Pregnant after IF

Into--just found out and terrified (Trigger warning)

Hi ladies!
I am so glad I found this board. My husband and I have been struggling with secondary infertility for 4 years. We have a daughter who is 5 and we had one miscarriage 2 years ago. We have seen two different REs and had all the tests done. Unfortunayely, we had to stop short of IVF because of the cost. So when I found out this morning (made DH go out in the snow to get a test!) I was in shock.

Now, I am terrified that this one will end the same way as the last. Although, the last one I never felt good about, something always seemed off. This time I have been happy the whole day. I am hoping to be able to go in to the RE in the next day or two to get a test done.

So, in the mean time, a couple of questions. Is it normal for breast pain to come and go? Also, I am have sharp/stabby pain in my lower abs. It only lasts a minute or two but I don't remember it happening before. They feel like what I get before AF and my RE said it was due to my Endo (I have a very mild case). So I am not sure if it is something I should worry about.

Thanks ladies!

  • Welcome! I also had secondary infertility, now have a 4 month old thanks to IVF. Just between the two pregnancies, NOTHING was the same. First- sore boobs, sick, no spotting. Second- boob pain came and went, period levels of spotting, never got sick. It’s a terrible time of uncertainty but just try to breathe, enjoy that sweet baby in you, and count every day as a milestone. Then you’ll see ultrasounds and the fears will go away more. I called my RE often and luckily we had a lot of early ultrasounds, but just call, they’ll hopefully reassure you! :)

  • @Polythene Pam Unfortunately, they were closed today because of the snow storm. I am hoping they will be open tomorrow! I already sent an email to my patient coordinator.

And thank you for the advice. I am really just trying to stay calm!
  • Welcome! I also had a natural BFP after 5 yrs ttc just before IVF. Miracles do happen! You are in the right place because all of us can relate to the intense fear and anxiety that IF sets you up for. Feel free to jump onto the 1st tri board and hopefully your RE can squeeze you in soon!
    TTC since May 2013
    Mild PCOS, Compound Heterozygous MTHFR
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
  • Congratulations!  Yes, it's totally normal for breast tenderness, or other symptoms, to come and go.  Try not to stress about it, bc symptoms for sure won't stay consistent the entire time.  Hopefully the pains are not too intense or prolonged!  I definitely had some cramping and pulling feelings early on because the uterus starts stretching right away due to the increased bloodflow.  So that can be totally normal, too.  Just check with your doctor/ nurse when they are available so they are aware. ;)  it's scary at first, opening up your heart to the possibility that it might really be happening, but hopefully you will get more and more good results to start to ease your mind going forward... YAY!!!! ❤
