Just curious on the general reaction to Mabel, I’m currently in love with it but get it’s not for everyone

Re: Mabel

  • I like Mabel, I think it's charming.

I voted for Mabel Cecelia, I think it flows well, and while I do also like Ruth, I think with Mabel it skews "old" while Cecelia keeps it more 2018.
  • I like it a lot. I voted for Mabel Francis, but had a hard time picking.  Mabel Ruby is the only one that doesn’t sound as nice as to me as the other choices.

  • It’s not my style but I bet it would be cute on a little girl. I can see a teenager disliking it, but what do I know.

That’s was I was thinking too, I thought the teen years and maybe 20’s might be iffy, since it’s pretty cutsey. My name is Maggie and really hated it at a teen
  • I want to like Mabel and usually like the old names that are coming back, but it does feel a bit too old ladyish for me to use it in real life.  I voted Mabel Cecelia because Cecilia is more delicate and balances it out nicely
  • I think it sounds best with Ruth.
  • I think it is a very ugly name, especially on a little girl. I know old lady names are all the rage....but this is awful.
  • I really like Mabel and the nickname Mae.
  • Not my favorite...I think some "little old lady names" translate ok these days but Mabel just doesn't. How about:

    Hazel
    Maybelle
    Celia
    Beatrice
    Pearl
    Viola
    Delia

I think Maybelle is so much cuter than Mabel.

  • I LOVE Mabel.   It's one of our top contenders right now.   And,  for the record,  I have known a toddler and a teen (I teach middle school) named Mabel,  and they were both darling. cantrellja said:

Maybelle is too Maybelline for me.

Maybelle sounds very southern or like a cartoon cow to me

    Agree about the southern cow
  • And you don't think Mabel sounds like Maybelline?

  • I really like the name Mabel. I think it is just the right amount of old lady cuteness. Another name to throw in as a contender is Marybelle.
