@livinthesunnylife - really good point. BTW when I'm on desktop my browser likes to jump right to your siggy pic Apparently firefox has a thing for heart-shaped back waxes lol!
Isn't there a spreadsheet of the order these spotlights go in? Paging @SmashJam (we miss you here in August - hope July is treating you well! Could you help us out here? But tbh @mrsbubbles-2 I don't mind what way we do it, but I say we can open up the voting to S+TMs too because there could be things we would like advice on too that we didn't use/know about last time around!
ETA - not that it really matters to me what order we do these things in. We will get through them all eventually and can always research on our own anyway!
@ecwk I’m late responding but at 2, I talked to the doctor and she gave me a number for EI, but I never called because my mama instinct told me he’s okay. He’ll be 3 in June and now he doesn’t shut up. He still does talk gibberish sometimes, but I’m blown away by some of the things he says now.
Thanks for all the response about movement. Rational me knows it’s too early to feel much. I didn’t feel DS until 20 weeks and he moved constantly. Crazy, anxious me just wants this guy to be okay in there!
@calimom2524 that’s extremely frustrating. I fully plan on starting DS late since he has a summer birthday so he’ll be 6 for kindergarten. That’s crazy that they’re telling you he has to go to first. You did the right thing. You know what your son was/is ready for.
Re: Product Spotlights. I agree that the FTMs might feel a little overwhelmed. Heck, I'M overwhelmed reading those threads and thinking about baby gear. At some point I think advice threads like "Tell me the absolute essentials that you couldn't live without" or "What baby stuff did you get and never use" may be helpful. I know when I was starting my baby shopping for #1 (which wasn't until third trimester) I really just wanted a dumbed-down no-frills list because I'm a minimalist. I also think the idea of archiving them somewhere or making a spreadsheet is a good idea (for easy future reference).

How far along are you? How big is baby? I'm 14w and according to the bump my LO is the size of a baby chick. Ages of other child(ren)? 1yr How are you feeling? I was feeling great until like 2 hours ago, to the point where it weirded me out since I was sick so long during my first pregnancy. Now I have a horrible headache and feel nauseous Rants/Raves? DH is in San Francisco right now for a job interview and DS has actually been behaving really good for me. Sidenote: while I'm sure it's lovely I really don't want to move to California right now. I'd have to find a new doctor, hospital and we'd have no family around for help. Hopefully they come through on their offer to let DH work remotely. Questions? when did your kid start going down to one nap? DS will be 13m next week and is consistently refusing to go down for his second nap. GTKY: Do you have any family traditions that your other child(ren) is/are involved in that you’re excited to share with August baby? We did breakfast with Santa at the zoo, which was awesome. I'm also trying to think of good Halloween costumes that involve baby carrying. Sorry in advance for not tagging people. My SIL had GD and she actually lost weight during her pregnancy so they're probably just scheduling the glucose test to be safe.
How far along are you? How big is baby? 14 weeks and I honestly have no idea. Biggest difference between this time and last time is just having no time to immerse myself in this pregnancy, which I guess is why I don't know the cute fruits every week...
Ages of other child(ren)? almost 21 mo
How are you feeling? Fine except for excruciating headaches.
Rants/Raves? I read A TON for my job and the headaches are making it reallllllly hard.
Questions? Can't think of any.
GTKY: Do you have any family traditions that your other child(ren) is/are involved in that you’re excited to share with August baby? Couldn't think of any but after scrolling through others' answers, I'll steal from @redheadbride15 and echo the outdoor idea. I grew up in CO and love to hike (see my avatar--a mountain scene!) and DS has been great in the hiking carrier. But DH ALWAYS carries him, so I'm not sure how it's going to work with two. Guess I"m going to have to pick up the load! We also walk a lot around the neighborhood on our greenways (we have a dog that gets a ton of walks.) I like the idea of family walks after dinner and look forward to that soon!
@laufisch - DS started 1 nap a day about that age - day care goes down to one nap and we would follow suit on the weekends. Some days he would need a quick 20-30 min nap but we would only put him in his crib if he was rubbing his eyes or giving other sleepy signs. His 1 nap is about 2 hours and he sleeps about 12 hours at night.
@redheadbride15 I LOVE the idea of an essentials thread later on as we get closer to registries and all that. I used one I found on Pinterest and wasted sooooo much money on things I never used.
@amac12999@lakesideknitter I’m with you both on the movement. I’ve felt what I think is LO moving around, but I’m not completely sure. I’m getting nervous because I haven’t heard the heartbeat since my dating u/s on 1/3.
I had an anterior placenta with DS, and being a FTM I didn’t really feel him until he was full-on kicking me. So with this one I’m never sure if it’s the baby I’m feeling, or if it’s just gas.
I also had an anterior placenta with DS and am SO Excited to feel more kicks--and earlier. I am 14 weeks and I think it really is too early to feel regular movement.
Thank you, ladies. I just find it incredible that if a child doesn't fit right into the mold then they will pay for it for their entire education. I emailed the one school I am interested in, it's a public school but it's a charter school so you still have to apply and be accepted and blah blah blah politics, and asked if it was possible to have him enter into kindergarten at 6. The lady who runs admissions is married to the director of the school who was the one who presented at the info session last week and I specifically asked him if my son could enter kindergarten at 6 and he said yes and they made this same decision for their son. I think I maybe hadn't communicated clearly in my first email because her response was that kindergarten is full this year but he could apply for first grade next year. Dafuq? So I re-emailed today and I haven't received a response but I did get a notification that his grade entry level has been changed in their system so I THINK maybe they heard me this time.
How far along are you? How big is baby? 14.5 - a troll doll lol
Ages of other child(ren)? almost 7, 5, 2.5
How are you feeling? much better this week. Stopping the prometrium helped a ton with my nausea!
Rants/Raves? the olympics are never on (only antenna) when I actually want to watch them ugh
Questions? nope
GTKY: Do you have any family traditions that your other child(ren) is/are involved in that you’re excited to share with August baby? Christmas stuff! Mostly just excited to sss how a girl fits in with my boys!
@ecwk you can’t compare!!! The range for normal is MASSIVE. My nieces were basically talking in full sentences out of the womb and my boys were all on the later side. Only 1 needed speech (my middle for articulation).
I forget the cutoff at 2 but 30 words sounds good. I remember my oldest has a huge boom right after he turned 2.5. My middle didn’t... so at 3 we started to talk about speech. Snd my oldest now is very articulate, reads above grade level etc. being a later talker really isn’t a big deal as long as they do eventually catch up. My kids just focused on gross motor first. My youngest was my earliest talker and latest walker.
Re: showing. I showed less quickly with my 3rd when I was skinny... so your starting size can impact too either direction.
And I swear I’m carrying different so far than I did for 1-3. Owt but... I swear. I was classic boy with them, like strangers would look at me and assume it was a boy. Big basketball out front. This time it’s much more oblong. And I’m carrying in my love handles lol.
also, I popped super early, like 8 weeks it was ridiculous. But I basically haven’t changed much since then, I’m waiting for a nice big pop. I’m over this ‘is she or isn’t she’ stage
@alinafed 2 yr olds can be clingy!!! I’ll bet it’s largely the age. Recently all of a sucden Rory (2.5) is like all self sufficient and way less clingy - it’s a leap I think honestly!
Nursery: we did a dedicated nursery in our old house that all 3 boys cycled through. We moved the big brother to make room for the new baby - it was fine! I liked having a special nursery for our babies and made it a big deal to get a big boy room / share with big brother.
This time baby baby will be in our room for the foreseeable future I think. Then we’ll move kids... we have 4brso 2 will share. I know which room (my oldest has the biggest so that one). TBD which brother willsgare. Then we’ll paint that room to make it coordinate bedding etc, and figure out paint etc for baby girl. It’s possibls we could do it this summer... we’ll see.
@laufisch sorry for the delayed response, but DS is almost 15m and still taking the two naps. Transitioning to 1 has not worked for us and he turns into a disaster by lunch time. So he still takes a morning nap, but I have trimmed it and I make sure he's awake for 3+ hours before his afternoon nap time. It seems to be working and he's happier when he's less tired.
My son is almost 14 months old. He will be about 19 1/2 months when baby #2 arrives
How are you feeling?
Feeling pretty good. Starting to get self conscious. This is my second pregnancy so my stomach is growing faster, and I wasn't thin before so I feel like I just look like I've gained a lot of weight...I haven't told people (other than family) because we couldn't get in to see our doctor for another 2 weeks!
Rants/Raves?
See above answer....anyone else feeling self conscious? I know my belly is growing for a good reason, but I've always had self image issues...
GTKY: Do you have any family traditions that your other child(ren) is/are involved in that you’re excited to share with August baby?
We usually visit my Iowa family in August, we always have some kind of family reunion, I won't be able to go this year since baby is due just a week from the reunion, but can't wait to bring baby their every year to visit my huge wonderful family!
@lindsaym2106 I was feeling self conscious before, but now I'm full on pregnant and it feels much better. Maybe it's time to let go and embrace the bump?
@princesslockness DS decided he wanted to be Poppy from Trolls. He was very insistent that he would be Poppy and NOT Branch. I made his costume and he looked cute AF!

But seriously. I don't know how you can ever buy matching clothes for them in advance cause chances are one of them won't be the size you think they will be at that time. right?
@lalala2004 Right? I feel like Batman and Robin is happening for Halloween this year.
Actually DH was Batman and DS was Robin last Halloween! DS’s costume was so big he’ll probably do that again. We have a hand-me-down bumble bee costume that should be DS2’s size, so I thought I’d be a bumble bee with him. Especially since I’ll likely be wearing him!
@ecwk hahahaha this was the day the costumes came in. You should see his face the day he actually had to wear it. He cried the whole time and it was so big it was swallowing him for the whole parade. Poor bugger
Ok I have to share now lol. I knit the hat and made the shirt/dress. We were at my parents’ house in CO for Halloween so it was chilly and this was perfect to bundle up under!
