Re: 1st Trimester Check-in | Week of 3/19

  • How far along are you? / EDD
    ~12 weeks/Oct 1st

How are you feeling? I had an awesome week last week of feeling back to my normal self! No nausea or vomiting but it came back yesterday. Hopefully it will disappear for good in a few weeks. Last pregnancy it was gone at 14 weeks. Super tired this morning!

Any recent/upcoming appointments? Nope, not until April 2nd. :(

We find out the results of Maternit21 genetic testing and the sex of our baby in a week or so!

Thoughts/Concerns?  I am planning on quitting my job in June and I am just getting a little nervous about that. I have been wanting to quit for a while- I work for a web design/marketing company from home which is great but it's hard-I want to spend all my time with my son. :)

Questions: I am wondering your thoughts about having a second baby shower/"sprinkle." I know they are not popular on this site at all lol, but everyone in my friend group has had a smaller shower for their second or even third baby (most have been the same sex as well).. I'd like to at least do something to celebrate this baby!

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news?

We basically told our family and close friends right away... I went on a wine tasting weekend with friends and they would have wondered why I wasn't drinking (I love wine ;)) so we had to tell them.

We are planning on making it "public" and announcing on social media the day after Easter. (14 weeks) I am not entirely sure all the details yet but the plan is have my son in a big brother shirt and then I am going to have this sign that says "Some miracles come through IVF procedures, some come without. Our second miracle baby is due October 1st, 2018!"

  • Happy Monday, everyone! It's my spring break. :)

How far along are you? / EDD
    8+2

    How are you feeling?
Not bad, but HANGRY and exhausted. I can't really complain compared to others.

    Any recent/upcoming appointments?
Had an ultrasound today! Both babies measuring perfectly, heartbeats at 176 & 167. I'm waiting for the official graduation phone call, then we'll see our OB for the first time Friday.

    Thoughts/Concerns?
Holy eff I think we might be having twins.

    Questions:
    None

QOTW: I just wrote an AW post asking for advice on how to tell friends. Right now only a couple of people plus my therapist know. We plan to tell our immediate families on April Fool's day. We'd NEVER tell the public that day, but DH's family have a big prank email tradition, so they have it coming. I'll need to tell work at some point relatively soon for planning purposes, but the world won't know until the a/s scan, or until my bump is too big to hide, whichever comes first.

    How are you feeling?
    SO.SICK.ALL.DAMN.DAY
Nausea is about to take me out! Nothing is helping and some days I want to cry. Still gassy but not as bad. I think I’m starting to get constipated but other than that just peachy.

    Any recent/upcoming appointments?
March 26 to check out Baby again.

    Thoughts/Concerns?
I’m wondering what will happen to the other sac.

    Questions:
Metal Detectors! How early in our pregnancy are we able to start not going through the metal detectors at the airport? I travel on Thursday and want to know early. I’m taking no chances!

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news?
We told close family and friends but that’s it. DH told his supervisor because of him taking extended lunch breaks during doctors appointments but not me. I don’t plan to tell work until either I’m forced to or when I’m showing. They’ll find out later that everyone is getting cussed out because I’m hormonal and they are getting on my nerves.
adding* We plan to do a sign announcing “Baby A coming Fall 2018”
once I am showing and only to extended family like cousins, aunts, uncles and Godparents.

  • @mrsa2017
I had a vanishing twin at the beginning of this pregnancy (34 weeks now o.o), but my timeline might be a little different than yours. Both embryos were implanted and growing with heartbeats at 6/7 weeks, but 8 weeks only one heartbeat. It took until around 16 weeks for the 2nd sac to be re-absorbed. It was visible (but empty) at 12 weeks. If your OB does the first trimester fetal DNA screening, you may want to discuss it with your OB as vanishing twin can affect results for up to 9 weeks after the sac is last visible. The only one that may account for vanishing twin is the Panorama test. I did some research on it

  • @mrsa2017 you should be fine to go through airport security :) you can always call your doctor to double check but mine said it was perfectly fine & the book I've flipped through for info also says airport screenings should be safe.
  • @mbradfo2 thank you, I will ask about it. Sorry to hear about your twin <3 I was wondering how long it would keep showing up on my ultrasounds.

@Aera11 good to know. Better to be safe than sorry.

  • @mrsa2017
I traveled a few times my last pregnancy between 6-24 weeks and I told them I was pregnant and would prefer to not go through the machines. They (always a woman) took me off to the side and did basically a full pat down. Keep in mind this can be time consuming. Tell the first TSA agent you see as they will have to track down someone to do it :). They never gave me any issue about it but I was assured both the metal detectors and xray machines were safe for pregnant women.

  • @chicandbubbly - I have mixed thoughts on the "sprinkle." For a lot of people, it's totally expected, although they'll likely give a smaller present. But you can't tell who on your invite list would be of the "it's so tacky" mindset, and you may never find out which friends and relatives were offended. If I were to do one, I'd throw a "no gifts expected" party, and tell people that, if they really want to get you something, they could bring X (like diapers, or a donation to a charity). My two cents. :)

@mrsa2017 - You can ask for a pat-down instead of a scan whenever you'd like, and you don't need a reason. My hubby always does (no, I have no idea why), and he's obviously not pregnant. Regarding nausea, my doctor advised 25 mg B6, 3 times a day, plus 1/2 of a Unisom sleep tab at bedtime. Check with your doctor, but I've heard from a lot of people that's the first line of defense against nausea. If that doesn't help, you could ask for Diclegis. Hope you can find a way to feel better!

  • How far along are you? / EDD:  I am 7+2 today

How are you feeling?  OK today, but I've had some constant nausea/crummy feeling and SO TIRED!!!  I was worried they'd find a second baby at our first US because these symptoms are hitting so much earlier and harder than my last pregnancy.

Any recent/upcoming appointments?  Had our first US last Friday, which showed baby girl measuring exactly on track with a HR of 138.  Starting to let myself get a little more excited...

Thoughts/Concerns?  Just general worries about having 2 under 2 and paying for daycare and etc, etc, etc.

    Questions:

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news?

We've told a few people at work, and one of our couple friends (she's currently 20 weeks pregnant with an IVF little boy), but that's pretty much it.  The big reveal for my family is on Easter, and we'll tell the rest of the world at some point after that.  I have visions of making an IVF-stereotypical scene with all the needles/meds laid out in a heart with a tiny onesie in the middle, an US picture and a little note saying 'Made with love, science (and a little help from Auntie Bean)'  (my sister is Auntie Bean and she was our egg donor).  We'll see if I actually end up making this and/or posting it anywhere online.

As for the sprinkle idea.....I totally get it.  I need nothing whatsoever for baby #2, other than formula and diapers.  But I still want to celebrate/honor her upcoming arrival.  Feels a bit gift grabby but I'd love the celebration piece of it.  This girl is a freaking miracle and she deserves to be celebrated!!  She'll be the last grandchild born in my family.  Not sure how to word things or convey that gifts are absolutely not necessary, but I do want to have some sort of small celebratory get-together.
Me: Age 40  Husband: Age 41

    FET #1  7/13/16  BFN

    Super shocker +HPT 9/19
    Baby Alyce arrived 5/8/17

Went forward with donor eggs from my sister for baby #2
ER 4/24, 5 eggs fertilized/1 survived to blast and was chromosomally normal.

  • @chicandbubbly do you have a friend or sister/SIL who would offer to host/throw one?  I've thrown two actually and it was because they were having the opposite gender, but it would have been fun to celebrate either way...any excuse for cake :)@PNW12RN you could always put 'your presence is our gift' or something along those lines.  I do events and have had several parties (like 50ths, etc) where they don't want people bringing gifts (some still will obviously) but they don't want it to seem like that is the purpose for the party and we've always put something along those lines on the bottom of the invitations.
  • Hi Ladies! I am new here :) Here's a little background... I had my FET on Feb. 27 (transferred 1 embryo) and my final beta last Wednesday so step 1 in actually believing that I am pregnant! *TW child mentioned* I have a 20 month old son who was born in July 2016 after a fresh IVF cycle *end TW (also, I have no idea if I need TW with child mentions on this board but thought I would do it just in case)* after my husband and I starting trying to conceive in 2013.

How far along are you? / EDD
    5 weeks 5 days / November 15

    How are you feeling?
Fine, which scares me. I am tired all the time, but I am always tired... I work from home, run my own business and chase after my 20 month old, so yes... always tired!

    Any recent/upcoming appointments?
My first ultrasound is on March 30.

    Thoughts/Concerns?
Freaking myself out a little big because I have no real symptoms except feeling tired which again, not sure is really related to this pregnancy and I feel cold all the time but I read that could be due to progesterone and other hormones... I am on PIO and Estrace so I am def juiced up on hormones. At this time in my last pregnancy, I was exhausted, had nausea and tender breasts... I know those aren't things I really should wish for but in this case, yes I am wishing for them! Also my betas were much lower than last time... 180, 642 (3 days later) and 1192... Last time, they were around 800, 2400 (3 days later) , and 5000. The nurses said my numbers were great and that every pregnancy is different which I get, but infertility really messes with your head!

    Questions:
    Am I being paranoid?

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news?
We told our parents. Both sets of parents knew that we were trying again so we told them as soon as we got our 3rd beta results. As far as telling others, we will most likely wait until after the first trimester. Some others closer to us might find out before though.

@chicandbubbly I am OK with sprinkle, it's nice to celebrate another baby and get a few more things that you maybe didn't have before (if people ask of course, I wouldn't register or anything) and maybe get some necessities like diapers and wipes.

@mrsa2017I remember with my last pregnancy my doc said those airport x-rays emitted the same amount of radiation as our cell phones so not to worry, but I like the idea of asking to skip it and getting the pat down. As IVF patients, I think we're all used to a little invasion of privacy!

  • How far along are you? / EDD 10 +2; Estimated Mid-Sept with Twins

How are you feeling? Got super worried over the weekend because my symptoms mostly went away again, but the MS is back full force this morning! Otherwise ok, breast tenderness is mostly gone and the exhaustion has become more manageable. Just the heartburn and MS that are really kicking my butt.

Any recent/upcoming appointments? Next US is next Tuesday the 27th. I'll be 11+2. I'm just SO worried about a MM. I don't really have any specific reason to believe I've had one, I'm just nervous. I feel like I maybe don't feel "as pregnant" as I should, you know?

Thoughts/Concerns? I got put on antibiotics for a sinus infection last Friday. The prescribing doctor assured me they were safe, and my OB approved the use but I just hate that I have to take them. I think that's another thing really contributing to my anxiety about my appointment next week!

    Questions:

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news? Yes- we are fully transparent know. We announced to our family at 8 weeks, and made a social media announcement last week at 9+4. I have been blogging/transparent on social media about our fertility struggles and the process, so announcing early was ok for me as people have been asking for weeks. I would talk about a miscarriage on my blog anyway, so we decided it was the right decision for us to go ahead and tell everyone. It was a very badly kept secret anyway- my career tends to involve a lot of drinking so it was very apparent to a lot of people after many, many weeks of seeing me turn down alcohol!

    1st cycle of IVF started April 9, 2017. ER- 15R, 7M, 5F, 4 frozen, 1 transferred. BFN

    May 2017- Hysteroscopy

June-August 2017- 2nd attempt via FET. 2 Embryos transferred on 08/10/17. BFP, but ended in a chemical.

    November 2017- Hysteroscopy

    January 2018- 3rd attempt via FET. 2 Embryos transferred on 01/25/18. BOLD BFP on a HPT on 1/31, Beta # 1 on 2/5= 721. Beta # 2 on 2/7- 1903. 6wk+3 day scan revealed twins!

    I'm blogging about it here

  • mechelita44 welcome and congrats!!I I think the majority of symptoms don't really show up until 6+ weeks so don't stress out about not having symptoms. (Easier said than done I know lol!!)

Thanks everyone for the feedback on the "sprinkle!"

  • @mechelita44 I am in the exact same spot--5w3d, and few-to-no symptoms.  I had sore boobs for awhile, I am out of breath a lot (but I'm an asthmatic anyway), and occasionally I get a small wave of nausea, but nothing that screams "PREGNANT."  However, I had my HCG tested today, and everything is progressing normally.  Hopefully that is encouraging--I know I was googling "can I be pregnant with no symptoms" this morning in a panic.

How far along are you? / EDD 5w3d, EDD 11.17

How are you feeling? Generally fine.  This is my first pregnancy, and it took us over a year and a half to get here, so I want to be slapped in the face with this pregnancy every morning, and so far I'm just not feeling it.  But my RE has been testing my HCG, and everything is good.

Any recent/upcoming appointments?  First ultrasound a week from today--3/27!  I cannot wait.

Thoughts/Concerns?  Just the same ones already voiced--that I want to feel more effects of the pregnancy.  But I trust that will come in time.  And my mother says she never really got sick, so maybe I won't either?

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news?
Yes--since so many of our friends and family have been supporting us through the IF journey, we broke the news very quickly (although not on social media).  I gave my mother a copy of "I'll Love You Forever."  She opened it, and inside I had written the announcement.  My mother is a reserved, tough person, but she started crying and ran to hug me.  Then my dad saw it, and he started crying...and after everyone had settled down, my older brother and his wife announced that they are expecting their first too!  Dude.  Whiplash.  They had already told my parents, but they hadn't told us b/c they knew about our IF and wanted to be sensitive.  She's exactly 4 weeks ahead of me, and we are absolutely thrilled.  <3

    How are you feeling?
I feel pretty good. Just tired. Nausea was hitting full force for a bit there, but I think it's going away? I feel really thankful I only threw up once, at home. I'm a kindergarten teacher and I never would have been able to hide it from my students!

    Any recent/upcoming appointments?
I had the Harmony genetic screening blood draw today, should find out results in a week.

    Thoughts/Concerns?
Other than sore boobs (which I think can be from progesterone shots, too) and being tired, my symptoms didn't start until later on, 8 or 9 weeks. So if you aren't feeling anything yet, it can be totally normal.

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news? We've told our immediate families and one couple of friends who just had an IVF baby. We plan on waiting until 14 weeks or so to tell others. I'm not huge on social media, so those people will probably find out when a very pregnant me is tagged.

  • How far along are you? / EDD
    12+1, 10/3

    How are you feeling?
Starting to have energy, less naseua!

    Any recent/upcoming appointments?
Tomorrow for NT scan and NIPT blood draw. Excited for the u/s but a little nervous for the others...

    Thoughts/Concerns?
Just a random complaint - had a coworker tell me today that she’s accidentally ku, 12 weeks along. She’s excited, and I’m happy for her, but I can’t help but feel like she’s stealing my moment, if you will. Silly, but frustrating all the same.

    Questions:
How long does the NT scan usually take?

QOTW: Have you "announced" your pregnancy yet? (In person, social media..) If you want to share, how did you break the good news?
Just shared to family and a couple workout buddies in the last few weekends.
Saving social media for a bit later. Tempted to hide it at work as long as possible because I’m annoyed at my boss.

@chicandbubbly so exciting! how did you surprise DH last night?

We lost a twin (8+6). These are chromosomally screened embryos, and both babies have looked perfect in all ultrasounds. Even now it measures great except there's no HB. The other one looked good, but if this one can die for no reason, then I have zero faith in the remaining twin. No one has a clue why this keeps happening. This is loss number seven, and my third after a HB. I hate everything.

  • @halfanewt nothing crazy! I got two gift bags- one pink and one blue and put a “little sister” onesie and some bows in the pink one then stuffed the blue one with tissue paper. He opened them both at the same time and then found out we are team PINK! We also have told both of our parents- I had some plastic Easter eggs and told them I was putting inside either a blue or pink Peep (the candy). Last time around we did the cupcakes with blue inside for our families
