Re: 2nd trimester check in - Week of Jan 8

  • I hate hate HATE sick and coughing people at the office! Now even moreso that I'm pregnant. I think I caught some sort of bug. My throat is itchy and requires me to cough, but no soreness or phlegm. Really upset and I hope nothing comes from it.

I also think I have to fly for a work trip this month and I really don't want to. Anyone flown during second trimester? Was it okay?

  • Oh no! I hope you feel better soon!! Maybe drink some hot water with lemon and honey to help your throat??

I flew at the tail end of the first tri and was totally fine. If it’s a longer flight just make sure you’re getting up to walk around every hour or so. I’ll also be flying at the end of Feb and had an OB appt today so asked about it and she said as long as I’m feeling good and no complications arise with the pregnancy, there are typically no issues with flying into the early third tri.

Got to have a little peek at firecracker (with a due date of 7/4 how can that not be its nickname?!) at my OB appt today. Was not expecting to have a US so DH didn’t take off work to come with and he was a little bummed. It’s crazy how much the little one has grown in just three weeks! My OB referred me for a fetal echocardiogram since IVF babies can have a slight increase in heart defects so that’ll be around 20 weeks and we scheduled the anatomy scan for 2/5!!

  • My whole office was sick last week. It’s like stay home. We all don’t want what you have especially while being pregnant. So I worked from home the rest of the week. I haven’t flown anywhere but my sister did all the time. Yes just make sure to walk around and stretch out.
Patiently waiting another week or so for our next US. Can’t wait. Feels like time just slows I swear... I’ll have to ask about the heart test too. Haven’t heard much about that.
    Love the nickname!!! Cute!
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.
  • Aweeee Lil fire cracker that's adorable!!

@helloworld9 sorry ur not feeling well hoping it goes away! I'm home and my throat was feeling scratchy the other day so it's in the air!!
why I'm happy I'm not in my office environment!! I can't lie not like I've never gone i to work sick before.

Thrikked Monday is here and I have my dr appt tomorrow looking forward to seeing this nugget.  Getting over this weekend being the anniversary of my MC with the twins I just need to make sure my baby is doing ok!!  So shall put hopefully my good update up tomorrow!

FUN FACT!!! Looking at all the expectant mommies to be everyone is expecting a boy O wait scratch that ReeseAnne is having the first princesses so far :)

  • @mtpbadger That's good to know about flying. Honestly I don't really want to travel right now. Just the thought of all of that, plus not being in my "prime shape" makes me feel exhausted already! How exciting about the anatomy scan!

@Holls214 It's so crazy how few and far between the u/s are. After the anatomy scan I have no idea when my next would be.

@Hopeful_mom I've definitely gone to work sick before and I think it's a huge cultural problem. Like people expect you to be at work at all costs, even if it poses a health risk to everyone else. It's stupid and everyone needs to stop it! Really hopeful everything goes well with you tomorrow. Haha, if the ladies having girls in their bump speak up I will update the list! :)

Update from me, my husband's sister wanted to throw me a baby shower, which I said sure. At first I wanted a casual co-ed gift optional thing, but my MIL got really bug eyed about it and I guess looped in my SIL to throw a shower. Anyway, we live about a 4-5 hour drive apart and my SIL asked my husband if I would be amenable to having the shower in their city as opposed to where we live now. Mainly because more relatives of my husband's side lives there. Fwiw my family lives where we live. I'm leaning towards not having one if it means we need to drive over there, plus it would require a trip from my side of the family to attend too. Is it incredibly selfish to think this way? I feel like it's our baby and our shower. Or am I being ungrateful and should be thankful someone is throwing me a shower, regardless of what city it's in? For me I don't care about the gifts; we have saved and spent so much on IVF that frankly another $1k+ for baby strollers and gear is a drop in the metaphorical bucket.

I agree about the shower. Do what you want. I don’t care much about the gifts either. Could you do 2 small ones with one in each area? I Just want a small gathering with optional gifts of family and friends. We feel the same way about buying our own stuff too.
Yay for US tomorrow!! Let us know how it goes and.post a picture too if you wanna. :) We didn’t do a gender reveal as everyone knew we were transferring a boy. *edited

  • Even if we did two small ones, I don't want to travel for another. I'm just not thrilled about that idea. I have a feeling if we threw one locally, my SIL and MIL would come regardless. It's just that they want it for their own convenience, but it's not convenient for me. SIL made the argument that "more" relatives live in the city they are in, but when I sit down to think about it, it's about 50/50. My husband has relatives locally here too. Not to mention MY entire family lives here.

  • I would definitely have one locally then. People will travel if they want and send you a card or a gift if they don’t want to. :)

  • I agree with @holls214. if people don't want to travel, they'll send you a gift or a card and that's that.

When did you all tell your work you were preggers? I keep putting it off. I'm having a little dispute with my yearly review and was hoping it would have been resolved weeks ago and was waiting to tell my management until that was over and done with, just so there's no question that's not held over my head. I work at an outbase location, so I'm not face to face with them on a daily basis, just once a month. I'm worried that the next time I see them, which will be the end of January, I will have a noticeable bump and might get flack for not saying something sooner.
  • We had our fetal echocardiogram today (did anyone else have to do this? Apparently it's standard at our hospital for IVF babies) and everything looked good!!
I went to Once Upon a Child today and bought so many cute girly outfits! It was so fun!!

  • @reesaanne16 I haven’t had it done yet but my OB referred me for one! Just waiting for the referral to be processed to schedule it. Glad yours went smoothly!!!
  • @mtpbadger I told my work almost right away since my boss knew I was doing IVF. It sounds like maybe you should wait until the review is resolved though? I don’t know that is a tough choice...
glad your exam went well!! I haven’t had one yet but need to bring it up at my next week appt.

27 week this week! I guess next week will be the start of my third trimester! Time flies... I’m fully recovered from a cold and will be avoiding sick people from now on!

@ReesaAnne16 I had mine at 14 and 20 weeks. I had the first one done after the NT measurement came back slightly above the cutoff.  Besides downs and other chromosomal disorders, increased NT can be a sign of heart problems, I was told. They found a trivial tricuspid regurgitation during the first appointment so I had a followup appointment to see how severe the problem is. Turns out it wasn’t serious. So no more appointments after that.

I just spent 2 hours looking at baby clothes online. I wasn’t eager to shop baby clothes in case I jinx myself, but at 27 weeks I feel more confident about this pregnancy so now it’s time to shop!

@mtpbadger I told my boss after my 20-week anatomy scan as I had SCH and other scares (Elevated NT) earlier in the second trimester. Just didn’t feel like telling others with so much uncertainty with the pregnancy. After telling my boss, I told my work friend, and the HR director. I’m now telling the rest of my coworkers (or more like letting my belly do the talking).  My initial plan was to tell others sat 12-weeks but didn’t workout that way. My work is winding down anyway so that’s another reason why I wasn’t anxious to tell my boss right away.

@helloworld9 I agree about not caring for the gifts. Seriously, the baby stuff is peanuts compared to the amount of $ I’ve spent on IVF. You know what’s messed up? I’m covered under my husband’s insurance and starting 2018 his insurance covers 2 rounds of IVF!  We could have easily saved $20K+ if his plan covered IVF last year. Oh well. I should be happy that I don’t have to take advantage of the new benefit.  At least not now anyway.

  • @mtpbadger when I was pregnant with DS I told my work at 16 weeks. They had just fired a pregnant woman and had a pending lawsuit from it catching a lot of heat, so I know they wouldn't/couldn't fire me for it or any other reason really or they'd have even more heat. It was an awful environment though.. Ugh, memories. My advice is tell whenever you feel ready and comfortable doing so.
@helloworld9 I hope you're feeling better! Sick and pregnant is no fun :(

@ReesaAnne16 yay for a great scan! Always nice seeing the LO :)

@Hopeful_mom I wasn't planning on doing any reveal but when I told my BFF that our scan on Jan 30, she said she'd really like to do a small reveal party for us. So we'll be finding out Fri Feb 2 during the party she's throwing. Everything's a surprise so I have no clue how we're finding out!

AFM 17 weeks now! I've been feeling pretty good but getting RLP pretty bad when I turn over in bed overnight or get up to pee. I have to be really careful. We booked a quick getaway in early Feb so I'm excited to know the sex of baby before we leave!
  • @mtpbadger I told my boss around 18w, and I didn't really tell the rest of the coworkers unless they asked me directly haha. It doesn't seem easy to just bring up out of the blue, you know? Like by the way, I'm pregnant. It's kind of awkward for me. By now I definitely have a noticeable bump and just don't care who notices now haha.

@ReesaAnne16 I did not have a echo cardiogram. But I have read of many others who did!

@cashewchicken I completely agree with you! We paid like $25k out of pocket last year for all the meds, IVF, hysteroscopy, you name it. Another $1k for actual baby stuff? SIGN ME UP! Haha. Oh no that really sucks about the benefit this year! But at least now you are PREGNANT!! Even better!

@TravelingCouple I'm just constantly worried my sickness is impacting my baby right now, although Google says it shouldn't. I just wish sick people don't come into work! Come on.

  • @helloworld9 is it just a cold you have? As long as your temp doesn't spike too high and it's just cold symptoms you're having, baby is tucked away nice and safely in there :) But yeah I hate when people go out and hack their lungs up all over in public to share germs...
  • @helloworld9 I was so aggravated reading ur update as I've planned showers before, I mean who hasn't! And I had one friend that lived in osh kosh so we were doing it at a friends house that was an he for her and everyone else it was probably 2hrs instead of 3 or 4 but other then that....mommy comes first! Yes it's nice but not if it's going to cause u grief.  For me right now I'm just nervous to go anywhere to far with all the crazy drivers out there in this weather.  I skipped my extended family gathering as the ride was just too far for me this time and with the nausea it was just too much!!  You politely say thanks but no thanks! What does DH say, does he care since it's his side of the family?

@TravelingCouple yay for gender reveal that sounds awesome! Are u feeling one way or another? For me only a few know and they say boy....of course I differ and say girl  :D

@cashewchiken ugh it's like missing a number for winning the lotto dang benefits!! It sux ass!! But like we say we're pregnant and that's really the important thing...I keep reminding myself that with each new bill that comes in! 3rd already woohoo!!! So exciting!! Can't wait for that one myself!!!

@ReesaAnne16 yay for good updates and getting to buy pink u must've been in all ur glory!!

AFM: my funny happy US and update

My Lil baby is already sassing me with attitude just giving me the booty at my US yesterday  :D

The head is on the left if that helps y'all ;)
im 19weeks today and thrilled beyond! I won't lie I'm still scared everyday! Each test terrifies me!  I keep hoping by the viable week maybe things will change!  I am pregnant and trying to enjoy it.  Haven't bought a thing as many of u have already...
I have indigestion like I'm in my last trimester it's insane how awful it's been since day one!  dr Ia giving me something new to try! Hoping I can get that under wraps and maybe help the nausea lessen!!
I asked about he echo and I was told it happens at week 24, so I will be excited and nervous all at the same time!!

@mtpbadger do u think telling them ur pregnant might help u clear up the other issue faster?  I'm a freelancer and sis my transfer right after I completed my job.  I've been to sick to work we shall see how the rest of the pregnancy goes as I doubt I'll be able to tell ppl I'm pregnant and get hired.  It's not a fun situation for me.  Good luck! They have to be nice to pregnant woman in the staff world :)

@Holls214 are u having a shower? I first have to get over sharing my news and I'm still not there haha!!

  • @Hopeful_mom actually, trying to avoid all the pink was hard (which is why were not telling people IRL the gender... I've never liked pink), but I found some cute purple and teal outfits, lots of neutrals, an owl sleeper with mostly grey and little bit of pink, and a little deer onesie with CORAL pants (I can handle a tiny amount of pink as long as it's not baby bubblegum pink).

Are you team green??!! do you know the gender yet! I see you're having an echo too; be prepared for it to take a long while, ours was over an hour and she was more cooperative than she was before; I could see it taking a lot longer.

  • so last night, around 10pm my time (11pm my family's time) I started feeling anxious about getting dates nailed down for showers and started texting my family frantically. Good thing I did since there are already some conflicts arising.
EDD is May 15th, so I really didn't want the shower any later than April 15th (this is reasonable right?) mostly because I will have to travel 8-9 hours for one and don't want to end up in labor far from home. Also I'm going to need time to shop for good deals on the baby stuff we need but don't get at the shower right, plus time to set-up the crib, arrange the nursery, wash clothing... And what happens if the baby comes early!! ALSO my best friend is due with her second April 12th, so I'm afraid she wouldn't be able to attend if it were too late, which would make me OH so sad.
April1st is Easter, March 24 my sister has some stupid race she apparently can't miss out one... blah blah blah...
We finally settled on March 10 for the family one I have to travel for, and March 17th for the local one with friends.
I'll be 30w4d and 31w4d for those showers... is that too early? I'm not sure what is normal, but I don't want to have it too late.
    Thoughts on best timing??

  • @TravelingCouple I think it's just a cold. I keep touching my forehead to make sure I'm not running a fever, because I've read that's when things get kind of serious. Luckily I have my 24w appointment tomorrow morning so I can tell my OB about this.

@Hopeful_mom Luckily my husband isn't worried at all about offending his family. Not in a bad way but he doesn't let them dictate what we do. Cute u/s pic!!

  • @Hopeful_mom Aww your LO is so adorable! <3 I really don't have the first clue about this baby one way or the other. I was so convinced my DS was a girl, so clearly my intuition isn't worth much anyway! It's exciting to know I'll know in less than a month :)
@ReesaAnne16 I think that date sounds great. I def wouldn't push it any further than that, especially with the travel involved. With my DS, I had my shower in Oct even though I wasn't due until late Dec. We had to avoid all the holidays, so it was early. You will definitely have your bump to show off and I don't think you'll wish it was any later by that time. Especially when you're stopping to pee on the road trip there ;) It's exciting to have a date!

  • @Hopeful_mom awe love the ultrasound. Sorry about the indigestion.
We are also doing an earlier shower as my Mom is coming to visit in late February and I want her to be here.
Hoping we can plan a little get away to the beach in Oregon in the coming weeks since finally feeling a little more normal although the weather at the beaches here sucks in the winter.
@helloworld9 so sorry you are sick. I was miserable with a cold in the first trimester and couldn’t take any meds. It was horrible. Hope you have a good appointment.
Any of you ladies been getting backed up? TMI- I feel like bloated and sometimes can’t go for days when I used to go every day... tried milk of magnesia a couple times but it didn’t work. Any suggestions?

  • One more question haha. I’m in bed today so just bored not feeling well.
Anyone else have a Doppler? I use it every couple days and for the past couple weeks I think I can hear baby move around. I also think I can feel him a bit when I’m laying in bed on the back before going to sleep. I’m 18+ weeks now. Anyone else?

  • My OB told me my placenta is on top so I might not feel that much right away.  Not sure what side so that's another question for next time ;) I could've sworn I felt a lil tap the last few nights but only once or twice.  I feel it and then wait for another and nothing  :s my baby is a big tease right now  :D so I'm trying to stay patient.

@Holls214 ur feeling actually movement that's impressive I think I felt the first kick MAYBE 18w 4/5days.  It's usually at night leaning back with my feet up.  Dr said I would feelnit more on my side but not yet...

  • Yeah it’s only when I lay in bed on my back at night. Can’t wait to feel it more and conclusively say oh that’s the babes. Baby has been a tease with your butt shot. :) such a cute pic though.

  • Hi everyone! Nice to see some new people on our second tri board! There was just a few of us for a while! I'm 25+3 with my green bean (I call it a bean, and I don't know the gender!) It's definitely kicking more! I have my next appointment on the 19th and it will have been 7 weeks since I was last seen! As far as baby showers go I am having three actually. One in Canada where my family and friends are, one in California thrown by my husbands family and one at work which is really sweet of them! I didn't think I needed a lot of stuff and wanted to be a minimalist, however, the more I look at registries there is a lot of stuff we need! Plus I feel i need to give people something to register for...

@Holls214  I felt it at 16 weeks which is really early! I actually felt less movement around 18-20 weeks for some reason. I always feel it kick more when I'm sitting quiet at night. To me it feels like bubbles or popcorn popping. Someone (idk if it was ultrasound or who) said that when you walk and are active its comforting to the baby so it sleeps since its just sloshing around in there. When we are quiet its not being rocked so it wakes up. Idk but it does seem to hold true. I feel it more when im sitting or sleeping!

@helloworld9 I may be a little different when it comes to travel! I can't even count how many times I've flown since Ive been pregnant. I've been to Canada 3 times, (4 in feb for my shower), I flew to and from Australia at 16 and 18 weeks, and I just got back from Florida which is a 6 hour flight from Cali plus a bunch of short flights. I'm planning on flying up until 36 weeks as long as there are no complications obviously. I can travel with my husband for work for free so it's either go and get to see him, or stay home. I haven't had any problems flying other than twice I've gotten a little lightheaded and nauseated when the plane was sitting idle on the runway and there were some fumes. I also noticed I got hot and claustrophobic a lot easier and needed to turn on the air! Other than Ive been fine and my OB has no problem with it! I would try and get an aisle seat so if you have to throw up or pee you don't have to bother anyone! I say have fun and go wherever because it will be a bit harder when baby comes!
  • @meredithj123 wow I can't believe how good u r at flying? I'm scared to just take a long car ride.  The nausea has always been so bad I can't imagine being on a plane.  Kudos to u!!

i haven't even started a registry I'm still too nervous!

  • @ReesaAnne16 My placenta is also anterior, at least it was as of week 12. So I've been feeling very muted and subtle movements but not nearly as much as I did with my DS by now! I'm curious to see if the placenta has moved by our A/S at 20 weeks!
  • Hey ladies been a rough week for me. My aunt passed away Monday so thats the reason for the last post. 25+6 weeks and I can't believe how close I am getting to the 3rd trimester. As you all have probably felt dealing with infertility, I'm still scared and nervous that something will go wrong. Had an Ob appt on the 8th and ultrasound. He's weighing 2lbs and in the 70th percentile. I do have to go see a specialist for an ultrasound on the 29th due to fluid still being seen on his right kidney. Hoping it clears up on its own but being closely monitored.
I hope you all have a good weekend!
  • @meredithj123 You are a globe trotter! I think I'll do my one business trip and that's it. I'm a wimp right now. But my husband and I LOVE traveling. So I can't wait to start that up again.

@rel_1987 I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. And I hope that fluid clears up too!

  • Thank you @helloworld9 and @Hopeful_mom I truly appreciate it!!!
  • @rel_1987 I'm so sorry about your aunt. I understand the nagging thought of all the "what ifs" during pregnancy. I'm week 17 and I still find myself thinking about it and checking every time I wipe in the BR. Every appt does bring a little more peace though.

PS I had the same thing come up regarding kidney when I was pregnant with my DS. One of his kidneys were larger than the other in utero, and they've followed up with ultrasounds after birth.. There's been a slight change in a positive direction but the specialist never seems concerned, nor can he tell me any possible negative side effects from this at all. If it's only a slight enlargement, it doesn't seem to be a big deal at all! And they told me when DS was inside that a lot of times it resolves itself before birth so that may be the case for your baby :)
  • **lurking** I don't have a computer at home and wasn't able to post for the app on my tablet without major problems. But I just wanted to come give a big congrats to @mtpbadger and @Hopeful_mom I have been cheering for you ladies for so long and I was so excited to see that you both are well on you way to making it to the other side! I am just so happy for you both and all you other lovely ladies who are on the way to meeting their little ones!!
