Re: TTTC Check 02/21/2018

  • QOTW: Any gardening plans this year? Yes, I love to garden! After a little bit of cold weather, my pansies are finally coming back, so will wait to change them out in a couple of months.

  • QOTW: I'm not a gardener.  My goal is to keep the weeds at bay with the plants that come back and maybe put some mulch down to spruce it up a bit.  And trim back the fountain grass - It was there when we moved in, I am not a fan of this stuff at all.  I would like to maintain a little herb garden though  (Sorry to sound like a big gardening grump)

  • I hope everyone's week is going well. Quick update for me: yesterday I had my first blood work and u/s for this cycle and my OB was pleased with the progress. I didn't realize how high my E2 level was last time around - it was 854 after 7 days of injections - and she was much happier with it this time at 274. U/S showed 4 follicles with 1 dominant (I think) at almost 14mm. Did an injection last night and will do another tonight with blood work and u/s again tomorrow. Hoping I can trigger tomorrow or Friday with lots of BD this weekend!

QOTW: Any gardening plans this year?
Haha I do NOT have a green thumb and have successfully killed every plant brought into our place in the last 7 years. We also live in an apartment, so we don't have a garden but DH did manage to grow cherry tomatoes, basil and rosemary last summer on the terrace so I suspect we will try it again this year.
    Me: 37 DH: 35
    Married since February 2012
    TTC since February 2017
10 natural cycles = all BFN
Dx: weak ovulation with possible LPD; Rx: Clomid (4 rounds); Puregon + Ovidrel + TI (3 rounds)
7 medicated cycles (see above) = BFN
During the last medicated cycle, they found a small cyst on an ovary and ordered an MRI to check for endometriosis
May 2018 switched to an RE and did more testing while trying naturally
    8 natural cycles = BFN
Dx: AMA, endometriosis/endometrioma, DOR; Rx: IVF
    October 2018, IVF #1 = 4 ER, 2 M, 1 F
    10/25/18 Transfer of 1, 8-cell 3-day embryo = CP :'(
  • @mirabelle33 Great progress! Good luck this weekend!

@wishing-and-hoping Congratulations!! Hoping for good bloodwork today!

I triggered last night and ER is tomorrow. I am decidedly bloated and uncomfortable, moreso than last time for some reason. Hopefully a good reason! We’ve got ~14 follies that should be mature. If all goes to our current plan, i’ll transfer Sunday or Tuesday.

QOTW We’re apartment dwellers but benign neglect seems to be working for my basil. My office plants are doing really well, but I also pay more attention to them. Watering them with spring water from the cooler probably doesn’t hurt.
  • @Bababatty - FX for your ER!!

@mirabelle33 - glad to hear all is going well!

AFM: in the dreaded TWW. Right now I'm just 2dp5dt.

QOTW: No gardening plans for us. We are also apartment dwellers. But if we had a garden, I would go to town!
  • @bababatty good luck with ER!

@funkykey keeping fx for you! When is your beta - in a week?

@mirabelle33 sounds like you’ve got a nice bunch of follies!

AFM WFAF who is due tomorrow. This cycle was Trying on our own whilst we finish the additional testing the new RE wants. Next cycle will be the same. Fx we can restart IVF in a month.

QOTW we actually plan a complete terrace and garden remodel as the old garden had been let to go wild and DH got a bit too happy with an axe end of last year chopping down bushes the landscape gardener said were beyond recovery. To be honest I’m dreading it. Also because I now don’t want t spend on the garden until we know how many more rounds of IVF we will need.

Fav Quote: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return

  • Well I had my first appt with the RE today. Will be starting provera to bring on AF and then it's more blood work and a HSG for me. DH has to do another SA as the RE wants to test the genetic make up of the sperm. So it looks like this month will be just more testing.

I'm a little nervous about the HSG. Does it hurt?

QOTW: I try to plants every year but they always die. Last year I even managed to kill my aloe plant and I thought those things were indestructible
  • @meganttc3 For me the HSG was uncomfortable. I'd make sure to take some tylenol beforehand to help. At the end of the test, to me felt like pjs symptoms, but they quickly went away.

@Bababatty I hope your ER goes well today and that you feel better after a day of rest. Fx for good results!!

@funkykey sending good vibes your way and hope you can find some fun ways to pass the TWW. When is your beta?

@emmasemm hoping AF stays away, but it's always good to have a plan and it sounds like you're making some good progress.

@meganttc3 good luck with all the testing! I know for me, while it was nerve wracking to go through, it was also a relief after it was done. The HSG was uncomfortable, but it was over pretty quickly and afterward I just had some mild cramping and spotting. I didn't take anything beforehand, but if I were to do it again, I would probably take tylenol.

ETA because I thought of a question. For those of you that have done injectables or stimmed for IVF - have you ever experienced lower back pain prior to ovulation? I feel like I always get a little bit of back pain around ovulation time, but it's a lot more noticeable this time. Just wondering if it's typical or not. TIA :)

  • @meganttc3 I'll echo what the other ladies have said on the HSG.  Take a good dose of Tylenol beforehand.  There's mild discomfort in my experience but nothing horrible.  Passes quickly.  Good luck with all the testing.

@mirabelle33 I remember complaining to my DH about my lower back during my stim cycle.  I didn't make the connection at the time - just thought I was sitting too much b/c I was off work, but it could be related.

  • @meganttc3 I didn't find it painful, some discomfort during the procedure but nothing afterwards.  Did take 800mg ibuprofen as instructed by my clinic.

well my bloodwork was less than ideal... HCG was 26 and progesterone 19.5
I guess any HCG above 5 is pregnant but a low number can signal a CP
took a test this AM, it was faint.  The one I took yesterday was a digital so can't compare the two.

So basically I'm in agony until results tomorrow.  Have been sending up so many prayers...

  • @mirabelle33 Are you doing IVF? I know with IVF they will give you another shot to stop ovulation from happening so eggs can further mature til trigger. Any time when I take shots / hormones, I get some lower back discomfort along the way. I wouldn't worry too much about it. :)

  • @ChristenMA83 ok, thanks! I'm pretty sure it is related in my case because I've had some mild back pain around ovulation before, but it's just more noticeable this time.

@kristimh80 Not IVF, just injectables and a trigger shot. Sounds like back pain is fairly common with stim cycles, so I'm not going to worry about it. I'm pretty sure it will go away after ovulation and come back just before AF :D

  • @Bababatty I hope your ER went well today!

AFM it's CD13.  Triggering tonight, IUI Saturday morning.  DH loves it when it's Saturday mornings--much less stressful to rush around and get to work.

We almost got out of this house sale with minimal repairs, but then our city decided (as of Feb 1) to require an Occupancy Permit Inspection.  So we're paying a guy to do about 2 dozen dumb little fixes around the house--swapping out electrical outlets, patching drywall, fixing a broken sliding door latch (the broken latch has fallen down inside the door, so that's a special treat).  Silly me I assumed "occupancy permit" was just going to be "is there a ceiling and 4 walls."  Ugh.  But honestly it's a good distraction from the fact that this is the last IUI.  I got a little panicky when I went in for the ultrasound yesterday--realizing this was the final time I'd go through this process.  And I'm sure I'll get emotional again later, but for now I'm mostly relieved to be reaching the end of treatment.  We're both just emotionally exhausted.

QOTW: Hellzzzz to the no.  I don't even like plants in my office b/c they require me to remember to water them.  We paid a guy to rip up all the plants (they were dead anyway) that were in the gardens surrounding our house--it just makes it look a lot cleaner.  You're probably beginning to see why we aren't cut out for home ownership.  ;)

  • @wishing-and-hoping I hope your numbers rise soon. When do you go get tested again?

@Bababatty  how did the ER go?

@soehlerk I understand not being cut out for owning your own home. We just ably or how 6 months ago and it sucks having to deal with all the repairs and upkeep. DH is in charge of that mess because I sure wouldn't know what to do.
  • @emmasemm - FX you can restart IVF soon. And while I totally understand your hesitance to take on a big landscaping project, part of me is super, super excited for you... Even if you end up delaying the project! Honestly, I have been planning gardens on Pinterest for years!!! (We live somewhere really expensive, so having a little yard would mean we'd made it, you know?)

@wishing-and-hoping - Oh no! That would be agonizing! Really hoping you get good news today, and FX for you!

@soehlerk - good luck tomorrow! FX!

    @Kim41313 - CONGRATULATIONS!!

@Bababatty - I am so anxiously awaiting your results, and have even been stalking you on another thread. FX FX FX for great fertilization results and that these next few days you get lots of beautiful, chromosomally normal embies to blast!

  • well hcg was 21 today so this is a CP  :'(

  • @wishing-and-hoping I’m so sorry! Lots and lots of creepy internet hugs. CPs are devastating. Take care of yourself.  <3<3<3

You are all so sweet to check in on me! The ER itself was a bit rough, but that’s because we got 19 eggs!! We were ecstatic—well, I mostly wanted to either throw up or sleep, but you know, excited, too. Found out yesterday that 15 were mature and 13 fertilized! So, so happy right now, and so glad we changed clinics. We’re looking at a Day 3 Transfer tomorrow—my clinic schedules everyone for Day 3 and pushes to Day 5 depending, so i’ll Know more tomorrow. This is my third transfer so I’m moderating my expectations, but still hopeful.
  • @Bababatty - great news! Rooting for you and hoping you're getting some rest this weekend!
  • Hey y’all!!!!

@Bababatty that is so great!!!!!!!!! FX!!!!!!!

@wishing-and-hoping I am so sorry, just the worst!  I hope you can get some good rest this weekend, sending you lots of love!

AFM, had my last test today, CD21.  (Probably a waste, I don’t think I’ve ovulated yet...) We go in Monday for our talk with the nutritionist about my glucose tests, and hubs is doing his tests then, too.  Then it’s a new kind of TWW until our meeting with the doctor to go over all results and hear his plan!!!!

  • @BWhitta That's great news! Hopefully they'll come up with a good plan for you to get started on. I never ovulate on my own, or it's once every blue moon so I feel your pain! I had no symptoms of PCOS, besides having a lot of follicles on my ovaries. So never knew I had it, but guess that can cause no ovulation, or a low % of it happening.

  • CD 21 here....only 11 more days before I can test due to taking the support shot....but who’s counting?!?! I’m not very optimistic that this cycle was successful however. Right around ovulation, I got a urinary tract infection and a yeast infection. It was so ridiculously painful and BDing was not done as frequently as I would have liked.

No gardening plans! Just not my thing. I like looking at flowers from a far but I touch them and they die, lol.

@wishing-and-hoping So sorry! I was rooting for you. I know first hand how painful a loss can be.
  • @Bababatty congrats! Those are great numbers. Fx crossed for a smooth transfer. Keep us posted!!

@BWhitta Yay for coming to the end of your testing! I hope the next two weeks will go very quickly for you :)

@mrsjcrane so sorry to hear about those infections around ovulation time. How frustrating (and painful)! I had frequent yeast infections on bcp so I can relate to how uncomfortable it is :( Fx you were able to BD just enough this time!

  • AFM, I triggered on Friday night with BD on Sat morning and Sun morning. I'm thinking of BD'ing one more time Sun night with about 12 hours in between. Any thoughts? DH's SA was normal. I figure it can't hurt and could maybe help a little. Those doing TI or IUI, how far apart do you BD? Sorry if TMI and I realize I am probably overthinking it :#

  • @mirabelle33 I’d say BDing on Sunday night can’t hurt. For the IUIs (which were in the morning) we were always told to BD that night, too. Of course, we have MFI so I doubt that helped at all, but for you it could.  :)

AFM Transfer pushed to day 5 (Tuesday), which means they’re happy with how our little embies are growing. We now have 8 of 8 cells or higher. Praying they keep growing!

  • @BWhitta - OMG.

One time, I was actually an accomplice to that. DH was out of town, so my sister came to meet me after my hysteroscopy, because I was worried about getting bad news. At the time, she was on maternity leave with her 4-month-old and she was like: "How 'bout I come and just wait with you for the whole thing?"

Me: "No! Only come at the end and pick me up, because none of the other women there want to see your baby!"

But then the doctor ran 40 - FORTY - minutes late, so my sister and her baby were in the waiting area for an extra half an hour. I was pretty anxious the whole time, thinking: "Oh no, those poor women seeing that smiley baby". Especially because we'd worked so hard to plan it so she'd only be there for like 5 minutes, max. We thought, if anything, I'd wait for her.

It was really nice to see her when I got out and had bad news. I was really glad she was there - and she took one look at my face and knew it was bad, and then took me out for drinks.

I dunno, I kind of get it, like why you'd have to bring a baby, on occasion. But it should be rare!

  • @BWhitta OMG I feel your pain. At least at the IVF Suite where they do the ER and transfer, my clinic says explicitly no children. Not so much at the clinics during monitoring. Toddlers galore. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that today!!
  • Just re-reading my comment and thought I should clarify: I hate it when I see babies at the clinics, even when it's a baby I love. And the one time I was part of it, of the countless times I've been to my clinic, it was special circumstances and I was panicked the whole time. I felt a lot of shame for being even part of it, even in extenuating circumstances!

I kept thinking: "What if someone here is getting really bad news from their doctor, like reviewing why their 3rd transfer failed, and they come out into the waiting room and see this smiling baby?" It'd be such a slap in the face!

I understand how it could happen - eg. a mom with secondary infertility and the babysitter calls in sick. Or in a situation like mine. But it should be far more rare than it is! And the people who do it should at least have the decency to be apologetic!
  • @funkykey I understood what you were saying—rare is totally fine! And in your case you went above and beyond to try and ensure the baby would be in the room for a limited time. Plus, emergencies do happen, which is understandable.

I try to assume that the person with the toddler is an IF warrior and back for a second round of IF treatments—with varying degrees of success given how prevalent the toddler presence is and my mood on any given day.  :D
  • @funkykey that is totally understandable and I COMPLETELY understand!!!!!! I appreciate your over-explaining, haha.  Girlfriend, you know I get it!  I too try to understand that she has dealt with IF so I try to give her grace...but on the other hand, she should know better!  My husband got an earful, haha.

AFM, not great news from the doctor yesterday.  I went in just for my glucose results, which showed that I am definitely hypoglycemic, but not necessarily insulin resistant.  Just another time that my test results don’t really make any sense.  I asked her to pull my CD3 labs bc I have been nervous about getting my AMH back and as soon as she looked at them she said “I won’t lie to you, it’s not good.”  UGH.  I know AMH isnt everything but I just finally got PCOS definitively diagnosed AND my AMH is low???  1.16...I know that’s not terrible, but ugh.  We go back next week to go over alllll of our tests and get a plan of action.  I’m also low on B12 and vitamin D, high testosterone and low estrogen...which they hope will level out as I stick to this diet.  So just more waiting until next Wednesday for that!
