Infertility

I'm on Clomid for 3mo, if unsuccessful doc will do IUI. On 2nd mo, but hubs will be gone during Ov.

First time poster. Very new to everything fertility.  I'm 36 and recently had all the tests done. I'm fine...just wasn't ovulating.  Doc said that I could try Clomid for 3 months and if it doesn't work, we can do artificial.  My husband is a pilot and his schedule changes at the drop of a hat.

He had to leave during my last ovulation window and just found out he'll be working next week.

I am taking Clomid 50mg day 3-7 of my period.  Today is the last day of this round and I am scheduled to go in for an ultra sound on Sunday.  Last month, I successfully ovulated only after using the estrodial inserts.

So, I am going through all of this trouble to make myself ovulate and my husband will not be in town when I actually do ovulate.

Should I just say screw it and ask to move forward with IUI?

We've been trying for over a year. Im not sure if we've been unsuccessful because I have never ovulated or if my husband's traveling for work had also had n impact.

Any thoughts?

  • OP here again, can't figure out how to edit my post.  I say IUI assuming that's the same thing as artificial?  I also, called and left a voicemail with the nurse. Just waiting for a call back.  NONE of my family or friends have had issues with fertility, so I have no one to talk to about this.

    Please reply!
  • IUI is artificial insemination. Even if you do IUI it's the same issue since you don't get to pick the date to trigger. He has to be there when you ovulate. They will monitor you until your about to ovulate then give you a trigger shot to force O. At the end of the day he will need to be there to give a sample that day for the IUI.

This is all true, unless you guys can freeze sperm and use frozen sperm in case he is out of town. It is kind of expensive for something you could do if he could just arrange his schedule a bit, but if he can't freezing his sperm and using frozen with an IUI is possible

Thank you for your reply. We made an appointment for him to have his sample frozen.  It’s around $150 to do that and then God knows how much to do the IUI.  He’s a private person and refuses to tell anyone at work why he needs to be home that week.  I’m not getting my hopes up for IUI (in case it doesn’t work out) so if we end up having to do it more than once, maybe he’ll try harder to dictate his schedule

Thank you so much for your reply, we’re going to have it frozen :)
  • Even better so you wont have to worry!

  • Well, insurance wouldn’t cover IVI this month. I went in yesterday and he saw one egg. So, I took the progesterone shot and did the BD last night and again this afternoon. Thankfully the hubs didn’t have to leave until later, so this cycle won’t be a complete wash.  We’ll do another cycle of clomid (pray DH is in town when I ovulate) and will do IVI if not successful. So, I guess that would be April.  I’m not getting my hopes up.

also, don’t use expired tests! I did and got false positives last cycle. Never again
