Cyst on Umbilical Cord

Hi everyone! I'm 14 weeks and 6 days, so exciting! But last week I went for an ultrasound and my doctor found a cyst on my baby's umbilical cord...she said it's nothing to really worry about but she wants me to get a level 2 ultrasound around 18 weeks. I was just wondering if anybody else is going through the same thing or anything similar....bc I'm kinda freaking out a little :/

Re: Cyst on Umbilical Cord

  • @colbymac28 - I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm not going to say don't worry because worrying is totally natural when you get unexpected news. I will say, however, that I would feel just a bit better if my doc said it's nothing that she's worried about. I don't have any experience but please keep us posted. I've got my fingers crossed that it is something that will resolve itself in time.

  • There are a lot of cases of cysts found various places, and really the doctors don’t know why, and they generally just go away on their own. My son had some on his brain and I had several level 2 scans. It didn’t turn out to be anything and my son is perfectly healthy. OBs deal with more malpractice suits than any other kind of
doctor, so they are usually extra careful to play it safe. If they said they weren’t concerned, I would try not to worry!

My son had a soft marker (echogenic focus) on his heart that was detected during our anatomy scan. We had the level two ultrasound and did the Harmony Test as follow up. I know it's nerve wracking but if your doctor said it's nothing to really worry about then please take their word for it. If it were more serious, they would be obligated to let you know. It's not at all uncommon for these issues to present themselves.

Also, I notice you are new here! You should definitely read the pinned posts if you haven't already. You should also post in the Introduction Thread so we can get to know you! Welcome!

  • @colbymac28 no experience on cysts but I  know how  worrisome it is hearing unexpected news. Just try to focus on all the good things you saw from the scan (healthy heart, good measurements etc.) And trust your Dr.s experience.

@ecwk my LO also had one echogenic focus found in the left ventricle of her heart. Went for level two ultrasound which showed no other concerns. Perfectly healthy little girl now! They are actually more common then I originally thought, if the next babe has one show I won't work myself up about it this time.

  • @brzvice
Same! I will be much calmer this time. DS's one was still there at the anatomy scan but no other concerns! He is perfectly healthy too, thank God. Glad your LO is perfectly healthy also!
