Nonstress Test

Yesterday I was at my 30wk appointment and the Dr said at 33wks I will need to start having NST 2x a week.  So far my pregnancy has been normal, I am 36 which make me "old" for my first pregnancy and that is the only reason for the test.  I can see maybe 1x a week if there was a problem but 2x I would have to work 1/2 a day each time due to the NST schedule.  Anyone else having this test done or is it normal for 2x a week?  I feel like I have 100 questions now for my DR.

Re: Nonstress Test

  •  Hi, welcome. This would be a great question for our "January symptoms" thread.

^^WSS...this would also be an excellent question for your doctor.
  • I have a weekly appt for a biophysical profile(ultrasound) and non stress test. They do these on the same day for me. I have these tests due to partial placental abruption/ low AFI/ abnormal placenta. You could definitely ask your doctor if it’s necessary to do twice weekly. Personally I wouldn’t want to do that unless necessary.

Also do you have to take half days or can you just take hours? NSTs last at least 20 minutes, depending on your baby. I’d hate to take a half day off of work for something that take less than 1 hour.

  • I have weekly BPPs and twice weekly NSTs. It definitely sucks, but I have GD and apparently that’s “normal procedure”. At least we’re all getting close to the end! NSTs are annoying but harmless. Good luck!
  • I think if your doctor wants them done you should do it. Bummer about work, but baby first.

I only have them 1x week and I'm 34 weeks with twins. And I feel like my OB is very cautious. I'm 35 so considered high risk in that regard.
But maybe it just varies by doctor?
