Re: Appointments W/O 2/26

  • I have my 16 week one tomorrow even though I am 17 weeks because Dr. was on vacay.  Just heartbeat and another genetic blood draw for something that I don't remember doing the first time around 5 years ago LOL

  • I have one tomorrow. I’m slightly nervous to see how much weight I’ve gained. I think we’ll be scheduling my anatomy scan, so that’s exciting. Unless I get picked for jury duty today. Then I guess I’ll have to change it.

  • @lalala2004 I’m pretty sure you don’t have to go to jury duty if you’re pregnant? I’d ask! I remember when my son was a few months old I got called so I called them and told them I was nursing my son. They told me to write a letter and that I would be exempt for something like three years per child!

I have an an appointment next Monday. I’ll be 16 weeks, it’s to check my cervical length. The good news is I get an ultrasound :)
DS born 04/22/15, Pregnant again 03/01/17 however loss due to PPROM at 20+6 weeks now TTC rainbow
  • Appointment this afternoon! Nothing big - pee in a cup, doppler (which will be a first!), questions and that's it. My thyroid levels are a bit wacky so I think I'll be scheduled for another blood draw and another 24 hour urine culture. Fun times.

  • I have an appointment on the 28th, regular OB and ultrasound (I'm assuming). Definitely going to ask about my scary spell from last Thursday. So I need to call and talk to my OB's nurse to ask about getting some blood draws to check for anemia or whatever else they think I might need after listening to my symptoms.

I still can't believe my GP brushed me off when I called and spoke to her nurse. The nurse called back to tell me that my GP just said it was just a "common pregnancy symptom". I get pregnancy fatigue, I get being out of breath carrying a full laundry basket, I understand that. This was not that. I'm not going to waste both of our times over silly stuff. If I contact you, it means it's out of the ordinary for me and I want you to take it seriously. Grr.

There are different exemptions for each state and county. The only exemption I could potentially have right now would be if you don’t have childcare. But since DH isn’t working right now I can’t use that as a valid excuse. For most things a judge would likely excuse you for, you still have to show up and talk to the judge about it. But honestly, I’m not one to try and get out of it even if I could. I think jury service is very important, and it’s sad that people hate it so much. If I were accused of a crime, I wouldn’t want 12 people who don’t want to be there deciding my fate. This is why lawyers love teachers. Especially Social Studies teachers.

ETA: the only thing that I hate is that last time I was called, they literally picked no one, so we all sat around for 2 hours and sent us all home. I don’t like wasting my time. I could be at work getting paid a lot more!

  • @lalala2004 - it's so admirable to hear someone talking about jury duty the way you do! I've been hoping to get notified of jury duty forever and no luck here. I admittedly watch too much Good Wife / Law and Order so I have this really impressive idea of what a trial will be like and I want to see it

I’ve been called a lot, only served on an actual jury once. The last time I was in a jury pool, so many people claimed they couldn’t set apart their biases that they literally didn’t have enough people for a jury. That makes me so ragey. Wastes taxpayer money and is another day of delayed justice for the plaintiff and defendant.

Trials are a lot different than on TV. They let lawyers get away with way too much. It’s interesting, because some lawyers feel like the interest in trials and crime in pop culture has made it difficult to win over a jury unless you have DNA or crazy amounts of
evidence, so jury trials aren’t as common anymore, and most try and settle out of court.

  • I have a regular OB appointment today too. I've been having terrible pain on my right side so it's either a cyst or adhesions (scar tissue) from previous surgeries is already sticking to my uterus which is going to make for a very painful remainder of pregnancy if it's already happening this early. It didn't happen with DS2 until third tri so I'm actually hoping it's a cyst.

  • I have my normal double ob/mfm apt. Was supposed to get my 16 week level 2 ultrasound but scheduling screwed up and the next time they have time is next Tuesday. Every two weeks to the ob/mfm has been time consuming, but minimally getting a normal quick ultrasound each time has been worth it. Only positive of being high risk I suppose.
  • Had my weekly appt with my OB today. All is good. Found the hb on the doppler super quickly. I adore my doctor, he's such a brash and grumpy old man type, but he really seems to have a soft spot for me, and keeps saying that he's crossing everything that I am able to have a healthy pregnancy. He's so sweet.

  • Mine is Friday. As far as weight, I always stand on the scale backwards. I don’t need to know. No, thank you. I cannot wait to schedule my 20 week US. Hoping they can do it a few days early so SO can attend.
  • 16 week appointment went well today! He showed DH how the top of my fundus is right below my belly button and how it feels firmer than the rest of my tummy so we thought that was cool. I’m gonna pull back on taking prenatal vitamins for about two weeks to see if my bowel movements aren’t as loose if I stop them. Food has just been running thru me! Ugh! And I have a pretty balanced diet. I haven’t gained too much weight considering I eat what I want so I’m super happy about that.  FHR was about 168/170, and he found it in like 2 seconds. Next appointment is late March and I’m excited to have the anatomy scan so I can see my boy!!
  • Sure enough, she said something about my weight. She never said anything last pregnancy, and I gained 50 lbs! I had gained more total by this time last pregnancy, so I think it’s just that I gained more from weeks 12-16 then I did from weeks 8-12. And as much as I tell people not to let it bother them, of course it bothers me. The number didn’t bother me, her saying something about it did. I can’t go back and lose the weight. I can only do the best I can from here on out, but the sad thing is, I don’t care if I gain. I just don’t want her to say anything to me again. :(

@lalala2004 I think my doctor is going to say something to me next week as well. I was sick first tri (as y’all probably know) and then got the flu so when I went in at almost 16 weeks I hadn’t gained any. Well I’m pretty sure in 4 weeks I’ve probably gained all that I should have gained during the whole pregnancy so I’m thinking she’s going to say something about how rapid it was. I’m not looking forward to it.

ETA: I also don’t care about gaining but I just don’t want to be lectured!

I’m sorry. I would feel the same. Each baby I put it on quicker and I put on more. I honestly don’t know that I’ve ever done anything differently besides get older. It’s frustrating.

Try not to let it get you down. Tomorrow is another day. Hugs.
  • Thanks, y’all. I really didn’t expect it since she didn’t say anything my whole last pregnancy. I know it’s better for me not to gain a ton of weight, and this will make me watch it. So mission accomplished I guess. I just didn’t expect to feel so bad about it.

  • @lalala2004 I would be ticked too! I actually left an ob because of weight related comments. She tried telling me I was in jeopardy of not being able to have the type of birth I wanted if I gained too much weight. Their office was terrible and I didn't like other stuff she did but that was the last straw. I switched to a midwife practice at like 30 weeks and they've never said a single weight comment. I gained more than the recommended, about 45-50 pounds but baby was healthy and no gd.

So, I go in for a non routine appointment today. I ask to see an ob because I think there's something seriously wrong with me. Constant dizziness or vertigo for the last week that doesn't let up. Not just spells but completely ongoing. So I describe everything and how I'm losing function in my left arm, can't write hardly. DH is there holding on to me while we walk down the hallway so I don't fall. She tells me it sounds like normal pg dizziness but the arm thing has her worried so I should see a neurologist. The lady who checks me out has the contact info. Make the call as soon as we leave and they can't see me for another week. I can't walk without holding on to the wall, the only position that feels ok is laying down and unfortunately I can't do that all day although it would be kinda nice. So I call the ob back and leave a message for the nurse with what happened. She calls back and says she spoke with the doc who saw me and it isn't really urgent and a week sounds fine. Wtf?? So they give me two other neurologists I can try or go to triage. Neither of those have sooner availability. I realize that they're busy with patients for a reason but this isn't letting up and I'm terrified. I'll probably just go into triage or the ER and get some help there.

    Sorry thst was long!

  • @Rocknrollmom that’s very scary! I hope you get it figured out. I know it sounds crazy, but do you go to a chiropractor? My thought was maybe something is pressing on a nerve. I’m obviously not a doctor or anything, but I haven’t had a lot of luck with doctors when it comes to more mysterious symptoms they can’t just give you a drug for.

  • Thanks guys! i'm headed over there in a few minutes, once I pull myself away from work here.

@lalala2004 I haven't, but I've definitely considered trying that or acupuncture if I can't get any relief or answers at the hospital.I wasn't sure if baby was even big enough at 14 weeks to be pressing on a nerve but I think it is totally worth a shot.

@mrsbubbles-2 Yes! It all started with a migraine. I wouldn't be so worried if it was just a few dizzy spells during or after the migraine but it doesn't let up at all. I don't know if that is normal with migraines or not, especially combined with whatever my arm is doing now.

@brzvice How is your MS with pregnancy? Hoping you are doing well too!

    Hello from Detroit!

  • @rocknrollmom hope you get answers fast! Sounds almost like a hemiplegic migraine without the pain or something. I personally sometimes have some weird stroke-like symptoms with migraines (droopy face, loss of feeling on one side of body, etc.) but have never been diagnosed officially with hemplegic migraines. Regardless -- I am glad you're getting checked out sooner rather than later. I agree this is worth the ER trip.

@lalala2004 I am so nervous about being scolded by the doctor. I too had gained more by this time last pregnancy but I gained much more since last appointment than I did the first few weeks. I am working out most days of the week and eating reasonably, for the most part. We've had some events/parties/dinners that have kind of derailed the decent eating but, I'm not diving head-first into bad food. Plus, I know I have some kind of eating disorder. I have a terrible relationship with food in general. I used to weigh over 100 pounds more and I can't look at a salad without worrying about the calorie content .... so I don't need to be scolded about anything while I am trying to sustain another life in my body! Ugh! I so get it!!! The weight gain doesn't bother me as much as someone SAYING something about it.

And I can't remember who said it but someone above said they left an OB for saying "if you gain too much weight you won't have the birth you want" ... maybe ... but I gained 60 last time and only pushed for 12 minutes, so...I call BS.
  • @rocknrollmom the way my chiro explained it to me, it’s more from the relaxin at his stage. Your joints and spine can fall out of alignment easier, so something just may be out of place and hitting a nerve or ligament. That’s what happens with sciatica. I hope that it’s something as simple as that, because any other explanation would likely be a lot more scary!

@Firemanswife11 I was surprised by my reaction because I’ve never really had too many issues with food and weight, other than your typical yo-yo dieting. So it’s been a struggle, but I’ve never had such an emotional reaction. I don’t know what’s wrong with me right now. Everything made me cry yesterday. I hope that when the weather gets better that will help.

  • All checked in and waiting in my little exam room for the doctor. 50 minutes past my appointment time. *taps fingers*

BP was 110/70, good. Urine test strip was no funky colors, good. And I've lost 10 lbs from my last visit, wtf.

I guess the struggle of eating properly on a schedule is good for more than just my blood sugar. Either that or my body finally figured out what it was supposed to be doing.
  • I had my appointment earlier this week and it went really well. I had my 16 week ultrasound with the MFM and both babies were cooperative.  One was transverse and taking up all the room and the other was doing a handstand and occasionally kicking the other twin in the head.    I had only gained 3lbs in the first 12 weeks, but somehow I managed (eating, duh) to put on 7lbs over the past four weeks. My doctor said I was on track, although it scared me as I haven't been doing much differently as I always eat more frequently, but have smaller meals.

@lanieslumpia - I had very similar issues (and still do kinda) regarding prenatals and went off of them for a few weeks. My ob gave me a bunch of samples to try out some other types.  I'm hoping that one of them helps slow things down.  You might want to ask if they have any samples of prenatals that might be easier (or low-dose iron).
  • Any update @rocknrollmom

  • I had a  Great appointment today and by great I mean it was totally boring. I love my doctor. He’s so easy going. And I turn backwards on the scale because I hate the numbers and the nurse was like you are doing fine. You have nothing to worry about. I love them.
  • I gor yelled at for losing too much weight. So far, from pre-pregnancy, I have lost 17 pounds. Having to stop my crohns meds is really wrecking havoc. I was considered overweight prior to getting pregnant, but now fall to a normal bmi. Supplementing with boost/ensure isn't helping. Worst case scenario is picc line and tpn, but that will only be if baby continues to measure behind. Ultrasound again next tuesday since baby wouldnt sit still for minor measurements today. Come on little buddy, grow!
