and huge bows. I myself do not own anything pink and do not consider myself 'girly', so I think some of it just stems from my own personal style/taste. If this LO had been a girl I definitely would have gone the more subtle route with her clothes! I think some of it can be cute, if it's tastefully done and not too over the top.
In regards to clothes in general, I refuse to pay full price for anything for DS and now DS #2. We got a lot of cute onesies/outfits for our shower that had the "little dude" "Mommy's captain" with a boat on it, etc and it was all good, but IMO they are going to poop, spit up or find another way to ruin just about everything! Don't get me wrong, it's adorable and DS wore it, but I have a hard time shelling out full price for a onesie that's so tiny. A lot of stuff we have was hand me downs from DH's cousin or I bought at Once Upon a Child, or Target/Old Navy when it's on sale. Now at almost 3 DS has holes in every pair of jeans, food/dirt/paint/chalk/ stains on so many shirts it's like eh, good thing I only paid $4 for it!
I want to dress my boys in Matching outfits for holidays and special occasions. At least until they’re old enough to complain.
i love girl clothes but am also not huge on ruffles or bows as bigger than the child’s head. Love that blue dress and the outfit @calimom2524 posted up there. I love pink. DS wore a pinkish shirt to school Today though, so I totally put my son in it too.
Re: UO Thursday 3/22
I don't like animal print on little girls. It seems indecent or something.
I just realized I sound like I am 100 years old. lol.
Ruffles AND animal prints!
