@profmcgonagall not to freak you out, but I started looking about a month ago and got overwhelmed because they were mostly booked up. But I’m in nyc. As for questions, I think just ask about rates and make sure you like their pictures from their portfolio. At least for maternity. Maybe for newborn ask about what you have to bring vs what they supply for props/wardrobe for baby.
@profmcgonagall For wks I've been trying to remember how early I booked for DS. I think it was within a month or two so I'm just going to reach out to our photographers soon to get ahead of the game. We used the same ones as we had for our wedding. We also just saw them for a mini session in nov, so they know we're pregnant... but I didn't mention newborn shots at the time. I'm hoping they're not booked cause they do a lot of weddings, so hopefully that time of year, they're decently free during the day on weekdays atleast. We didn't pick a day till DS was born also, so that tells me they don't book their schedule every single day.

@profmcgonagall with DD we just used the photographer that came to the hospital- it was a super quick session but we got 15 or so good photos.
We are doing her 1 year pictures tomorrow and I asked other moms for advice and looked through portfolios for a while before picking out photographer. Hoping that she will be available for DS's newborn shoot.
questions I would ask: 1) Price and what comes with that. Are there any photos included? Do you own the photos or do you need to order all prints through the photographer? Do they offer maternity and newborn packages? 2) Do they have a studio you have to go to or do they travel to you? Do you want the photos done in the hospital - having DD already I may want the photographer to come for the first time DD meets her baby brother. I may chose to do the shoot at home afterwards though so he's hospital bracelet isn't on. 3) What props do they have? What will you need to provide.
When you buy a crib in store like at BRU or BBB do they have them in stock like you take them home that day or do you have to order it and they ship it later? How long does it take to ship usually?

@krashke we used Wayfair and it was here in like 3 days. It’s great, plus it’s free shipping. I’m not sure about actual stores like those, though, so I’m not much help.

@krashke we bought DDs crib at BRU. I don't remember how long it took to receive it, but we paid something like $100 more to have them put it together for us. DH has said it was the best $100 we ever spent (he hates when I say Ikea and Wayfair). I remember the crib coming pretty quickly, like maybe a week at the most.
Also, on the topic of cribs- make sure you have plenty of time before bringing baby home before the crib mattress and bassinet mattress to air out. They are stinky. We ended up buying another bassinet with DD when our original plan didn't work out- and we couldn't use it due to the chemical smell. Our crib mattress wasn't so bad- but if you buy it from Amazon or have it shipped from another store it tends to come smellier.
@krashke We ordered our crib/dresser from BBB last week and the lady said it's going to take 4 weeks to come to the store and then we schedule delivery within the 2 weeks after that. She also said most cribs take 8 weeks! I don't think they carry any in stock, except the floor models that they sometimes put on clearance.
We ordered our crib for DD from BRU and it came broken! We ended up getting a discount on th next one but I was so thankful we ordered it far enough ahead of time!!

@PatientlyWaiting10 what do you mean you got a discount on the next one? They didn't replace it? I would have lost my mind if I had to buy another crib because that first arrived broken!
@jsl82 they made us return it and then place a new order. It was the same one but technically it was a new order.
