BCP suppressing ovaries during IVF protocol?

A fellow AMA/DOR bumpie shared this piece of info with me so I researched it and found an article that concurred with her statement. If your RE put you on BCP as part of your IVF protocol and found that it suppressed your ovaries, what did they recommend next? 

I have my consult 3/19 and want to gather as much info as possible before then! Thanks for your feedback!

Most of us get on BC before starting the cycle. But once on stims there is no BC. I can't imagine being on it before retrieval.

I went on BC for 14 days or so before starting my shots, and after stimulation had 36 eggs (32 mature) and 27 fertilized. I wouldn't worry too much about it, they do this with tons of women around the world. (Note: I was on high doses of meds to achieve these #s).

My last three cycles (4-6) have been natural start microdose lupron.  I’m 40 if you can’t see my signature (I’m almost always on mobile/the app myself).  My first cycle last year I did BCP before, and my second and third cycles were luteal lupron.  My history is in my signature, but we’ve had mixed results both with and without suppression prior to starting stims.  Natural start is a lot quicker though - I did two retrievals last month (and February was short - it’s amazing how quickly that clinic takes my money .

Hard to say because the RE, protocol, and lab changed between cycles 3 & 4 though - with first RE we got 1 normal from 8 blasts to test in 3 cycles, with current we got 6 normals from 14 blasts to test in 3 cycles (also inseminated frozen eggs from right after I turned 35 and that disappointingly yielded only one abnormal blast).

I had my first IVF cancelled because I was on BC for two weeks and it suppressed me. I have lower AMH for my age. My AFC went from 13/14 to 8 at baseline. Then we only got 2 follicles to grow with high stims, so we converted to IUI. My second IVF was estrogen priming and the MDL protocol. It didn't work good for me, but it does for some with low AMH. IVF #3 I did estrogen priming and then max stims (450 follistim and 150 menopur) with antagonist and was able to retrieve 12 eggs, 8 mature. Sometimes its really just a guessing game for the right protocol, but if you have lower AMH/lower AFC, I would advise estrogen priming or natural start vs being on BC. Good luck!

@mich_elle as I told you on the other thread I responded poorly compared to my previous IVF. Both times I was on BCP prior. But the dr thinks that this time it suppressed my ovaries and recommended to maybe stop and do a different protocol without BCP and with Lupron. Not sure of the exact protocol.

I was on the normal protocol of BCP for my first 2 cycles. For my third cycle my RE changed the protocol  -- this time around I was on estrace starting 10 days after ovulation followed by 3 nightly ganirelix injections (then I got AF the following day). I am on day 3 of stims now so I''m not sure it helped but I will say that I had more follicles at my baseline then I did my other 2 IVF cycles. Like PP suggested though, I wouldn't read too much into it. My RE likely just changed mine because we were on our third and final try so we were basically just grasping at straws trying to come up with a different protocol that might work for me. GL!
