Well I'm two days overdue and not dilated at all.  Just had an ultrasound to check on Baby and she's floating around as happy as can be.  All is well; no medical reason to induce so I'm forced to wait.  Anyone else overdue?  Seems like a bunch of us delivered a bit early but I'm the opposite side of the coin.  Can we make this a place for support and / or advice?  Ladies who have already delivered can chime in with tips they used to get labor started =).

I'm getting apprehensive now since I'm already out on leave and feel like the clock is ticking on time I could be spending with my Baby.

Re: Overdue Support Group

  • Have you tried having your membrane stripped? It’s not comfortable but it got my labor going after having it done twice!
  • I was a week overdue with DD, so I feel your pain. Try to get out and do something for yourself. Walking can help, bouncing on a yoga ball can help baby get engaged, sex can help soften the cervix.

I *think* you need to be a little dilated for membrane stripping. At my 40 week appt with DD my Dr was going to, but I was only 1cm so should couldn't get in there to try.

  • Oh yes you’re right @becausescience
So try going on long walks, bouncing on a ball and sleeping on your side!
  • Also, are you effaced at all?

I have been trying all the things ya'll. Membrane stripped yesterday (i was almost 2 cm dilated but baby is still high at -3 station), I bounce on a yoga ball for hours every day, go for long walks with the dog, drink red raspberry tea, and have had sex every day for a week lol. This baby girl is too cozy haha.

@crossfitbabybump I will get a second sweep Monday if no labor yet. Was there a difference between your two sweeps at all??

  • 4 days to my due date and really hope baby won’t make me wait longer! I was a week overdue last time and like you had no medical reason to induce. At one week late my dr felt baby was better off outside and swept my membranes. It definitely started contractions, but I ended up needing pitocin to finish the job. I had also tried all things mentioned and non had worked back then. Hang in there! I hope your labor will start soon and be quick and easy!
  • Also, are you effaced at all?
They said I'm about 60% effaced which is progress but cervix is completely closed.  I've been having painful, consistent Braxton Hicks for the past two days and spotting.  I'm getting exhausted.  It's hard to imagine dealing with this for another five days before I can be induced.

  • @paigew123 thanks!  I was a week late with DD as well and had to be induced so I guess this is just my normal now?  With her I had to start completely from scratch.   At least this time it seems like I'm doing SOMETHING on my own with the cervix softening.  If I end up needing to be induced hopefully it won't be such a long process.  I feel like I just need one small thing to help get things rolling and I'll be ok.  We'll see!

  • @GG620 - there definitely was a difference between the two for me. The second time around was less painful when she did it but the cramping and contractions kicked in faster and I went into labor and had my daughter two days later! I also noticed much more bloody show and had diarrhea after the second sweep. I was only 2 cm when she did the second sweep too and dilated to 3 by the next day. Good luck!!

@citygirl17 - hang in there Momma! Thinking of you!
  • @citygirl17 I'm not quite overdue yet (due date is Sunday), but my mom and sister both had their babies early, so I was convinced I would go early too. I've been doing all the things to try to get labor going too, and so far I've had a whole lot of nothing happening.

I'm planning to ask for a membrane sweep on Monday, but I didn't realize you have to be dilated for that. I was "not dilated at all" this past Monday, so who knows if she'll be able to do it. I really don't mind the physical aspect of being pregnant, but man these last couple of weeks have really messed with my head! Hopefully things get going for us soon!
  • @citygirl17 are your contractions timeable? I didn’t think I was in labor last week and I was. I just thought I was having normal Braxton Hicks but had been having contractions so often I wasn’t feeling them much and they were registering really high on the machine. Good Luck!

@orbmaker I got up and cleaned my whole house the morning before I had DS. I felt great for the first time in weeks.

  • @megpeg they vary. They seem to really pick up more at night and come every 5-10 minutes, but they're only in the front and don't swing around to my back. During the day they space out more but are just as strong. That and the Baby keeps pressing down into my pelvis and I think she must be hitting some kind of nerve. I think I've been having prodomal labor. Getting some even stronger contractions today than yesterday so hopefully I'm on the path to the real thing!

Well ladies....i live right by Philadelphia and they are calling for the worst nor'easter of the year with 12-18 inches of snow over the next 2 days and I'm 2 days overdue. Hospital is about 30 min away, over bridges, etc. I am super nervous....gah....

  • @GG620 our uteruses (uteri?) are just too comfortable I guess! haha I had an appointment last night, and she's thinking possible induction Sunday night, but it isn't scheduled yet. I go back in tomorrow for a BPP and NST. Have they scheduled one for you? Fingers crossed the weather doesn't cause any baby troubles for you!
  • GG620GG620 member
@stlbuckeye132 just got scheduled for induction Sunday morning.

I am kind of struggling with this tbh. I very much wanted a med-free birth. I know I am doing what's best for baby and this doesn't mean I need to get an epidural etc, just tough adjusting your hopes ya know. Still hoping she makes her own appearance before Sunday

  • @gg620 I know exactly how you feel because that was my plan too. I was just crying to MH about it this morning because I feel like my body has failed. Which I know is ridiculous, and there's still time for things to progress on their own. It is hard to adjust though. Hopefully these babies come on their own!
  • @GG620 a lot can happen in 5 days! She still has a chance to decide to come on her own. And even if you do end up being induced, you'll still get a beautiful baby out of the deal.  :)

Hi ladies, I’ve been MIA for a while, but have still loved hearing everyone’s birth stories or almost birth stories! I’m feeling a bit stuck so appreciate any thoughts or advice...I wanted to try for a VBAC, my first baby was a c section after going 11 days overdue, being induced and not progressing enough after 20+ hours of labour.

This time I was hoping baby would just come on time and I’d have a vaginal birth...well I’m 40 weeks plus 6 days and there are no signs of baby making its entrance (head high, no effacement, no cervix shortening or ripening). My question is: would you wait it out a bit longer? How long? Or would you schedule a c section? My midwife and doctor said I can go to 42 weeks but that seems long?! A note that because of having a c section I cannot get induced using cervadil ... thank you in advance for any thoughts advice ideas ?!?!
  • @mountain_girl As long as they're monitering the heartbeat and everything seems normal, 42 weeks should be okay. My mom went to 42 weeks with both my brother and myself. They're the professionals and know what they're doing. I think the reason most people get induced before 42 weeks is because they just don't want to wait.
  • @mountain_girl - I’m with @sarahhedger7. As long as everything is looking good, hang in there until 42 weeks. Let your body have a chance to say it’s ready, even if it does take a little longer. Hang in there!
  • @mountain_girl anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks is normal. It just depends on the person. It messes with you head to be that pregnant but hang in there!

  • @mountain_girl, I figure if you wait until 42 weeks you're at least still keeping the door open for a possible VBAC if that's really what you'd like.

I'm pregnant with my second, and with my first it ended up as a c-section too. I wanted to try for a VBAC to avoid the abdominal surgery, but baby seems pretty big and with how my first labor went, doesn't seem like I'd be successful with a VBAC. So I have a c-section scheduled, but I pushed it out to 41 weeks as I'd rather give baby a chance to decide when to arrive (since normally many doctors like to schedule planned c-sections at 39 weeks to avoid you going into labor on your own). I also figure the extra time in the oven is just extra time for brain/lung development. :)
  • Unless I have LO today, I'm officially part of the overdue group now. I feel like I have to be the last one still pregnant. Everyone has their bundles and are home cuddling them while I sit here late, large, and miserable.  :/ Sorry for complaining, I just wish he was here so bad.
  • @sarahhedger7 - I’m still here! My due date isn’t til Friday so I’m wayyyy behind everyone.
  • Just think, you guys still have all that newborn excitement to look forward to.  I am already starting to get stuff together to go back to work.  Your snuggles are coming up soon.
  • I haven't posted anything on here before, just kinda read for advice and time passing. I was due yesterday and have had 0 contractions. I had several a couple weeks ago and was super swollen while still working so I quit working Monday and have been relaxing around the house. I'm 2cm and 50%. I was so hoping he would come already. 1 day isn't too bad to be overdue, but it's so strange to me that I'm not having any contractions. I've been going on walks, exercise ball, eating pineapple, and nothing's bringing on contractions. I have an appt Tuesday and will schedule and induction for next week if he doesn't come by then. My doctor doesn't want me going past 41 weeks.

@mccurleya Yep I'm In the same boat. So I just keep telling myself that I'll have a baby in my arms by the 31st no matter what. I'm still anxious though.
  • @sarahhedger7 I'm more annoyed than anything because I just want to be done and to hold him. Every little pain I get excited that this might be it and it's not

I wonder how many March babies we are still waiting for! I'm due the 31st. Hoping you all get to hold your babies soon
  • Good luck @mccurleya and all the other mommies still awaiting their squishies!
  • Hi ladies! I’m not due until Thursday but feel over due because my first son came out at 38 weeks and 5 days! I didn’t have any contractions with my first until I was in active labor... now I have been having false alarms since 37 weeks and it’s exhausting!
With my first I was concerned at 37 weeks that I didn’t drop yet so I started doing a group of exercises called the miles circuit... and I think that’s what did it with my first.  I plan to do that starting after Easter if he is not here. You ladies should look it up. Thanks!
  • Ahhh I’m just now joining the overdue crew as of midnight tonight and I think I’m the only one left who hasn’t had her baby??? It’s looking lonely on this side!
