mine: I find it amusing and odd that people who never have made an attempt to join this community (except to intro);want all of us to know the sex of their child. Isn't that like me randomly going into target and yelling at the top of my lungs "I'm having a baby!!!!!"
@lindsayleigh1989 I totally agree! Some of us aren’t able to get on everyday, but at least contribute a few times a week!
I’m not sure how unpopular this will be, but it’s been on my mind lately. I hate when people say that boys shouldn’t play with dolls. My son loves his baby doll, pretends to feed it and change its diaper, put it down for naps etc. I love seeing that he is so caring. He’s going to be so amazing when the babies get here, why would I not want him to play with dolls?!
@powellgirl yeah that is fine it is literallg the knotties and some people ive never see who have literally only intro'd and then the sex post that's it haha
@lindsayleigh1989@powellgirl I don't think either of yours are unpopular opinions...I think most people agree! The weirdos who think its not ok for boys to play with dolls have the unpopular opinion. Although I must admit...when my son wants to dress up like a princess I do worry that people are gonna think its weird and say he shouldn't want to dress up like a princess because he's a boy!
I don't like getting free samples of baby products (or really any products). To me, it's just more clutter. Like those free baby boxes you get with registries, they actually give me anxiety. I have a drawer full of that stuff from my son and every time we go to the pediatrician he makes us take moreeeee tiny baby shampoos and lotions. I get it, you can throw one in the diaper bag, but every time I go to try to organize the stuff, I just get overwhelmed and shove it all in the drawer. I realize this is probably not normal that free samples bother me so much.
Food free samples on the other hand, I'll take em all.
@zande2016 I don’t care quite as much about free samples, but I feel that way when people give me boxes of baby stuff. When my DS was a baby, we came home one day to find three boxes of stuff on our back porch from my husbands aunt. Most of it was stuff I didn’t want like a bottle warmer. I breastfed my son, why would I want a bottle warmer?
I totally get what both of you are saying. I don’t mind the samples of stuff I’ll use (like diapers- give me all the free diapers!) but we’ve gotten soooo much baby shampoo of the years it’s like that’ll be the only soap my kids use for their whole lives. It’s too much.
And I also get the used baby stuff irritation. I’ve grown to have an appreciation for second hand kids clothes because clothes are expensive and kids are gross, BUT I don’t want your 30 year old kid’s baby clothes from 1987. Who would want those? Or nasty broken baby toys or kid’s meal toys.
@lindsayleigh1989 and @powellgirl I agree with you both. I get it if you're new and just coming on board, and I get it if you can only get on once in a while. A lot of people will state "I will try to be active but can only get on during xxx days/time of day/week" etc... It's the drive-bys. And we are in the 14-18 week range at this point, y'all kinda know you're preggers. Also, my son LOVES playing house and will often go between playing with the "girls" and the "boys" when all of our kids get together. We are fine with it. And my daughter will throw on a hockey helmet and hit some pucks, or wrestle, or build forts, or whatever else the boys are doing.
@zande2016 I love me some free stuff!! Food and otherwise
@powellgirl my DH had a doll when he was younger and he is the most loving and nurturing person. I can't wait to see him with our LO, he is going to be a great father. So just think, you are raising a great nurturer!
@zande2016 as for the free samples, if they overwhelm you I have a great idea. Do you have a local food pantry? you can donate any of the unopened samples and a family that really needs it can use them! Most food pantries take all kinds of toiletries (this is usually what I donate because most of the families are on food stamps and food stamps don't cover toiletries, so not having to buy deodorant/shampoo/soap that month might really help). Just an idea, you get rid of it and someone else can use it!
@zande2016 I completely agree- every time I move I throw out bags and bags of free samples from various promotions I've gotten over the year. I just never use them. Has definitely been the reason I have avoided getting any welcome boxes or whatever from various registries- I know I will never touch it and it will just be junk!
I hate how some people can be so mean about non-natives. I hear a lot of it here in CO and it's sad. It's often negative and judgy. I never put down others for wanting to move to Cali. What's wrong with wanting something better for their families and wanting to share/experience the wonder stuff from your native state? Your not limited to staying where your born.
LOL for all the hate for the butter coffee on the randoms thread today. I guess that's my UO today!
We're guilty of it here at our house, and started doing it 5 or so years ago when I was working out at a kettlebell gym. Don't knock it till you try it! DH does butter and coconut oil in his coffee every morning. I don't do the coconut oil because I don't care for the texture. But we don't do it for weight loss or any of those other claims, it's just part of us hitting our macros and we've both grown to really like it. And no, we don't put crap loads of butter in it, that would actually be gross. Never ever more than a tbs, and usually I put in less.
Here I go...I don't like all the flowery head bands for baby girls. I just don't get them I guess, and they look so uncomfortable! I blame it on the fact that, once again, they are not common at all in Italy so the look is just strange to me
@kissableviv I’m with you! Most of the headbands they make for girls that have giant bows or flowers are so hideous to me...I’m trying to find more subtle, tasteful options for my girls but not a ton of luck so far
@busymommy23 No idea why she's putting that much butter in it. That does sound gross to me. Maybe she's one of those "if a little is good, then a lot is great" sort of people. Either that or she doesn't have taste buds!
I just thought that everyone else thought the combo was gross was really funny . But I promise, a little bit in the coffee isn't nasty. Does take a little getting used to, but so does switching to black coffee if you typically put creamer in it. I started doing it when I was training in the morning because I can't eat a breakfast before I workout and some protein shakes don't sit well with me. The butter gave me something to metabolize so I wasn't on a completely empty stomach.
I will absolutely agree, too much butter can be overwhelming. When my husband makes pies, I swear his crust must be 50% butter and the smell when they go in the oven can be a bit much.
:Maybe my UO is that I love the big bows and headbands on little girls! But I also have no girls so maybe it's just my desire to dress a child in something other than plaid, thermals and polos
I finally thought of one....I hate getting flowers. I think they are a complete waste of money. A couple years ago DH ordered flowers to be sent to me at work for our anniversary. I got the email notice that our credit card had been used online at a flower company, and I made him call and cancel them. LOL. I appreciate the thought but there’s about a million things I’d rather spend that 75 bucks on.
@AlyLynn07 I love big bows too! The bows were my favorite part of having a little girl. I didn’t go too crazy with them. And really the bow elastic isn’t any tighter than a hat would be.
@tarheelgirl8 i don’t ask for gifts like flowers or chocolate but i don’t mind the gesture. I’d rather DH gift me some sleeping in, a day to myself, dinner for 2. I’ve actually bought him flowers before lol but the cheap grocery store kind.
@tarheelgirl8 I also hate getting flowers and DH knows this. I think they are a waste of money and I can't even have them at home bc the cats eat them, so they have to stay at work. However, he has taken this as rarely sending me anything. I would love an edible arrangement or a potted flower/plant that won't die in a few days. But oh well.
Lol at the freebie hate! I get not wanting clutter, I don't either. So...I stopped accepting unwanted freebies. I just say no thanks and move on.
My friend's son has a doll and some guy made a comment once while they were out shopping about it and my friend went off on him. Served him right. Another friend overheard a preschooler boy's father tell him not to show weakness and cry in front of the girls during a gym class. My friend stayed quiet but when she told her DD that it was disgusting to lick the mat, a grandma nearby loudly said it wasn't as disgusting as telling your son not to cry. Srsly.
My UO is Frozen is the worst diDisn movie ever made by far. There are so many problems with it, it is not original, and it just sucks all around. (DD is wearing her Elsa costume and watching it right now)
@tarheelgirl8 I feel the same way! DH rarely brings me flowers, but if a local group is having a fundraiser he’ll buy them just to support the group. I wouldn’t mind so much if he would cut them and arrange them. I hate doing that.
@flockofmoosen3 I do like Frozen but I do concede that most of the songs are weird and seem half-assedly put together ( I don't know if I'm elated or gassy? But I'm somewhere in taht zone>-WTF made this an acceptable lyric??). I kind of like that the "true love" is sister love not love from random stranger at the end, because if it had been the dude with the reindeer after the whole spiel about not marrying the prince when you barely know him I would have lost my shit.
@moguippy I agree! Just cause I hate flowers doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love a thoughtful surprise. Come home with $75 flowers, I’m going to roll my eyes. Come home with a $3 milkshake from the drive thru....you won my heart!!
Oh my gosh, I agree with so many of these lol. @flockofmoosen3 I could never get into Frozen the way the whole world seemed to.
@tarheelgirl8 I don't really like getting flowers either. They just die so fast and tbh I would rather be gifted like, a pizza, or a new fuzzy blanket. (I'm an odd one)
For my UO, though.. I hate that most everything for boys is blue. I know that's how the whole baby thing goes, usually green, blue, or pink. But I would love some red and orange baby stuff and it's just impossible to find! Unless I am looking in the wrong places.
Omg @babyrojas2018 (wait, I don’t recognize you. Lol. Welcome!)
i LOVE blankets. I was in the hospital in August and was terribly cold for a lot of it and my H bought me a new blanket and I could have cried I was so grateful!
