PCOS-ers February Check In

Since there's a few of us who experience PCOS, but don't necessarily fall into PAIF/PGAL I thought I'd start a board for us.

A few things to start off the discussion

- Are you on Metformin or a different medication to help you manage your PCOS/Infertility?

- Any symptoms that are related to your PCOS?

Re: PCOS-ers February Check In

  • I've been on Met for about 3 years now and plan to continue. I was at 1000mg 2x a day, but I've dropped my morning dose to 500mg since I was experiencing blood sugar drops. It helps me manage my weight overall.

I swear my already bad hormonal acne is even worse, the same with my facial hair growth.

I take Met as well and have been on it about three years too. I was able to have my first with the help of Met and clomid. This time around I tried Soy Iso instead of clomid to see if it would help me ovulate, and it seems to have worked! I was super surprised because my bbt chart was all kinds of wonky this time due to fever from being sick and everything else.

I dont really have any symptoms right now which sort of freaks me out. But I just got my hcg back and I went from 54 on the 12th 14dpo at 8am to 107.8 today (the 14th) at 7am. Still trying to stay positive but pcos is scary because all you read about is the higher chances of things going wrong. I feel like I defied all odds last time, Fx for this time too.
  • Found out I had pcos about 3 years into trying to conceive. Did some basic testing and they we decided that would be our stopping point with the tests etc and if we got pregnant great, if not, we were OK with it. Here we are two years later!
No meds except after finding out we were pregnant they saw my progesterone was lower than they wanted so I am on a one oral (thank goodness!) dose per night.
  • I figured that our biggest struggle would be getting pregnant (between my PCOS and the hubby's vasectomy reversal), so I'm not as worried about it not sticking. DH is a bit more worried than I am, but his ex lost her first one at about 6 weeks.
  • I had all the signs (facial/ tummy hair, hunger, tummy bloat and hard to lose weight and dark skin on neck inner thighs) but my family doctor didn't think I had PCOS, even with sending me for an ultrasound and me missing my period for 4 months coming off BC. So we tried for 2 years before asking to be refer to a fertility clinic. I was using ovulation kits and was ovulating so things didn't make sense.

The Dr. there took one look at my ultrasound and said I had PCOS. DH also has 29% sperm DNA fragmentation, so our chance were reduced on both sides. Dr. gave me MET 500 mg 3 x daily. I lost 10 lbs within 3 months.
We did one round of cycle monitoring and got pregnant! We were prepared to do IUI but decided not to go down the IVF route if it came to that.

I didn't realize there was a higher change of MC with PCOS so now I'm a bit worried, but lets hope we all get sticky beans!

  • My primary Dr sent me to an endocrinologist to check my thyroid, by the end of the appt the Dr said she doubted anything was wrong with my thyroid but was pretty sure I had PCOS. She sent me for blood work and that confirmed it. I have insulin resistance which sucks.
  • I was 14 when I got sent to an endo and diagnosed. Put on birth control immediately and my other drs just went with it. I stayed in it until I started ttc at 22 with my husband.

I didn’t mean to worry anyone. I think the biggest thing that makes us a little riskier early on is the insulin resistance messes with hormones. Definitely just have your Dr check your progesterone is all! I am totally a worrier all the time, it’s like my constant state. Sorry!
  • Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago, after I came off birth control due to migraines and talked to my obgyn about my crazy cycles. I have a lot of the usual symptoms but luckily, I don't seem to be insulin resistant. I have an endocrinologist too and my thyroid is funky sometimes, which she says could be connected to PCOS. So far I've been able to get by without meds, except for spironolactone before TTC to help with acne.

The only PCOS symptom I've noticed since getting pregnant is the acne. I thought it was bad while I was TTC and stopped taking the spironolactone, but omg. It is so much worse now!
  • Hello ladies! I wasn't officially diagnosed with PCOS until after i had gotten pregnant and started seeing my OBGYN. I had been to several doctors over the years prior and no one thought I had it. It was a general consensus that I was over weight ( I am, no denying that) and otherwise I was fine. I almost cried when my OBGYN said that's what I have because someone finally got it! She was shocked that we had conceived naturally ( so we're we as we had been unsuccessful over the previous 4.5 years! Lol) and here we are pregnant again naturally. I've never been on metformin but would like to lookninto it after i have this baby it help manage my symptoms.
  • Hey!
It's so nice to hear your stories, and know that others are dealing with similar things.

I got diagnosed after trying for a year, then having a really heavy bleeding and then nothing for 3 months. I was lucky to get sent to a specialist straight away who I have been seeing since. He just had a quick look with the ultra sound and 5 min later it felt like he gave an explanation to so many things in my life. I have always felt like I was struggling with my weight and currently I am definitely bigger than I would like to be for my health (otherwise I'm all for beautiful curves).

I got put on the hormone letrozol to get the ovulation going, and after that I got pregnant as soon as we timed it! It was such a relief even to know that I was able to make it happen.

Right now I'm taking a supplement called Donaferty that contains Myo-inositol, D-Chiro-inositol, and folk acid. It's supposed to help regulate the insulin levels if I've understood it right.

Otherwise, just hoping the little one will stay in there. I'm 33 and this is my first pregnancy so really longing to be a mom!
  • @mamma2018 are you staying on the inositol? I was taking Ovastiol daily (it's go both D and Myo but no folk acid) until I found out and haven't been taking it since.

  • @sammierose464 I have been for now, but was actually going to ask my OBGYN about that when we see him for ultra sound next Monday (26th). Maybe it's better to switch to some other prenatal supplement with folic acid?
  • I've been doing just a prenatal. It looks like reviews on inositol during pregnancy are very back and forth and seems like ends up being a personal decision.
  • What does everyone do for hair removal when pregnant? I had tried laser removal twice before pregnancy and it worked on one area but not the others. So frustrating. I have hair on my face, chest, boobs, and throat. I am worried about my poor baby trying to breastfeed and the stubble makes them not want to latch.
  • With my PCOS I've found I'm always tired. Naps were already a regular part of my routine. It had been getting better with me working out again, but now I just have no energy.

I find myself exhausted by early afternoon. If I can't get a nap, I'm done for the day by 730. It's making working my 2nd job (bar trivia 2x a week) harder.
