Trouble TTC

New Girl Intro

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking since late-December and finally feel ready to join you all. Here's our story: DH and I have been married since Feb 2012 and started TTC #1 almost exactly one year ago (although we just finished our 15th cycle due to my short cycles). From the very beginning I felt like something was wrong. After coming off of BCP in November 2016, my cycles were on the short side (24-25 days) whereas prior to BCP they were usually 28 days or longer (I took them for about 8 years). I went to my OB after one month of TTC (I know!) and she said not to worry and that I was probably just ovulating early. So we tried for 6 months with no luck and because I'm over 35, went back to the OB. She ordered all the standard tests (HSG, SA, 3 day blood work) + asked me to start charting BBT. I had not been doing this because I don't sleep well and I didn't think it would work for me. She said to do it anyway and so I bought a BBT thermometer and hoped for the best. The tests all came back completely normal, however the charting did reveal a short LP. The first month it was only 5 days and the second it was 7-8 days. She diagnosed me with "weak ovulation" and prescribed Clomid. I started at 100mg and did my first round in October. The Clomid moved up my ovulation date but only extended my LP by a day or two. She raised the dose to 150mg, but after 3 more failed cycles, she switched us to injectables + TI. We just finished our first round of Purgeon (same as Follistim) + Ovidrel + TI, with AF arriving this morning (boo). I think we will do 3 more rounds and if not successful, will move on to an RE.

Finally, I'm American, but DH is French and we live in France. It's been quite the experience having to navigate all of this in a foreign language (although thankfully my OB speaks English). We also moved to a new city just before starting TTC and don't have many close friends near us, so I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all better and share our experiences together. From what I've seen so far, it looks like a great group. Thanks for having me!

  • Hi!!!!  Your story is so interesting!!  I also went to an RE early...sort of the opposite, once I quit BC my cycles got longer and longer...and longer.  Haha.  It’s been a crazy ride (I’m two years in now) but this group is a HUGE source of comfort and also just awesome information from women who know exactly what you’re going through!!!!!!  I’m glad you decided to jump in

  • @BWhitta thanks! Haha it's crazy how many different scenarios there can be when TTC. Having to deal with 15 cycles in one calendar year is rough, but I can imagine having longer cycles is a whole different type of worry and annoyance. I hope you can get some answers soon!
