Re: Weekly Questions 1/8

  • Does diclegis make you sleepy? I’m rethinking asking for it. I would be just as much miserable being sleepy all day as I am nauseous...

    ILY

not sure about the diclegis...I have a faint recollection of someone's mentioning this before but I can't be certain.

I wanted to ask if anyone else here is on Metformin and if so are you having any m/s? I'm Just curious!

  • I asked in the symptoms thread but I'm gonna ask here too. Has anyone found any relief for RLS? It's driving me crazy when I'm trying to fall asleep every night.

  • @lalala2004 my friend has to take it at night because it makes her a zombie. It’s a combo of unisom and b6 so it makes sense to be tired!
  • @ecwk I’m not on it now but I was after DS was born for about 6 months. I think my doctor called it intestinal distress, I called it fml where’s the bathroom lol! So if you’re on it and having digestive issues they might not be 100% pregnancy related.

  • @ecwk I was on it leading up to my BFP but the RE had me stop. Last time through the RE had me take it all the way through first tri. I had less appetite last time but never really got sick, and this time I haven’t really gotten sick yet either. So my experience is that it didn’t make a big difference.

I did get the runs from it before both BFPs, always first thing in the morning when I woke up. I would take it right at bedtime.

I guess I could just try taking it at night and see if that’s enough. I tend to be really sensitive to medicine that makes you sleepy. I only ever take half doses of Benadryl and NyQuil even at night because I feel hungover the next day if I don’t.

@lalala2004 it does but I take it at night and I’m not sleepy the next day. I just take it after I put DS to bed and then pass out. And I actually sleep so much better than before. I still feel tired during the day but no more than I did before. My friend who was on it also told me that that feeling wears off once you are used to taking it. I’m hoping that I start feeling better in the second trimester and can stop taking it.

ETA @calimom2524 I’m dealing with it too and got it last pregnancy too. My doctor when I asked last pregnancy was basically like sorry, try eating yogurt? Ummm...thanks.
  • Does diclegis make you sleepy? I’m rethinking asking for it. I would be just as much miserable being sleepy all day as I am nauseous...
I’ve been taking it at night this pregnancy because my prescription bottle does say can cause drowsiness and it seems to be working for me taking it that way.  But I took half. A dose in the morning with my last pregnancy and I didn’t find it made me anymore tired then I already felt .

Oh I had that the first time I was on I thought before I got KU with DS. Awful!! But this time hasn't been bad and in fact I was wondering if the Met can lessen m/s and nausea!! Lol

  • @lalala2004 we all just went on a road trip. I’m not sure what the dosage is but when she took two at night she was a zombie during the day. Like legit falling asleep anywhere lol. The rest of the trip she only took one at night and seemed normal. I’m taking straight b6 which is what my dr suggested, you could always try that too
  • ^^ my bottle says take 2, but my friend suggested to start with One and One is working so I haven’t upped the dose.

I’m eating ginger candy that has B6 in it and it doesn’t seem to be helping much. But I’m sure it be dosage is Diclegis is much higher.

  • Sorry no input on the meds, sorry they are affecting you!

*Embarrassing story ahead* What do you all wear when clothes don't fit but you haven't announced so don't want to wear maternity pants yet. I unbuttoned my pants in the car on the way to meet some friends and then forgot to button them again! I don't think it was visible but I only remembered when I stood up after hanging out and my pants slipped! I'm ok with yoga pants, but for most situations I would need something covering my backside. I feel like the bump/bloat is even more obvious in tunics. I thought winter would be a no-brainer for covering up, but I'm stuck!

Why not just wear the maternity pants? It's not like anyone can see the panel part, especially if you wear a loose shirt. Or dresses!

  • ^^^ I’m a fan of the Bella band too!
  • Bella band seemed to do jack for me fwiw.

maternity pants. If you wear a non mat top you’ll just look chubby versus pregnant ime. I can’t do regular pants anymore and wearing unfastened isn’t a good look.

    leggungs work too?

  • @ecwk I'm on Metformin, supposed to be 2000mg/day, but since I've been eating sporadically and in less amounts I have been considering 1500mg good enough.

7w2d and no m/s yet (knock on wood), but I also didn't experience any with my last unsuccessful pregnancy either. However I've been fairly nauseous off and on today, and I can't tell if it's from gas from my milk gravy and mozzarella stick fetish the past couple of days, or something pregnancy related. Trapped gas tends to make me sick to my stomach as it irritates all the nerves in there.

On the plus side, the slower digestion of the pregnancy and the faster digestion of the Metformin seems to have balanced each other out. I haven't been this regular in freaking years!
  • ^ i was just going to suggest the same thing! I did the hairtie trick for quite a while. It worked like a charm, but I had to make sure my shirts were a little longer to cover.

Anyone remember when we need to start sleeping on our sides? I feel like it was much later on in the pregnancy, but can't be sure.
  • ^^^ I’m sleeping on my stomach still. I can’t help it and it doesn’t feel awkward yet. I do kind of put a pillow on the side so I’m not directly on it, but can’t be sure how well that stays in place once I sleep.

I think they recommend no back sleeping after 20 weeks.
  • According to my OB, 'you will know' when it's time to change your sleeping position. I do remember stomach sleeping getting very uncomfortable quite early on with DS, but the bloat/constipation was way worse with him, so it could have been that. I didn't invest in a pregnancy pillow last time, and I think I will this time.

  • Sleeping position is a you will know thing. It starts getting uncomfortable.

I think we we are supposed to be on left specifically but I can’t sleep that way, right fo lyfe. Weirdly my left gave me terrible heartburn the one pregnancy

  • I've already had to stop laying on my stomach. It feels like I'm laying on a firm water balloon in there. I totally didn't feel my uterus this well last time. So between that and my ovarian cyst, belly laying is uncomfortable. Plus it's hard to do anyway with a cpap mask. :P

Fortunately my favorite pair of pants still fit with some room, and most of my shirts are still fine, since I buy them to fit my boobs already. But my bras are tighter than they used to be so I'm wearing sports bras all the time now. I was a 42 DDD before, I'd hate to see how I end up at my peak.
  • Yeah your legs will go numb is you sleep on your back when you're "not supposed to." Your body basically won't let you do it.

And @lalala2004, Diclegis doesn't make me extra sleepy. I still have a hard time sleeping at night. :(
  • The Bella band always seems to fold over, scrunch up and I was constantly pullin at it. With DS I did the hair tie trick at about 8 weeks, then started wearing maternity around 10/11, or just a lot of leggings and long tops/tunics. I’m almost at 7 weeks now and I feel like I only have a couple more weeks before I’ll start doing the same!

  • Just wear the maternity pants, you'll be so much more comfortable.  I'm not there yet, but I don't think it's long.

Oh and sleep, get yourself a magical pillow!  What are those things called?  My brain isn't working yet this morning.... Big long pillow so you can side sleep and put your leg on it later on when the weight your hips hurts.  Someone help me with words?
  • ^ a snoogle!

Thanks for the answers. I remember it being way later when I had an actual bump. I'm a back sleeper, but wake up nauseous sometimes if I stay on my back.
  • @7425cait Thank you!!!  I could not think of that for some reason.  Yes, snoogle!  Get a snoogle!  Made such a difference with lower back pain for me.
  • @calimom2524 I've found extra water and stretching to be help with the RLP. Pelvic rocks, cat/cow yoga pose, butterfly stretches, and light lunges with my hips pressed forward to stretch my hip flexors. Also, if I have to cough or sneeze, I try to bend over a little so my stomach has some room to give.

Another vote for belly band. Or, if yours is scrunching up, long tanks under your shirt work well too.
I slept on my back until pretty late last pregnancy; i think it was around 30+ weeks that i felt uncomfortable and rolled to my side more. Then I needed the full body pillow to keep me propped up all night.

Really long shirts. Lol.But I'm also going to echo, no one will notice you wearing maternity pants. Plus they make a WORLD of difference. I waited far too long the last time to start wearing them, but when I did, THEY WERE HEAVEN. lol

  • @jomama1618 mentioned the at Home Doppler in another thread, and I have one too but I’m wondering what’s the earliest you’ve ever gotten them to work at home if you have experience? I read online 8 weeks absolute earliest but more realistic is 10

  • @hardlyhannah I read 10 as well but I joked with DH that I'm going to give it a whirl tonight at 8 weeks
    He thinks I'm insane
I think the earliest I could reliably find it last pregnancy was about 12 weeks

  • Someone earlier mentioned the snoogle but did anyone else have a pregnancy pillow or body pillow they love? I’m tall so I’d love something that would go between my knees/calves but also not too big because we have a queen size bed. Lol, does this unicorn pillow exist?
  • I'm 7 weeks in Friday and already want to switch to maternity clothes. Old Navy has maternity pants with a side panel instead of a full panel, and I might start with those.

  • I wear leggings and loose shirts everyday.

Also when you can’t sleep on your back, you’ll know. With my first, DH used to wake me up when he saw me sleeping on my back. Made me stabby.
  • Talk to me about discharge. Had my pap today. Just had a GLOB of snot like discharge about the size of a nickle on my toilet paper. Email into OB. I really hate paps in pregnancy. Such bs lol.
  • @jsnakehole While I like a full panel for maternity jeans, gap had amazing side panel shorts when I was pregnant with DS during the summer (July baby). I was worried they wouldn’t have much stretch or give, but they were awesome. I’d definitely give the Old Navy jeans like that a try.
  • @Firemanswife11 could it have been from the lubricant they use on the torture device thing? Was there any blood mixed in? Good call emailing your doc, I hope they get back to you soon!
