What is your current gig? I teach high school part time (2 1/2 days a week) and I teach English to kids in China online.
Did you go to school for it? Yep! Only took me 6 years to get my bachelors
What was your first job? Chickfila! I never got tired of eating it.
What was your worst job? I worked at a call center for a cable company. I was actually really good at it, but it was so stressful. Pretty much everyone calling you has a problem, even if they aren’t rude. I only worked there for 2 months.
What is your dream job? I would love to work at a museum here in Dallas as an education and curriculum coordinator. We have some amazing museums here, and I’d love to provide more resources to teachers.
What is your current gig? I'm an executive assistant.
Did you go to school for it? No, I got my degree in English with a certification to teach 6-12 ELA and Spanish.
What was your first job? Subway! I loved that job. I was the best damn sandwich artist around.
What was your worst job? Ha, teaching. I HATED teaching. I taught middle and high school for 5 years. The last year, I taught all middle school and that was my final hurrah. It takes a special person to do that. I'm not that person.
What is your dream job? Honestly, I really like what I do now, but I'd love to do it on a part-time basis. That will never fly here because the person I support truly needs a full-time assistant, but a girl can dream.
I'm an HR Generalist for an Integrative Health University. Benefits, wellness, employee relations, etc...everything really (except payroll- I loathe payroll)
Did you go to school for it?
Yes, I have my Masters in HR Management
What was your first job?
When I was 15 my parents made me get a job at the golf course my mom worked at. I worked down in the restaurant. I had to be there on the weekend at 5:30 AM ... I attribute this to my early rising now.
What was your worst job?
I was a Recruiter for 6 months at a govt contracting company. I had to work 9 - 6 and was literally the last person in the office every day. I couldn't even work from home when it was all phone/email recruiting.
What is your dream job?
I am working on my Masters in Health Promotion, concentration in Workplace Wellness through my work and would love to maybe someday switch to Corporate Wellness 100% (it's only a tiny bit of my job now). Health & Fitness are my side passions so I would love to do that all day if possible somehow.
What is your current gig? I do public education for a non-profit.
Did you go to school for it? I got my degree in communications so I guess so.
What was your first job? A Blimpie in the mall food court. It was gross.
What was your worst job? Waitress at a yacht club. I was terrible!
What is your dream job? I wish I was doing something in theater - behind the scenes work or something.

What is your current gig? I work in emergency management.
Did you go to school for it? No, I have degrees in journalism and English and was a reporter for several years out of college.
What was your first job? Grocery store.
What was your worst job? Working at a restaurant. My manager told me I'd never go anywhere in life because I was going to school for journalism. I'd love to run into him again...ha ha.
What is your dream job? I would love to do freelance writing and editing from home. I'm also a photographer and would enjoy doing that full time. I miss being a journalist but I primarily covered breaking news and it was time consuming and depressing. When I had to leave my newborn and husband late one Sunday night to cover a press conference about a kid found deceased in a hot car, I knew it was time to move on.
@lalala2004 how do you like the China teaching gig? I've looked into that a little bit.
What is your current gig? SAHW. I haven't worked outside the home since I got married. My husband had two school age kids, and a good job that allowed him to work from home, but things were falling apart at home, and he was exhausted. I started picking up the slack, and fell into a pretty typical housewife role, which it turns out I love.
Did you go to school for it? I was a Poli-Sci major, but never finished my degree. I only use my education to yell at pundits on TV.
What was your first job? I was a dining assistant at a nursing home when I was 14. I loved it. Having a regular paycheck in 8th grade was amazing, and I loved getting to know all of the residents. I had volunteered in the activities department when I was 13, and later became a nursing assistant. I spent all of my teens working in nursing homes.
What was your worst job? Burger King. It mostly sucked because of bad management. I was also a night shift suicide hotline operator. That wasn't strictly terrible, but it was really hard, and I was not at all qualified for the position.
What is your dream job? I love what I do, but I wish I could get paid for it! I got a little bored after the kids moved out, so I'm starting over! That should take care of the boredom.
Me:32 DH:45 DSD: 20 DSS: 18 Team green baby due: Aug 6th, 2018
What is your current gig? SAHM and photographer when I have time
Did you go to school for it? I went to school for graphic design, and was a double major with photography before I switched to a different school.
What was your first job? I worked at my dad’s dental office setting up the rooms for patients and helping the receptionist. Hated it.
What was your worst job? I worked at Banana Republic for a total of 3 days before I quit. I was totally over working retail before I got hired there and thought a bigger retail environment would be better than the small one I had been in, but the people there absolutely sucked and weren’t helpful at all when I had questions.
What is your dream job? I want to have my own photography studio in my house one day, and I’d love to be a full time newborn and baby photographer.

Did you go to school for it? Yes, my bachelors is in HR and I also have my MBA
What was your first job? I worked in the dollar store at the mall
What was your worst job? In a prior HR job, I had this red haired psycho boss that was going through a bad case of menopausal hormonal shifts and she would literally say one thing one day and the complete opposite the next day and act like we were all stupid. We finally made her start emailing us everything so we could prove it to her.
What is your dream job? I've always said I would love Stacy London's job from What Not to Wear- but like a professional spin on it. I want to help people dress for the career that they want.
Realistically I think after 30 or so years of HR I will be done with it and want to have some sort of second career- maybe flipping homes or teaching at the college.
What is your current gig? Crew member at Trader Joe’s
Did you go to school for it? No lol I have my BS in film and my MS in business management
What was your first job? Shampoo girl at a hair salon
What was your worst job? Being a personal trainer at a gym, crazy hours and very little pay
What is your dream job? its bad that I’m 35 and still don’t know what I want to do haha but for now I would love to have a job where I can sit and have weekends off but still make a descent wage
What is your current gig? Corporate Wellness - I work with mainly call center employees. I run a fitness center and coordinate wellness programming and volunteer opportunities for the employees. It's an awesome job, but the schedule kind of sucks.
Did you go to school for it? Yep, BA in Exercise Physiology, working on MA in Health Services Administration
What was your first job? Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor
What was your worst job? Bev cart at the golf course in my hometown. Sexual harassment from your classmates' dads is not fun. One example (out of the many): my senior prom date's dad tried to put a $20 down the front of my shirt. Gross.
What is your dream job? I would love to do what I currently do part-time or from home. I work 6:30am-2:30pm two days per week and 11am-7pm two days per week, and Fridays rotate between the two shifts. For now, it helps that DH works from home and can do daycare dropoff and pickup, but I am not willing to miss out on after-school activities as my kids get older. My parents were both very involved with/supportive of my extra-curriculars (without crossing the line into 'coaching' me), and I can't imagine not doing the same.
@lalala2004 I have also considered the online ESL teaching gig. Do you have to have a degree/certifications?
Me: 28, DH: 40 Married 9/28/13 DS born 11/12/15 EDD 8/13/18
What is your current gig? High school science teacher. I teach AP Physics.
Did you go to school for it? Not really. I have degree in chemistry and was going to be a doctor. Now I'm getting a master's degree in educational psychology w/ a concentration in gifted/talented education.
What was your first job? Horseback riding instructor/ranch help. I didn't get 'paid' though - I just got free board and feed for my horse. My first official paycheck came from the library - I helped shelve books.
What was your worst job? Man so many. I worked at a fancy restaurant once and hated it. (I've worked at casual places and bartended and really liked it, but the fancy place was stupid).
What is your dream job? Can professional puppy-petter be a thing? Seriously though, I think I'd like to be a crossfit coach or run a dance studio or teach belly dance. Those things make me happy and I'd love to get paid for it.
What is your current gig? First grade gifted and talented teacher
Did you go to school for it? Yep, even though my BS is in theater education, my MA is in early childhood ed.
What was your first job? Camp counselor. I still work summer camp every year (and will be waddling around camp this summer)
What was your worst job? My first teaching position. I taught gifted kindergarten at a different school. The kids were great, my coworkers were great, but my principal hated me and made my life hell. I almost had a nervous breakdown my first year.
What is your dream job? If I were to stay in teaching, I think I would want to give pre-k a try. Otherwise I'd love to work in the education department of a museum. Or I'd love to quit education all together and go back to doing theater.
Me: 28 DH: 29 Married: 6/2016 TTC #1: 12/2016 Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
What is your current gig? I am a certified athletic trainer that works in collegiate athletics and an occupational therapy assistant in outpatient pediatric and geriatrics in a skilled nursing facility.
Did you go to school for it? Yes, initially went to college for athletic training, and went back to school for occupational therapy when I met DH and we started talking about family.
What was your first job? Babysitting/nannying. I ran quite the baby business when I was a teenager!
What was your worst job? I didn’t really have one, but I guess the Christmas break I spent working retail. Not my thing.
What is your dream job? Pediatric occupational therapist in a NICU doing early intervention.
What is your current gig? It's kind of hard to explain without giving away too many details because it's a very niche market. I run a depot for campervan rentals.
Did you go to school for it? Technically I suppose I did. I have my Bachelor's in Lodging and Resort Management and while this isn't exactly what I was learning in school it's still pretty close and definitely in the hospitality industry.
What was your first job? I was 14 and worked in a retirement home as a server in their restaurant.
What was your worst job? I worked in the contracts office of a timeshare resort. It was the WORST JOB EVER.
What is your dream job? Big executive of some niche start up. I suppose Silicon Valley is the place to be for that.
Did you go to school for it? Yes--Was in grad school for 7.5 years.
What was your first job? busser and call taker at this cheesy restaurant where you called in your order on these little phones in the booths.
What was your worst job? I was some sort of data entry monkey for GE Capital one summer. SOOOO boring. I used to bring books and read them under my desk when I didn't have work to do.
What is your dream job? Love my current job. But if not that, then a chef or a food network chef!
@Firemanswife11@lakesideknitter@ecwk I do VIPKid and I love it! You just need a bachelor’s degree and some experience with kids. They do pay more based on teaching certification and amount of experience. The interview process is kind of intense, but after that it’s pretty easy money. You can work as much or little as you want, but obviously it’s China hours, so early mornings, mostly. I wouldn’t do it as a full time job because of the hours, but it’s nice extra money. If anyone is interested just PM me because if you lose my link and end up doing it, I get a one time bonus. But that’s not why I recommend it, I really do like it
What is your current gig? Receptionist/Administrative assistant at a law firm.
Did you go to school for it? No. I have a degree in Graphic Design. I do some design work for my firm though.
What was your first job? Cashier at a grocery store.
What was your worst job? None of my jobs were horrible. I worked at a daycare on and off for 12 years with toddlers and infants and that was by far the most stressful.
What is your dream job?I would love to open a bookstore/cafe and do some design work out of it. Maybe it would have a room for parties or art classes.
What is your current gig? I teach high school agricultural science
Did you go to school for it? Yes, I have my BS in Poultry Science and my M.Ed in Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications
What was your first job? I worked at my small hometown library
What was your worst job? I worked at a feed store for 3 days after I graduated from college (that's all I could find at the time). It wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me.
Ok I just remembered my real ideal job: radio talk show host/co host. I listen to this Boston show every morning on the way to work (Matty in the Morning, in case anyone is interested!) and they just talk and laugh and get paid. I want to get paid to talk!!
Currently, I do nothing. Lol. But, by trade, I am a construction manager.
Ive been in DFW the last few years killing myself to build houses as fast as they need them. I moved home with the divorce (back to MO), and construction is slower here but I was on the verge of accepting an offer when I got BFP and turned it down. I didn’t want to work for 9 months and quit. I insist on being home at least that first year.
I’m bored out of my mind haha but it’s been a huge change from working 7 days a week.
Did you go to school for it?
Sort of. I have undergrad degree in Businees Management and masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Project Management - an important component to construction.
What was your first job?
steakhouse waitress
What was your worst job?
I worked as a purchasing coordinator at one of my early jobs, as just a way to get my foot in the door. Hated it. Office work. Lots of accounting and budgets. Numbers. Blah. After six months they promoted me to the field. I was offered a pay raise to stay at corporate because I did the job well and they struggled to keep people but I was dying. Never looked back.
What is your current gig? SAHW. Hubby makes enough for us to live comfortably without too many frills, which we're not the frilly type anyway. I was working part-time local jobs just for something to do and some supplemental income (before the economy tanked), but then when my dad got sick I quit to help my parents out full time. Now that he's passed, I still help mom a lot with her yardwork and errands. And now that my grandmother is cuckoo for cocoa puffs I've been doing a lot of caregiver type of work for her as well.
In between taking care of my family, I take care of the house and yard here. During the summer I have a big vegetable garden where I can my own tomatoes, salsa, green beans. I also make fruit jams from the strawberries and raspberries I pick. During the fall and winter months I deer hunt and process it by myself. We also raise chickens and rabbits for eggs and meat, so I handle all of that as well.
It's all a full time job for which I don't really get monetary pay.
Did you go to school for it? Nope, I actually have a degree in Law Enforcement, but after an injury I no longer qualify to work in that field. I really enjoyed the schooling and I have a degree, so I guess that's something.
What was your first job? Working concession stands at the local league baseball/softball fields during the summer when I was 12 or 13. It was okay, plus I got to drink unlimited fountain Mtn Dew. :P
What was your worst job? Unloading Liz Claiborne clothes from semi trailers at a local distribution facility. It often reached 130*F in those trailers during the heat of the day, and I ended up losing so much weight I looked skeletal. All that for $7/hr and no benefits. Eff that. Hated it.
What is your dream job? Maybe a vet tech job? Given the amount of animals I've had over the years my vet sends me home with my own sutures and things to do emergency work at home when I need to. So I have the experience, just not the education or license. Nothing like stitching up your own dog's leg over a holiday weekend out of state where there were no emergency vet clinics. Heh
What is your current gig? Project/Abstract Manager at an Oil & Gas Land Brokerage Firm a/k/a fancy title for Landman that manages other Landmen
Did you go to school for it? Nope. Edited to add: I have a degree in History. My fascination with the past/geneology and ability to read old cursive documents come in handy.
What was your first job? Outside of doing side work for my mother, I worked in the grill at a swim/tennis club.
What was your worst job? Radio Advertising Sales
What is your dream job? Interior Design
His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!
neeraja_k You're like super woman! I'm in awe, especially of the hunting and processing. Hunting is not my thing, but I do love cooking with venison. DH and his boys were able to go a lot more this year, its so nice to have a stocked freezer! I also love the idea of growing vegetables, but I am cursed with a black thumb.
His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!
My official title is President's Club Mortgage Banker. I help folks who are relocating with their jobs get a new mortgage for a home purchase in the new location.
Did you go to school for it?
A degree isn't required for what I do, but I have a bachelors in marketing
What was your first job?
Phone girl at a pizza place
What was your worst job?
RETAIL. The worst. Never again.
What is your dream job?
I would love it if I had the skills to rehab old houses like Nicole Curtis. She is amazing. Or, if I could get paid to travel around with DH and the kids, that would be awesome.
I love hearing what everyone does! I feel like we have lots of teachers
What is your current gig? Resident physician in a pretty niche specialty. As far as residency goes, it's pretty fantastic. Only average 50-60 hrs a week normally (where as a lot of residents in other specialties push or cross the 80 hr "limit" we have regularly). If we ever go private with this group, I can tell you more about what I do.
Did you go to school for it? Hah yes. 4 yrs BA, 4 yrs MD, and in year 2 of residency. At least they pay me now... But I have 2-4 years before I can practice in my specialty by myself (and make any real money).
What was your first job? food services for the local semi-pro baseball team. It wasn't a bad job, but it was hot and I got paid pennies.
what was your worst job? I spent 2 summers working for my local zoo in "visitor services." Which meant that I mostly hosed goose poop off the road, cleaned the bumper boat pool, spent my days manning the hot paddle boat shack, or driving a tram and giving tours. The tram was my favorite part but the rest of it sucked, and I was paid very little. what is your dream job? I would say my current one post training if I could work my own hours (like 8-5 every day with no call...), but I may be lying to myself to make me feel better about my life decisions. If I had known that my husband and I would meet and he would do what he does... I may have never gotten into this mess and debt in the first place. I would probably be a terrible SAHM, but I can't help but dream about it.
@neeraja_k that’s so cool, that’s such the classic way to live. If I didn’t work I just wouldn’t do anything productive. I don’t have the kind of self-discipline. While I’m a part timen SAHM I have the excuse of a kid, but I wouldn’t get any more housework done if I didn’t have a kid. I would just read more books and do more shopping.
OMG I did the beverage cart at the golf course sometimes too. Tips were good, but man, were those men pervy!!
I work in operations for an IT/DataCenter maintenance company. I support various sales reps with contracts, renewals, spreadsheets, purchase orders, invoicing, basically anything other than selling! I also work along the finance department at month end with accruals, projections, balancing, etc.
Did you go to school for it?
Not really. I have a Bachelors in Sociology - I changed my major 3x, but always had a minor in Sociology, and didn’t know what I wanted to do. that’s the degree my credits made sense for once I hit my final year.
What was your first job?
i worked for a local ice cream shop. We made our own ice cream and I ate way too much of it.
What was your worst job?
At a bagel shop in college. I had to open a lot of shifts, which meant being to work at like 4:45am. It sucked at that age.
What is your dream job?
Physical therapist or athletic trainer. or I would love to be in corporate wellness. I wish I would’ve gone the PT/AT route when I first went to college, but I chickened out on all the science classes and the longer program.
What is your current gig? Associate attorney in a litigation group of an international law firm - basically I defend large companies that get sued for any variety of reasons. Lately I have been defending against a lot of class actions, and I really love that area of law.
Did you go to school for it? Yes, can't avoid the "fun" of law school.
What was your first job? I worked at Old Navy the summer before college and learned a lot about how horrible retail customers can be.
What was your worst job? Really I have been pretty lucky job-wise. My first lawyer job was doing insurance defense work (defending drivers who allegedly caused accidents and construction companies who allegedly caused defects pursuant to the terms of their insurance policies) and it was super boring to me and the pay wasn't great, but the firm and people weren't terrible.
What is your dream job? Honestly probably very close to what I am doing, if I didn't have to bill my time and if I could work 25% less (I am planning on going down to 80% after maternity leave so we'll see if that does the trick!). I would also love to write. I wish I had more time to do so as a hobby.

I manage the content and work on improving usability for the websites at a university. Did you go to school for it?
Pretty much, I dual majored in psychology and communications with a marketing minor. I do wish I took more coding classes.
What was your first job?
I feed animals and cleaned up the kennels at a vets office.
What was your worst job?
Hm I was an admin assistant job where I basically did my boss's job. I liked the work but hated dealing with how incompetent she was.
What is your dream job?
Practical dream job: Basically doing what I do now but as a consultant. If we can financially swing it the plan is for me to try when the last kid starts school.
Impractical dream job: I second @rocknrrollmom and be a travel blogger
What is your current gig? Day-to-day sub at my local district. I can sub for any grade, which is nice. So far I definitely prefer 6-12th.
Did you go to school for it? Yep - I have a bachelor’s in grades 4-8, specializing in math, and a masters in special ed, K-8.
What was your first job? Working at an independent coffee shop. There were almost no customers. The few that came regularly got frustrated with me for not knowing anything about specific types of coffees, or for not being able to recommend things. Plus I hate coffee.
What was your worst job? A summer job at a dog vacation kennel. One of the bigger dogs knocked into me, spraining my ankle, and I was alone. When I called the owner to see if she could cover for me so I could go to urgent care, she basically said tough shit. I told her to consider me as quitting at the end of my shift, and I didn’t go back.
What is your dream job? Middle school or high school special ed, working with students with learning disabilities. They’re amazing kids, and I’d love to show them that they have lots of good opportunities to find real careers.
Oh I wanted to add that I used to work in hospitality, I worked for Hilton and Four Seasons but the schedule was just too much for what I wanted after DS...but man, those hotel perks. I fondly remember the suites at Four Seasons we would get when we travelled...for FREE. Now I have to pay for hotel rooms LOL
Haha I used to work for Holiday Inn (I was an assistant general manager there for 6 years) and I did love the perks. The schedule is the main reason I left that job. I worked every holiday and every weekend and while that's fine when you're in college, not so much when you have kids. That's why I love my job so much now, it's essentially the same job I was doing before, more money, and a M-F 8-4 gig with holiday's off. So much better haha
Yes! @calimom2524 I would especially hate "Manager on Duty" weekends. I literally would not sleep for those 48 hours because we had to stay in the hotel and I was so nervous the phone would ring and I would have to get up. They sucked the life out of me. They didn't have that at Four Seasons but then they basically wanted you to move every 2 years for a promotion, which we can't do so it was all the younger, single people moving around to exotic locations.
Re: GTKY: Jobs
Did you go to school for it? Yep! Only took me 6 years to get my bachelors
What was your first job? Chickfila! I never got tired of eating it.
What was your worst job? I worked at a call center for a cable company. I was actually really good at it, but it was so stressful. Pretty much everyone calling you has a problem, even if they aren’t rude. I only worked there for 2 months.
What is your dream job? I would love to work at a museum here in Dallas as an education and curriculum coordinator. We have some amazing museums here, and I’d love to provide more resources to teachers.

About me:

Married 9/28/13
DS born 11/12/15
EDD 8/13/18
Married: 6/2016
TTC #1: 12/2016
Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
Did you go to school for it? I have a Master's but not in the field I work in.
What was your first job? First real job was at Tim Hortons, before that pet and baby-sitting.
What was your worst job? There were a couple I quit after a day.
What is your dream job? Something with animals or kids (but not daycare or anything like that, definitely not patient enough).

DS: Born 5-17-16
Did you go to school for it? No. I have a degree in Graphic Design. I do some design work for my firm though.
What was your first job? Cashier at a grocery store.
What was your worst job? None of my jobs were horrible. I worked at a daycare on and off for 12 years with toddlers and infants and that was by far the most stressful.
What is your dream job?I would love to open a bookstore/cafe and do some design work out of it. Maybe it would have a room for parties or art classes.
What is your dream job? SAHM
What is your dream job?
Exactly what I do. I love it.
Heh
Hello from Detroit!
DS: 5.28.15
DS#2: EDD 8.31.18
