AFM, @DDRRT1982 I am pretty much salty AF after a pretty disastrous 45 minutes earlier that means I have to start pitocin from the beginning again. Basically I still don’t have a baby and people have started promising me one before shift change tomorrow morning.
It is 3 am Minnesota time. Having major contractions that keep me awake. Already ate a snack and took a bath. Now bouncing on my ball watching HBO, hoping I can maybe get some sleep here soon. If not, good thing I napped today?? Lol
Ahhh. My 5 yr old is sick again. He was sick 2 weekends ago and I had hoped that would be the end of it. Nope. Fever and bad cough. Another weekend stuck indoors, which I'm ok with, I just hate seeing him miserable!
@DDRRT1982 Yeah, that's where I'm at too--I want them in these last few weeks so they have less exposure to flu season. It's not super cold where I live, but there have been some flu-related deaths in our county, + plus they're going to be tiny which I assume means more vulnerable than average. I hope your kids feel better soon and that we both make it as long as possible, hopefully to March!!
I haven’t posted a ton on here since it’s so hard to find topics. Not sure if this goes here, but I’ve been completely stressing out after my 36wk appt yesterday. Learned we’re in the 20th percentile, I’m GBS positive and I already knew I was severely anemic.
I’m freaking out about the day-of delivery. I’m not a needle/med person (going med-free because of this) already and they’re telling me I’ll need an IV of antibiotics as soon as I get to the hospital and possibly a blood transfusion if I lose too much blood during delivery due to anemia.
Still having contractions 6-7 mins apart. Been doing short little walks and bouncing on my ball to keep things moving! And eating. A lot. Lol sorry for TMI but I’ve pooped 3 times today already! Thank goodness!
@crossfitbabybump your body cleans itself out when it’s getting ready to have a baby! Good luck, it sounds like you’re going to be posting in birth announcements soon! I hope things continue for you!
Thank you ladies! She dropped even more since last week, I feel like I’m so off balance! Praying for you ladies as well! I can’t wait to see everyone’s babes!!
@Chillpr I'm sorry, that sounds stressful, but I'm sure you'll be in good hands. I hate needles too but once you are in labor, I'm sure that will be the last thing on your mind. Good luck!

Thanks Sarah. Google is not my friend, and I feel like I have not one but 3 things to be concerned about.
@Chillpr I’m sorry you’re stressed! The IV for the GBS I hear is pretty non negotiable. As far as I’ve heard you need a blood transfusion if you lose a lot of blood whether you’re anemic or not. I never heard before that it made the likelihood of transfusion or significant blood loss higher... I’m anemic and at a high risk for hemorrhage and no one told me that (doesn’t mean it isn’t true, just not sure). As for the %ile, do you have any other growth scans coming up? I have IUGR now but before when I was at 15th %ile I was told anything above 10 is good and doesn’t increase risks of needing meds or other adverse outcomes. I was strongly discouraged from going med free because I’m having twins and my risk of needing to switch to a c section is high, but not because of low growth (in fact supposedly it’s easier to handle the smaller babies without drugs). I hope some of that eases your mind a bit! I’m a FTM also and pretty much terrified of all birth possibilities at this point so I feel you there!!
@vflux33 This eases my mind so much! It’s my second baby and the first time I was anemic as well and none of these concerns came up. I’m on a weekly schedule now so I think the next scan will be next Friday. I know I’m going to be on edge until next week.
I can’t remember what thread we were talking about the tdap on a few weeks ago. I was going by the CDC rec on the every 10 years for the shot, but I saw others say the recommendation for those around infants is 5 years. I told my husband about it, and I asked him to check and see when he last had his tdap, and it was in 2012. As time is slipping away, I asked if he could go ahead and run by Walgreens today and get the shot, and he was happy to oblige.
He got to the wal greens closest to our house, and the pharmacist actually refused to give him the shot! He not only said he didn’t need it again if he got it in 2012, but that he was protected for life. Even he knew that’s not what the CDC recommends. He said he talked back and forth for several minutes, and the pharmacist kept talking about “new research,” and he finally just left when the pharmacist wouldn’t budge. So he went to another wal greens and told them the same spill about having the shot in 2012, and the pharmacist there was more than happy to give him the shot. They said that even if he got a tdap last year, if he stepped on a rusty nail, they’d probably still regive him the shot. Total WTF on the first pharmacist. I’m thankful he didn’t just throw in the towel and went to another one!
@Chillpr I was gbs positive last time and the iv was non negotiable. I'm anemic too, and my doctor has me taking iron pills twice a day and will decide after my 36 week appointment if he wants me to get an iron infusion. Is that something you can do beforehand to get your levels up and avoid any risks? As far as I understand, your iron levels always drop after birth, so if it's very low to begin with, it can cause problems.
@Chillpr the needle phobia is real and not a game when you get to the hospital see if your LnD has access to a numbing spray or gel. Also your IV can be wrapped up with something so you don't have to look at it. The only time you should be hooked up is when you are receiving your antibiotics. (FX you won't need a transfusion). Otherwise the IV can just be a little wrap on your arm/hand and you'll be good to go! Good luck to you!

I will definitely ask about an iron infusion. I’m on iron pills now (Ferralet) and have increased to twice a day.
In addition to the needle itself, I’m worried I won’t get to the hospital in time for the GBS IV. My first delivery was extremely quick (arrived and pushed within the hour). They mentioned they liked to give the IV 4hrs before birth, was that your experience?
So glad to hear I’m not the only one who’s going through/been through all this!
I can’t speak to the GBS, I was negative with my first and get tested on Tuesday for my second. I can speak to the low growth percentile. My first measured super low for growth, her highest was in the 13th percentile. They were so worried about how small she would be, I had to see a specialist who tracked her growth differently. She came out at 6 lbs! They were shocked! Know that the measurements and all that are not accurate... good luck!
@Chillpr yes they gave it to me right when I arrived to the hospital even though I was going to be induced only hours later. (Was already having contractions, but baby kept failing the NST so OB wanted him out that night) Induction took a verrrrrry long time. So they'd give me the iv every 4 hours and just let me unhook it when It was done. The bag ran for about an hour, so as far as I understand, I'm pretty sure it's ok even if your labor is quick. I don't mind needles too much, but when they actually need to get an iv line in or do a blood test, I get squeamish. i learnt to stick up for myself and make sure the nurse knows what they're doing. If you get any inkling that they don't, DONT HESITATE TO SEND THEM OUT! I know it might be slightly insulting, but I've fainted one time too many getting pricked multiple times because they couldn't find the vein... try not to think into it when they put the needle in. Play a mindless game on yur phone, or have a conversation with someone other then the nurse. i usually message with my husband when I need a blood test to take my mind off things. Main thing is a healthy baby at the end. Hope all goes well for you!
@Chillpr They need to get one dose of antibiotics in but the goal is to get at least two in before delivery. But, you are neither the first nor the last person to have delivered quickly previously and be GBS positive. Your doctor will be able to offer a plan. That combined with the anemia, it may work best to have you come in for an induction so they can make sure to have you at the hospital to get the antibiotics and to make sure you deliver at the hospital. It's maybe not ideal but it's totally workable. As for the 20th percentile, they're doing their due diligence and following up but that's not small enough to where they really worry. Someone has to be small. Not everyone can be 50th percentile, you know? All of this is manageable.

Question - how does the Tdap work with insurance for insurance at Walgreens? Do they take it?
