Weekend Randoms 3/17

Everyone must be sleeping in today so I  start :)

Re: Weekend Randoms 3/17

  • DH has “army work” today as DS calls it and my mom is working so the poor kid has to come to my hair appt with me today. I’ve only had to do this once before but I have to make my appointments like months out with my stylist because she’s so popular. The tablet is charging now haha

Tomorrow I need to start organizing stuff as we will be moving the guest room down to the basement to make the nursery.
  • Loading the player...
  • I've been absent for a few days, I was working really hard on the house and nursery. All the nursery needs now is the baby's clothes washed and put away, the crib put together, and painted. The clothes can be done on a rainy day in June or July and idc when dh paints or puts the crib together bc it's not like we'll use it right away anyway. I just know all of my stuff is done and I can spend my summer with ds outside and not worrying about the nursery.  I'm such a CD nerd I was ridiculously excited to strip, prep, and set up the diapering station. Like @scottishlass1213 we had our guest room in there and my storage. I had to get creative and find places to put this stuff.

I hope you have a relaxing time getting your hair done! I have to say one of the most relaxing feelings ever is when they wash your hair

  • Awful guests are still here. I woke up with a cold, so I'm in the bathroom right now under the pretense of steaming out my sinuses. DH might be passing a kidney stone (he's prone to them), so we may get out of hanging out with them so that we can stop by the doctor. I just want to sleep all day, but we're supposed to go to a basketball game tonight.

  • @meeks2020 This may need to go in a diff thread - maybe we should start a CD thread? - but I'm curious as to how you strip your diapers. I'm going to try to CD, and I've been reading that some sites say stripping is unnecessary and using bleach in the wash is enough. Is stripping really that bad? Why do you prefer to do it?

@hezzer78 this was the first time i stripped them and I stripped bc it's been so long since we used them, they've been sitting in storage for so long, I had a few I had bought used that got mixed in with the rest, and I just wanted the peace of mind. I followed fluff love and CD science instructions:

  • @meeks2020 Thanks - I've seen that infographic before. I got a few diapers used already, but the lady said she sanitized them and they're in good shape - no stains or stink. I think I'm going to try just washing them with some bleach and if there's issues after that, I'll try stripping.
  • @hezzer78 yeah stripping takes forever and it had my hands sore from wringing out my inserts, but I'm glad I got it done. We moved and got a different washer since we last used them so I also have my new fl&CD science approved wash routine. I'm going to print it off and hang it in the laundry room in case dh needs to wash them one day

DS wanted pancakes - coincidentally my favorite food group. BUT, I’m supposed to limit carbs/sugar. So...I tortured myself by making him pancakes and not eating any. Yay...

  • @F47 Ugh, that's the worst. I made sourdough waffles last weekend and couldn't eat any. I think it just made me mad the rest of the day.

  • So the treat and release sent DH for an ultrasound and then a urologist. I have a feeling it's nothing but I always get so nervous when he has a medical issue.

  • In thinking about st Patrick’s day and not drinking... I realized that the perfect way to describe how I wake up every.day is hungover.

So I’ll get to enjoy the st pats hangover with none of the fun.

  • @hezzer78 I've used CD with my kids and only had strip once bc we got a new washer and I didn't change my routine and got a soap build up so they were stinking of ammonia. Stripped and fixed my routine and never had that issue again. Theoretically if you follow the proper routine for your washer, you shouldn't have to strip them ever. I have NEVER used bleach (except when I stripped them that one time). The site @meeks2020 posted above has lots of good info on wash routines for specific machines, detergent, and special things to consider if you have hard/soft water.
  • Omg!!! A girl I know is giving me her playmat, and 2 seat things (like a rnp type thing one that moves one that doesn’t). The playmat we had was trash by the time my third was done, and I never had those seats - but borrowed from my sis and liked them for my third (but we are both due in early aug so I’m not borrowing this time)

for a 4th and certainly last I hate to spend $ on stuff that will only be used a few months.
Nowcthe only ‘gear’ I need is a monitor (never had one before but our new house and with older kids etc, I think I need one). Wooooo

    well and clothes lol.

  • We're not doing much this weekend. Need to go grocery shopping today, I need to go to Target, and I'm thinking of dropping by BRU and just seeing if anything good is left. They were pretty empty of the good stuff when I went last week though.

  • @homequiltingmama Thanks. That website recommends bleaching used diapers, so that's why I planned on doing it with the few I got used. My new ones no, of course. Super handy website - I also joined their fb group :)

Good luck to your hubby @jsnakehole and hope your awful guests are leaving soon.

AFM I’m in NYC for the weekend! Came to meet my BFF from Ireland and it’s a lot of fun. So many shitfaced people around since the a.m. Definitely makes me wonder about their reasons for “celebrating” today!
A very sober Paddy’s Day for the third year in a row for me!!

Hope you're all having a great weekend so far!

  • @jsnakehole I hope everything is ok with your DH!
@ecwk Have a great weekend in NYC!

AFM, I’m trying to catch up on laundry so DH can start tearing apart the laundry room to tile. We still have about 4 loads to do. I’m starting to feel less tired, so thats helpful. Still taking the ms meds though.
  • @hezzer78 I get doing it with used diapers! You just never know how they were treated before. I know some people who regularly bleach their diapers though and I wasn't sure if that's what you meant or not. I'm going to have to replace/supplement my current stash and this conversation is making me want to get started! I just need H to finish up some work in the garage and get all the stuff out of the baby's room that's blocking my way ;)
  • Thanks, everyone. Thankfully DH is fine- ultrasound was clear. They think the ibuprofen he took after his surgery eroded a blood vessel in his bladder, but that will heal itself.

We're using the doctor trips as an excuse to have a day for ourselves. We're actually going to look at some cribs and baby furniture before we have to meet them for a basketball game.

@ecwk let me know if you need recommendations! Even though I'm sure today is insanity- we're avoiding the city as much as we can.

  • Within the first 20 minutes of waking up before 6:00 am with my son this morning, he argued with me about whether or not it was Saturday, whether or not his daddy is home, a box that H needs for something and I wouldn’t let DS play with it, and then cried because he insisted that waffles aren’t round with little squares and the whipped cream I put on it melted. Just in case anyone is wondering what it’ll be like to have a 3 year old. Sigh.

I don’t know what we are doing the rest of the day. Probably cleaning and maybe playing outside since it isn’t as cold today. Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Sorry I've been MIA all week, I was in disney world with the kids and my mom.  Spoiler alert: it's not a vacation with a 2.5 year old and 9 month old along, and holy shit I'm exhausted.  Also the baby and I got a bad cold on the way back.  Wonderful.

@ecwk Il Corallo Trattoria. Amazing little pasta place on Prince between Thompson and Sullivan. Not expensive, very charming. I've never had a bad meal there.

Edit to add they also have incredible pizza.

  • @ladygali my son is close to three and that sounds about right. DH went to cut up his pizza last night and I was like he will cry like the world is ending if you cut that up.

We’re just hanging out at home today and making spaghetti later. Tomorrow we’re going to DH’s Dad & step mom’s house for lunch, so that should be fun. We don’t see them often but get along well.
  • I’m jealous of everyone starting to set up the nurseries! We have to gut the spare bedroom down to the studs, replace the windows, run a heating duct, replace electrical wiring & add outlets, insulate, drywall, etc. in order to move DS in there. Then we have to do some repair work in DS’s current bedroom before setting up the nursery. So much work, and we’re trying to wait until we’re out of freezing temps. Hopefully it’ll be done by July.

We still have most of DS’s baby stuff in the attic, and I really want to start bringing it down to see what all there is. The problem is that I have nowhere to put any of it. I also have to figure out where all the stuff in the spare bedroom is going to go.
  • DH and I did some shopping, had some lunch, and stopped by my in-laws to pick up the blanket MIL bought for the baby even though I told her it was too expensive. But I am in love with this blanket so much and it is better in person!

DH is now asleep. On the floor.

@elsieisamoocow we stopped at one of theTRU/BRU near us. Nothing was on sale. It wasn't on the original close list but I thought since they are all closing some stuff might be on sale. Nope.
  • This week has been so stressful, and will be until a/s on tuesday. Had to present at a conference this morning, already took a nap, and plan to just resting the next day and a half. I got some hand me down cloth diapers from my cousin, and have been slowly buying the rest I will need. Cousin has super hard water, so I plan on stripping... just haven't gotten that motivated yet.
  • @delujm0 I'm sorry you didn't have as much fun with the kids, hopefully you can get caught up on rest this weekend <3
@nll0803 big hugs ♡ I get the stress surrounding a/s. I hope everything goes well  <3

We had a birthday party today,  I had to go to the store, clean house, do laundry  about the shower,  then a dinner party at our house tonight. I'm tired and wish I had time for a nap

  • @calimom2524 so happy everything is OK now and baby girl is doing good! Rest up and the it easy!

  • Currently in the city on St. Patrick's Day, which, as a native New Yorker who has survived more than one green puke filled parade, not my ideal place to be. I bet we can all guess whose idea this one was.

I feel bad, because the husband isn't bad and DH and I think he realizes his wife kind of sucks.

I wish going home and going to bed was the next step on the agenda.
